A great bang-for-the-buck porro prism binocular, the Nikon 10x40 Action VII Binocular features a knobby rubber armored housing, wide viewing from the highly-refractive prisms, and a terrifically bright view. A tripod adapter threading allows easy extended glassing from a stationary position (requires optional tripod adapter #7650).
The Nikon 10x40 Action VII, like all of Nikon's non-stabilized binocular line, is backed up by the "No-Fault" 25-year warranty. Regardless of what happens to your binoculars-even of your own negligence-Nikon will repair or replace (at their option) your binocular for just $10 plus the return shipping costs.

These were purchased as a gift for sister who is an avid bird watcher. They are very clear and have a large field of view. They are a little heavy and so I only gave them 4 stars, for normal, everyday use, my sister likes them a lot. The padded carry case and strap are a added bonus. The rubberized outer shell allow you to get a really good grip.
Fro the price, they are a great set of binnoculars.

We are casual birders who love to identify and reidentify the same birds. We just used them at Yellowstone National Park during the winter and were able to watch lots of wildlife including wolves.
The binoculars are very sturdy and the optics are good. This is our 4th or 5th pair of Nikon binoculars. We travel in the third world and find that these binoculars are a great gift to guides that don't have access to binoculars of this quality.
A great mix of value and quality. Highly recommended!!!!

Earlier this year I purchased the same binoculars, but the larger size 16x50 and have those mounted on a tripod at the cottage looking at Lake Michigan. Wanted a lighter-weight pair to hand-hold. These work great---lighter and very clear. Family members comment on how clear both pairs are. (I also bought the 10x50 but this is lighter without any noticable loss in the viewing angle. I will give that pair away to my brother as a retirement gift cuz he was admiring them.)

Have the Nikon Action 7x35 purchased the Nikon 10x40 Action for birding and love them. Used them at the Corkscrew Swamp and was able to pick up many hidden birds, insects, reptiles,etc., that others could not with higher end optical equipment. Would give the purchase 5 stars, but did not care for the strap. Need a halter stap for extended use. [...] Would order again from BH Photo. Too bad you cannot get this quality in a lighter weight unit.

These binocs have great clarity, definetly a great set of binoculars for the price. They are very solid and well built. The only thing I can say bad about them is the weight and lens cover. The lens covers fall off pretty easy and seem a little cheap. The weight is also a surprise, for their size they feel as heavy as some bigger binoculars. Other then that I would definitely recommend these for any hunter, they are not water proof however but the great value for these kind of optics make it worth it.

They have a very sharp image for being 10x zoom, I have used several binocs before, for hunting, and I def like these the best. I like the wheel focusing and the way they conform to your hand when you are holding them also. The only thing bad I can see is that they are a little on the heavy side. If you get a harness like most people do for hunting then it wont be a problem however without one and I can see it straining your neck after a while. Also the lens caps are kinda lame and fall off kind of easy.

After a lot of research this was purchased as a gift for a family member who wished for a good quality binocular for Christmas. He loves it! It has good range and is very clear. Although the binoculars themselves has a neck strap, the only downside to this product is the carry case has no strap or handle to make it easy to tote and you have to be careful to hold onto it well if you need to carry it somewhere. That is the only reason this product has four instead of five stars.

I purchased a Bushnell 10x50 Permafocus and returned it after I found the minimum focus was 30 ft. The Nikon 10x40 can focus as close as 7 or 8 feet even though the specs say otherwise. Also, a manual focus is much easier for your eyes to adjust to. The model is small and very crisp. My wife and I use it for bird watching. This model is a great value for your money.
