Purchased this to replace the costly Canned air. I also just purchased a new Gaming PC and want to keep the Dust filters clean in our Dust factory apartment. It is VERY powerful and LOUD. I also had to drill a hole in the other attachment nozzles to keep them from jettisoning off under the extreme pressure (as only the one attachment has a pre drilled hole for the locking mechanism.) Don't blow it directly on any computer components ie. CPU or RAM, as it may damage them. It does come with an air filter that can be cleaned out in the bottom of the duster unit. Also it does tend to get HOT rather quickly (1-2 mins is long enough to get the job done), but intermittent use is fine. I would recommend the DataVac Electric Duster to anyone wanting to replace those costly and condensation producing canned air products. Very useful product.

Bought this item for home use.... hobby, camera and to clean out the small fuel line on our home's propane heater. Thought it would be a better alternative to the "canned air" product. It is from the standpoint of not having to buy additional cans as well as minimizing impact/green concerns. However the bursts of air are extremely forceful and since there is no trigger adjustment to lessen that burst it is too powerful for certain uses. It's as loud as an old vacuum cleaner, ( the manufacturer is an old vacuum manufacturer!)
It would be nice if a thin tube was included to get into tighter spaces, as you would find on the canned air unit.
Overall it's okay; there are plenty of other uses I am sure.

This is a well built and solid unit. I use mine to blow the dust from old slides before scanning them to a digital file as well as cleaning my camera equipment. It is also great for removing dust from glass and photos before assembling them in a fame--especially if it is a large print. It is lightweight and easy to handle.

Comments about METRO DataVac DataVac Electric Duster Model ED500:
I set up the unit in my hobby room to clean dust from my camera gear and collectibles. No complaints, works as advertised. This unit will not give you a narrow stream of air like using the narrow tube provided with most compressed cans of air. However, for 90% of my cleaning applications its ideal.

I use this to clean off the exterior of most of my camera equipment. I also use this duster to clean off my computer equipment, especially my keyboard, which is always combursome to remove bits and pieces of stuff it gathers over time.

Comments about METRO DataVac DataVac Electric Duster Model ED500:
Anyone who uses canned air should consider this product. It was a shock the first time I turned it on because it is so powerful. It works well for keyboards and computers. I also use it to blow dust out of the stereo and TV and places where it is difficult to dust. It is powerful enough to get dust off my telescope lenses and eyepieces with no problem.
One limitation may be that it is too powerful for some applications such as inside DSLR cameras or anything delicate (using the wider attachments at a distance helps). Since it has only one speed, I wonder if some kind of variac could be put in-line to control air flow.
As others have mentioned, it does not blow cold air or moist air which can cause harmful condensation or worse especially on lenses or telescope mirrors. Since it blows RT or warmer air (somewhat filtered), I also find it useful for drying. It came in handy when I accidentally dropped my cell phone in water.
To parallel its power, it is also solidly made and comes with a usefully long power cord.
I highly recommend it.

When you've wipe something with a microfiber cloth and brush off any remaining dust, you still see them in a macro shot and spend countless time cloning them in PhotoShop. This product works best for the job. Saves me a lot of time in post editing.
I've used this also with my desktops and notebooks. They're really powerful to blow that dust away, including tight spots.
And for some that have doubted this product, I've used it also to clean my D600 sensors. Just make sure you use the micro tube that comes with it as it reduces the output by I think about a half. So far after about 1,000 clicks, it still works well...minus the dust specks.

I bought this item for my workshop. It replaced a small 3 gallon air compressor. I was suprised how powerful this duster is. About the only negative I found is the power switch. You can't really tell it from on or off when pluggin it in.

I actually use the DataVac to clean RC helicopter parts clean, it works great, very powerful and blows the canned air duster competition away (no pun intended)! No more wasted money on disposable canned air dusters!

I have found this useful for cleaning vacuum bags, electrical equipment, and computer. Have not tried it with cleaning SLR, but suspect you need to keep it far back because it may be too strong for that. However, some people have commented that this has too strong a force and I have found that not to be the case for the uses I have tried (above)... it could be a little stronger.... but remember the nozzle you select can control the force too!

I dragged my feet while looking at the canned air for my office. People were asking for it, and I HATE buying it. About a decade ago, there was a system of rechargeable cans. I'm sure that was bought and ditched by the makers of those wasteful cans we are forced to buy.
NO LONGER! As long as I have an electrical outlet, I will be able to clean in the same manner as with those horrible cans.
This thing is built to last, too. With the all-metal construction, I could defend myself in a dark alley with confidence!

Comments about METRO DataVac DataVac Electric Duster Model ED500:
I'm feeling this incredible power being generated in my one hand as I blow out the dust from my PC. I'm able to blow out dust from my keyboard that the canned air just wasn't powerful enough to hit. In general, I find myself using the cone tip most of the time since it generates the most pressure at the end. The wider tips are good for blowing dust from the refridgerator coils while the smaller tips are great for detailing, especially the long tube and brush with the bendable tip. More pressure comes out of the seams in this unit the smaller we go with the tips. The foam air filter at the bottom also tends to collect a lot of dust after blowing it all over the place, so it has to be cleaned often. I hope that filter lasts a while because I find that it's the part that's taking the most abuse; it would have been nice to get more than one air filter in the package. In general, I'm very happy with my purchase - I'm using it to keep all of my electronics clean. I can blow out dust from the gas heater that I couldn't reach before. From the looks of the manufacturer website and the simplicity of operation, it's also very user serviceable in case any part breaks, but this duster is tough. I'm not sure if anything will ever break down on it with proper care.

We bought the DataVac electric duster for our camera gear and keeping the computer keyboards clear.
We leave aboard a boat and the secondary realy big benefit is blowing up the inflatable fenders and even our two inflatable dinghys. So now we don't have to buy a larger shop vac to do the same job.
