Product Highlights
  • Ideal Solution for Book Scanning
  • High Speed Scans
  • High Quality Output
  • One-Touch Button Control Panel
  • Book Edge Elimination
  • Scan Management Software

The Plustek OpticBook A300 is a large-format scanner that is ideal for scanning book pages and other large documents. It is equipped with function buttons designed to make the scanning experience more convenient and efficient. The A300 creates crisp, sharp images of the pages which can then be converted into other formats using the included software bundle.

Users no longer have to avoid damaging book bindings by pressing it flat or cutting pages in order to achieve a clean scan edge. The OpticBook scans thick books without unbinding or dismantling them, making it an ideal scanning tool for students, libraries, schools, graphic designers and any other work groups in need of scanning large original documents.

Book and Large Format Scanning
The OpticBook A300 can scan books, and A3-sized documents, up to 12 x 17".
High Quality, High Speed
This scanner can scan an A3-sized page in just 2.4 seconds at 300dpi.
Scan Text Close to Book Spine
The OpticBook is designed with a perfect 2mm book-edge design, so that pages do not have to be separated from their bindings and images appear with a crisp, sharp edge.
One-Touch Controls
The buttons on scanner's panel perform Book Pavilion, Preview, Color Scan, Grayscale Scan and Text Scan functions. The settings for each button on the scanner's panel are configured through Book Pavilion. Book Pavilion offers you quick access to the most frequently-used scanning functions. They are especially useful when you need to repeatedly scan with the same settings and send images to the same destination.
Productivity Software
With the included Plustek Book Pavilion software, scans preview in less than 2 seconds and images can be saved into a variety of formats such as BMP, JPG or TIFF. This software will automatically rotate page images as consecutive pages are scanned, maintaining book layout and page sequence. The OpticBook A300 also comes with highly effective image processing and document management software including PDF conversion and highly accurate OCR (Optical Character Recognition).

Comments about Plustek A300 OpticBook Large Format and Book Scanner:

Pros: This scanner, like the "Opticbook 3600 Plus" I owned before it, functioned for 13 months, just long enough for the one-year warranty to expire. Then the CIS module (i.e., the light source) failed.Cons: I had heard Plustek's customer service is poor and my personal experience confirmed this. First, a Plustek representative attempted to charge me $400 to replace the scanner light source, a component that costs less than $200. When I requested the name of the third-party manufacturer of the light source so that I could order it directly, the Plustek representative refused to share this information and rebuffed me. When I asked to speak with a supervisor, I was informed that the Plustek General Manager was too busy to speak with me. So I threw the Plustek OpticBook A300 in the garbage and opted for a smarter, affordable book scanning solution. Other Thoughts: I advise everyone reading this review not to make my mistake: do not waste your time or money on this or other overpriced, unreliable Plustek scanners. I have since assembled a DIY book scanner based on Daniel Reetz's Open Hardware specifications. The DIY book scanner far, far outperforms the Plustek Opticbook A300 and does so for a small fraction of A300's price. Google it!

Comments about Plustek A300 OpticBook Large Format and Book Scanner:

Very good to scan books and large documents. Very fast, 2-3 seconds for a full A3 page.

Unfortunately works only under Windows, but works fine with VirtualBox on a Mac.

Comments about Plustek A300 OpticBook Large Format and Book Scanner:

A300 is an excellent scanner for ebooks. I have an ebook reader and want my physical books on them.
I use my A300 and it is fast and worth the money.
If you use the scanner with the bundled book pavilion the black edges in the middle of the book just disappear.
