The Zacuto Mini Baseplate with 12" Rods is a baseplate for smaller cameras like DSLRs, the Sony FS100 and FS700, the Blackmagic Camera, midsized flat bottom cameras like the Panasonic HPX170 and HVX200.

This baseplate features 1/4" and 3/8" camera mount screws and tripod mount threads and has a removable locking pin. It's adjustable along the included 12" rods at the pull of a spring loaded lever and also vertically for alignment with matte boxes and follow focuses. (In use with the FS100, this baseplate requires a Zacuto Z-Spacer or RC4 Quick Release Adapter for alignment to a matte box.)

Have had one of these for a few years now and it's saved my life on quite a few occasions ....... Tough, adjustable and lightweight. Used it on many different cameras, DSLR, panasonic HVX, HPX, BMCC and others .......
Actually I'm getting a second one.

Comments about Zacuto Mini Baseplate with 12" Rods:

Used with various video and DSLR cameras for mounting Mattebox and follow focus. Well built; sturdy. Some of the adjustments are awkward to access. Form is a little bulky for storage in camera bag.

Comments about Zacuto Mini Baseplate with 12" Rods:

I have had this since June 2010 and I am happier and happier with it the more I use it and compare it to other rigs. I shoot video with a Canon 7D, and it is a great baseplate for that camera.

Quick note: I use this with the baseplate from the Zacuto Z-Finder Pro, usually without the Finder, and the rubber on that plate and the three holes keep the whole rig from spinning on the rails.

My favorite part of this baseplate is the adjustable riser. If you loosen the fore and aft allen screws, you can raise the plate an inch. When shooting with a matte box, this gives you the ability to get the exact height you need to center the lens in the box.

And the rods are well-made and threaded. Beautiful! It is a very simple, elegant, and useful design.

      T3i/T2i buyer beware

Comments about Zacuto Mini Baseplate with 12" Rods:

I bought this baseplate because is it touted as "universal" -- thinking I had the baseplate part of my kit covered for the next few years. But when I attached my T3i I discovered that the battery compartment is inaccessible. I searched for solutions online and one buyer recommended purchasing the T3i battery grip because the battery slot is located on the side rather than underneath. So I shelled out another $70+ for the off brand grip (Zeikos) and the battery issue was solved. But now my T3i is nearly two inches taller so connecting a matte box or follow focus is always challenging or doesn't work at all.

I know this is one of the many pitfalls of having a cheaper, smaller bodied Canon DLSR. If I could go back in time I'd buy the 60D so I wouldn't have had this issue -- it's only $200 more than the T3i and having spent $70 on the grip and another $20 on another battery was rather annoying.

This baseplate is well built, highly adjustable and well priced for Zacuto gear. I'm sure I'll really love it when I get my Mark III....someday.

Comments about Zacuto Mini Baseplate with 12" Rods:

I've gone through a few of the lower end baseplates, brands which will remain unnamed, and have lost money by them either breaking or me reselling them due to poor build standards that I did not feel comfortable using. You can tell a lot of thought went into this baseplate.I am able to quickly swap it off my tripod and create a shoulder rig out of it by adding additional parts. If you are about to get this I'd also recommend the RC394 quick release from Manfrotto.[$] is a lot of money to spend on a baseplate, but as with most other gear you get what you pay for. This baseplate is tough and looks like it was machined with tight standards. A lot of the knock offs don't have precision, which I think is important. I am very happy with this purchase!

Comments about Zacuto Mini Baseplate with 12" Rods:

I had researched out similar products and found this Zacuto Mini Baseplate perfect for my needs. Although I COULD attach an ARRI mattebox to a Sony EX1 without a set of rods, it was barely adequate when using the camera hand held or when moving to tripods or monopods. The quality of the mini baseplate is 5-stars and I actually was a bit surprised that the price was so reasonable, given the other somewhat pricey Zacuto products. Actually, I have never regretted purchasing any of this brand of product; the quality and the design features are superb! One more thing: Since the mini baseplate is adjustable, I can also use it with my Canon 5Dii, using the same ARRI mattebox.

Comments about Zacuto Mini Baseplate with 12" Rods:

I use this with the Panasonic AF100, the 35-100mm f/2.0 ED Zuiko Digital Zoom Lens By Olympus, and the 1/4 20" Lens Support with 2.5" 15mm Lightweight Rods (Zacuto). Here's a TIP - go to the hardware store and get a 1 1/2" screw (it's got to have a flat head), a large washer, and a wingnut. This baseplate will connect to your tripod's baseplate just fine. But with a heavy lens, you're going to need at least one more screw for extra support. Otherwise, the weight of the camera/lens could damage your tripod's baseplate.

Expensive but well built I have no fear this baseplate will survive many cameras. Higly adjustable (up and down + side to side). The thumbscrews really locks the rods, nothing moves.
