The Sony SHL32W LCD Hood is designed to fit on the 3.2" LCD panel of most prosumer camcorders. The hood shields the LCD panel from bright overhead lights. The folding design allows the hood to remain on the camcorder even when the camera is placed in a camera bag.

This unit is actually more efficient than I expected. Having owned one of the elastic band type LCD glare guards, I had a preconceived idea of how this Sony model would work; however, I was pleasantly surprised. The hard plastic housing that slides onto the LCD is specifically made for the Sony 3.2" LCDs, so the fit is perfect. The vinyl coated (I assume) card stock flaps seem to be large enough to offer protection in most circumstances and the loop & hook fasteners are adequate. Although I believe the physical construction materials could be better, this unit is par with other similar products, but being designed for Sony makes it a good choice IF you have a Sony. I'm don't know if it would work with other manufacture's LCDs or not.
My largest complaint is the cost. It's twice the price of an 'elastic band' model, so you'll have to determine if the better fit and faster time to put the unit on and off is worth the extra $. BTW; by folding the LCD onto the camera with the LCD screen facing up (rather than the normal way with the LCD screen down) you "can" leave the unit on the camera at all times. So, I suppose depending upon your personal preferences, that's another plus.

I opened up the package excited to see the hood on my camera, but was disappointed at the construction and quality of the hood. The sides are secures with velcro that has less stick than the cord wraps I have used for years. The Hood is no more than plasticized stiff card stock. Not worth the money paid, but it has a nice Sony logo on the side. Save the money, and make your own with some gaffers tape and a bit of mat board.

Comments about Sony SHL-32W LCD Hood:
Have not been able to use this product yet, but should work as needed. Expected product to be a metal housing for the price, but is actually a vinyl fold-down hood which stays open with velcro. Didn't really need this product, only purchased so that it would be available if needed.

Comments about Sony SHL-32W LCD Hood:
Really helps shade the viewfinder. Must open it carefully and it adds about a minute to your set-up, but, worth it in bright daylight conditions. It seemed a little flimsy at first, but, it works well. Could have been a little less costly. We only use it when needed, so that isn't every time you use the camera. Light weight, but, so far the students haven't broken it after two semesters. We have 4 of them on the student cameras and I bought this one for me.

Comments about Sony SHL-32W LCD Hood:
This is a must have piece of optional equipment. It works brilliantly shielding my HDR-FX1000 camcorder's LCD (with boosted settings) for daytime soccer matches. It is easy to install and remove, as well.
What a freeing relief to ditch the electronic viewfinder in order to follow sports motion more fluidly on my SONY VCT-80AV tripod via the camcorder's high resolution LCD panel!

I purchased this for my Sony FX 1000. This unit fits nicely over the screen. When finished using, it folds down very neatly and fits on the back of the screen for storage. It does a great job.

Comments about Sony SHL-32W LCD Hood:
I bought this for my Sony NX5U, and it fits perfect. The shade can be left on when you close the LCD if it is facing up, and folds flat on top. Only gripe is that the sides of the shade have velcro tabs that are a little tricky to line up after unfolding them.
Overall, very pleased to be able to see the LCD better and save battery by keeping the screen backlight off.

Comments about Sony SHL-32W LCD Hood:
A very clever design by Sony!
It provide execellent shading on my NX5U. Compact, light and easy to use. I like it most because it stays folded on the LCD screen when not in use. Very convenient for storage with the camera.
Unlike some cheaper LCD shade, eg Hoodman, this shade stays in position once it is mounted on the LCD monitor.
A must have gadget if you shoot outdoor in windy and bright sunshine like Colorado.

I have one for each of my FX1000's. I can't imagine shooting outside without them. They are compact, lite, and install in seconds. Far easier to use than my petrol hood I had for my beloeved FX1's. If you own a fx100, AX2000, Z5U, or NX5U you should get one of these.

Comments about Sony SHL-32W LCD Hood:
I purchased this for my Sony Z5U to keep the sun and/or existing lights from affecting the image on the monitor while shooting. It easily slips on and it's sturdy. I've had other hoods for other cameras, but a lot of them were a tad flimsy, kept on the monitor with an elastic band. They worked, too, but you had to adjust it all the time. This one goes on, and that's it. It won't move from its position. I'd recommend this particular hood over any competitor hood.
