The 8x42 Diamondback Binocular from Vortex excels in the field thanks to its exceptionally wide 8 degree viewing angle and 18mm eye relief, making this handheld optic ideal for hunting and birding. It also offers modern advantages such as textured rubber armor, soft helicoid eyecups, and argon gas purging.  The Diamondback series features sculpted contours that fit easily in-hand. This all-purpose binocular is for those who prefer higher magnification for distant objects. Additionally, the 5 foot minimum focus distance enables close-up observation of butterflies and other natural beauties within your field of view.

Phase corrected roof prisms render bright images that are color-faithful and rich in detail.
Fully multicoated optics transmit contrast-rich images with minimal glare and internal reflection.
An 8 degree viewing angle (64 degree apparent viewing) offers a wide field of view that allows you to maintain situational awareness despite the level of magnification.
Argon purged and o-ring sealed housing delivers superior waterproof and fogproof protection from the elements.
Close focuses to under 5 feet, excellent for birding and other nature observations.
Twist-up multi-position rubber eyecups provide enhanced comfort, especially for eyeglass wearers.
Ridged rubber armoring results in superior grip even in wet conditions.

Comments about Vortex 8x42 Diamondback Binocular:

We plan to use these binoculars for locating birds and other wildlife. I especially like the large eyepiece glasses since my wife and I both weareyeglasses. These binoculars have the largest eyepiece glass of any brand Ihave seen on the market. This gives you a maximum field of view when youbring them up to locate a critter in cover or heavy vegetation. I also think these binoculars are slightly more compact than other 8 X 42s I'velooked at and although they might be a little heavier than comparable brands, this tells me there is probably more glass inside and you are probably gettinga better quality product.

Comments about Vortex 8x42 Diamondback Binocular:

I liked that the front and back covers are attached and easy to take off quickly. Easy to see, very clear. Only negative is that they are heavy. I think the Nikons are a few ounces less.
But for the price, I think these are very good binos.

What can i say except buy these.I looked for a long time and compared a lot binoculars around this price rang and nothing compared. only if you stepped up to a higher end 700.00$$ plus binocular and even then not much difference to warrant spending the extra money. Very bright and have a very good field of view, not to mention the unbeatable warranty.

Excellent binoculars for the price. The large field of view and the crisp sharp images are great for birding and the 4.5 ft minimum focus distance is very useful for identifying plants on nature hikes. Impressive for stargazing, too - star images were sharp and the 8 degree field of view offers a 'wow factor' I don't get with my 10X70 binocs.

Comments about Vortex 8x42 Diamondback Binocular:

Wow! Don't let the low price fool you - these binoculars should be at least in the $500+ price range. But they aren't because they don't have a big brand name markup like Leupold, Nikon, Steiner, Leica, etc... This is small company in the US that prides in workmanship and quality optics. They offer "best industry warranty" lifetime no questions asked on their optics too.

Diamondbacks are fully multi-coated for the best light transmission, these 8x42s were bought for astronomy. they have a wide view 8 deg and great exit pupils 5+. These 8x42s are probably the best binos in the under $500 category and I and researched almost every 8x42s under $600.

Compared to my old binos - Brunton Lite-tech 10x32 the Vortex is far superior in clarity, and light gathering during star gazing under light polluted skies. Also, I tried one of those cheapy Tasco 8x21s and the optics were laughable too...

This is my first bino from Vortex but I own a Vortex Strikefire red sight and a Diamondback rimfire scope also. Its hard not to buy a Vortex because of the price to quality ratio - once you know how good they're optics are. Give it a try and see for yourself.

Comments about Vortex 8x42 Diamondback Binocular:

I purchased this binocular for birding after getting fed-up with the fogging and subpar image quality of the cheap compact one I started out with. As expected, the image quality and brightness are much better, and I find that the increased weight helps to steady my hands a bit. I was pleasantly surprised by the color, which looked olive drab online but is more of a forest green in real life.

The center focus is a bit stiffer than I would like, but I only notice it when I'm focusing on something very close (which isn't really necessary most of the time anyway). I did notice some chromatic abberation when viewing an egret in bright sunlight, and I felt some mild neck pain after wearing the binocular for about an hour. On subsequent outings, I have found it more comfortable to simply carry it in one hand if it's being used frequently.

Overall, I am quite satisfied with the purchase and am eager to get back into the field!

Comments about Vortex 8x42 Diamondback Binocular:

As an avid birder, I was looking to upgrade my old binoculars. These were recommended by a friend, and they are amazing. The clarity is excellent and makes my bird searching/watching experience something to really look forward to. I haven't found a single negative about them, except perhaps for the weight--they are a bit on the heavy side. But the quality of the product makes me quickly forget about that. You won't regret buying these, and they are a great alternative to the high-end products in the 8x42 category.

The close focus distance is about 5 ft, not 4.5 ft as advertised but is still pretty good in its class. It renders natural color and sharp image. We use it in the concert hall the first day we got it. Sitting far back, we could see the fingers of the pianoist very clearly. After holding the bino for a while, however, my arms were sore. I guess every ounce matters. I am thinking switching to its mini version 8x32, which only weighs 520 grams instead of 715 grams, but not sure if the 8x32 is as good.

Comments about Vortex 8x42 Diamondback Binocular:

This is the first full size binoculars we purchased. We have compact Steiners, and Minoltas which have both been reasonable for the limited amount of viewing we have previously done. They are 10x26 and 8x32 respectively. There is no comparison the diamondbacks. The change was similar to viewing a standard 19in TV to a high end 55in HDTV. Binoculars are all about the glass, and Vortex has obviously made a statement by offering this quality product at this price level. Compared to a friend's Leica's they are pretty close. They don't have absolute clarity/separation out to the edge and aren't quite as bright at dusk, but they are also 1900 dollars cheaper! I don't view birds out at the edge of the viewing range anyway, and I'm rarely out at dusk since I don't hunt. Since the Vortex does exactly what I want it to do, I can spend the 1900 difference on state park fees for years and actually use these. My only complaint is that I didn't step up to the Vipers ( still 1500 cheaper than Leica). You have to consider these binos in the sub 500 dollar range (not sub 300 range).
