Product Highlights
  • Waterproof and Fogproof
  • Angled Viewing
  • 20-60x Zoom Eyepiece
  • 42-58° Apparent Field of View

Bushnell's Legend Ultra HD Spotting Scope offers much of the abilities of the super-premium Elite scope at a price most enthusiasts can afford.  The most important of these shared attributes is the objective element of extra-low (ED) dispersion glass, which goes a long way towards improving rendering subtle detail at higher magnifications and in high contrast viewing situations.  The Legend Ultra HD has Bushnell's water and oil repelling Rainguard HD external coating, which won't even allow your breath to put fog on the lens.

As the angled viewing version of the 80mm Legend Ultra HD scope, this offers the most comfortable experience when sharing the scope amongst a group, and is generally regarded as being less tiring to use for a long observing session.  An angled scope is ideally suited to digiscoping, and Bushnell offers a great universal digiscoping adapter, but does require more experience to quickly locate subjects.

Prime ED extra-low dispersion glass objective element helps optimize edge contrast & color rendition

After extensive research, I believe that for the price, this scope is a steal. I plan on using this scope at the range and for nature watching. The scope's optics itself earns five stars. From 20x to 60x there is only a slight reduction in the brightness. The eye relief is very comfortable and the large exit pupil makes it easy to view for extended periods. You don't have to look hard to get the "full view" in the eyepiece. Most of the time I just position my eyes close to the viewfinder and the whole view pops out. The fine and coarse focus allows for fast and and smooth focusing with minimal vibration to the scope at high magnification when fine focusing. As an example, I can actually fill the viewfinder with a pond turtle's head at full mag. (the turtle is on the other side of the pond at 25 yards) I can even discern and observe insects on top of grass leaves from the same distance). I agree with the other review that the case is not the sturdiest for this scope. (two stars for the case) I'm actually shopping around for a hard case as a replacement. The strap anchors on the original case seem unable to support the weight of the scope. So much so that I use all the straps (carry and sling together) to carry the scope. The zippers don't completely engage in a few spots as well. Most of the time I don't even use the straps and just carry the whole thing like a football. The tripod ring that allows you to rotate the scope on the tripod seems a bit on the weak side as well. It's fine if the scope is used with the eyepiece at vertical. It seems to struggle with the mass of the scope though if you turn the scope 90 degrees of vertical for side viewing.
It all boils down to your budget. I'm sure the higher end scopes that costs four times as much will give a "slightly better view" and perhaps a better case and sturdier side viewing; but realistically, if I accidentally drop this scope in the field compared to the higher end models, I (my walled included) won't be quite as devastated. It's a matter of me owning the scope instead of the scope owning me. Besides, when out viewing, I'd rather worry about what to view than the scope I'm viewing with...

The scope image is clear at all magnifications and has great color reproduction; however, the case is terrible. I had only used the scope a couple of times before the shoulder strap rivets broke and the case hit the ground (with the scope inside). Upon immediate inspection, the scope seemed undamaged, but when I tried to adjust the zoom eyepiece, it wobbled around. I found that the body of the scope was broken right below the eyepiece. The case has very little padding around the ends. This means that the eyepiece and objective are not well protected. Bushnell sent me a shipping label so that it could be repaired. I requested a new scope since the damage was their fault. Upon receiveing the "new" scope, the first thing I noticed was the lack of padding in the shipping box such that the scope was only protected by the improperly-designed case. The new case had a faulty zipper. And although I asked for a new replacement product, it appears that the one I sent in was repaired and sent back. Since the scope appears to function properly, my primary problem with it is that whoever put it back together did not glue the rubber covering all the way back together and managed to get a few particles on the inside of the eyepiece lens that are clearly visible when looking through the scope. I expected much better from Bushnell and was thoroughly disappointed. Bushnell's lack of attention to detail is undermining an otherwise great product (i.e. the scope). If I had to write a review on the scope itself, it would have received 5 stars.

Very clear spotting scope up to 45x 50x after that it gets a little blurred. If I were to carry it on a hunting trip it would be a little bulky but for bird watching it would be great.

This is a great spotting scope. After reading other reviews I purchased the Bushnell Legand Ultra HD scope for both price and functionality.
This scope is clear and is easy to focas. The size is larger than I expected but I can live with that. The price was great.

Comments about Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 3.1"/80mm Spotting Scope Kit:

After my first out of state hunting trip it was clear that I needed a spotting scope. I typically over research products before buying. THis was no exception So I looked at the other brands like Vortex I also really like the Nikon Fieldscope ED and the problem was that I didn,t want to spend that kind of money. I read many reviews and spent some time looking through scopes including a friend of mine Swarovski. Let me tell even with my eyes I could not justify spending the twice the money or more for a scope that at best was equal to My Bushnell.
It has ED glass which does make a difference (yes I was skeptical)I will be using it at the range and have looked at road signs at approx 700 yds. This is a great scope for the money you really can't go wrong. The only draw back is the Zoom it is really tight and will move on you if you do not have a firm hold before zooming and it does not have a sighting tube.
All in all a great scope for a great price and would not hesitate to purchase again

I use this for wildlife spotting in southwest Florida and it is everything I wanted in a scope! I spent considerable time in researching this product before making the purchase and it came highly recommended by other owners>

Comments about Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 3.1"/80mm Spotting Scope Kit:

We are very satisfied with this spotting scope; the reach at 60X zoom; the eye piece viewing diameter at all magnifications and the bright optics that come with the the 80mm glass make using this scope a real pleasure to use. Viewing a full moon at 60x and with this optics is almost blinding! The built in front extendable shroud is a nice touch. This performance along with a very reasonable cost was the perfect combination for us.

We have experience with a slightly older Nikon scope with 20-60X zoom and 60mm optics as well the Bushnell Ultra HD 15-45x60 Spotting Scope. The Legend Ultra 80mm is the hands down winner.

The angled eye piece works for our family members. We do no adjusting to the tripod height for family members ranging in height from 5ft tall to 5ft 10in tall.

You will want to have a good sturdy tripod when using the scope. The course adjust is a little stiff but works well. The fine adjust is very smooth. The large glass (80mm) results in a larger and heavier spotting scope but not unreasonable in size... the size is well worth the resulting performance.
We have not yet tried the scope with a monopod, I suspect the tripod will be more comfortable for viewing.

We use the scope primarily for; astronomy, bird & animal watching.

I compared this side by side at a local "Scope City" and the Bushnell looked as good as both the Pentex and Nikon which both cost almost 3 x as much! The big names were nicer but way out of my price range. I think at [$] I got a great scope! I even bought the smaller 12-36X50 to carry on hikes. Great glass on these Legends!
