I bought this head and some legs separately, trying to find a medium light weight tripod setup for filming hiking and hunting in Idaho.

I just got back from a 4 day trip and put this head to the test. Put the head though some snow and rain, normal Idaho spring time weather. I had no problem with this tripod head during my whole trip.

I put my HVX200 (10 lbs) and my Canon 7D (3 lbs) on this head during the trip. The tripod panned and tilted just fine. Pans were a little tough with the HVX200 but the Canon 7D was perfect. The pan stop screw is decent, but doesn't really act as a drag on the pan. The side tilt over adjustment knob felt a little cheesy, it wouldn't hold the HVX200 and barely held the Canon 7D. On the plus side the quick release was very strong and had no problem holding my HVX200 and 7D.

This light weight tripod head performed very well. I knew with going lightweight and cheap i was going to sacrifice the "drag" and strength of the head. But so far it seems to be a very well put together head.

Also the pan/tilt handle is pretty short, so if your shooting video you have to pay extra attention to move smoothly. But its nice when you are packing it around and setups up quickly.

I bought this head with the Benro flexpod legs. Works great but the head doesn't screw all the way down flat on the legs mounting platform. There is a little space. Its kind of annoying but seemed to hold fine still.

If you stay in the five to eight pound range you will love this lightweight cheap head.

The 391RC2 pan and tilt movements are fine. It is easy to control the movement from a smooth firm feel to a sports quick reaction with a little practice. Tension controls have a good feel and make of very controlled adjustments over all.

However, the platform which can be flipped for vertical use is weak. It does not lock firmly so the camera slides too far one way or the other. It does not sit flat on the tripod. The weight of the camera (Canon Mark IV) causes the platform to go beyond level and won't stay put when locked. It slowly drifts down below level. Also, no level bubble.

The locking nut on the ball head that secures the plate is in a bad place if you are using a 70-200 or larger lens because the mount is on the lens not the camera it becomes very difficult to get in between the lens and the camera to lock the plate.

The locking nut to flip to vertical (also in a bad place) does not lock very well. The camera weight will move the adjustment you make. I resorted to using pliers to get it tight enough.

    Price is good.

I bought this product for use with my Manfrotto 190XB legs. It is quick to place on and off. It is great for panning while video taping. Surprisingly it held my Sigma 150-500mm lens.

Comments about Manfrotto 391RC2 Junior 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head (Black):

Was on the fence about whether or not if I was going to get a ball head or a Pan/Tilt head, but after checking this out in the store I decided on this Manfrotto. At first, when I attached it to my camera the clamp didn't close all the way, but it was still held my camera in place tightly and securely , over the next few time the clamp closed all the way. Not sure what that was about, but it works great now. I get a lot of fluid movement from this Pan/Tilt head.

It´s not a pro video Head, but for it´s price it´s a very big, strong and responsive head for still photo and video. The tilt and shift function for video are not fluid as I expected, but for USD50 is ok.

I was looking for a lightweight tripod head that could be used for still, and occasional video, photography with my Nikon DSLR. This one suits the need nicely. It is small and lightweight enough for packing when I travel, but has the features and versatility to to stabilize the camera under a variety of conditions. I particularily like the smooth operation of the pan head. So far haven't found anything I don't like.

Comments about Manfrotto 391RC2 Junior 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head (Black):

              A very versatile tripod head.
It holds my system (EF 70-100mm f/2.8 L IS II w/ EOS 5D MII, battery grip attached), which all together weigh just under 5kg, and it remains firm & steady.
It pans smoothly and the handle works very well.

Only down side is that the tilt nob and quick release are a bit hard to get to with a fully-laden system.

Otherwise it folds nicely and is quite compact combined with Manfrotto 190 3-section legs. Great for on-the-run photography.

                    Love this head!

Compact size makes it perfect for digital SLR on a tabletop tripod. Finally a graceful way to pan while shooting video with my Nikon D7000. The feel is surprisingly solid.

Getting a smooth pan takes a little practice as this is not really a "fluid" head, it just has variable resistance. But if you're careful, you can pull off some nice pans that would that would otherwise require a bulkier setup.

The quick release fits nicely with the other Manfrotto heads in my collection, allowing me to move smoothly between devices.

I wanted a light compact head for my spotting scope and occasional light duty camera use. Ball heads do not work with a scope and my other heads were large and heavy. The tilt lock is so weak, even when gorilla tightened close to strippng the threads, my scope flops loose when I walk with it over my shoulder. I am afraid my scope will eventually be damaged. The tilt could not hold my middle weight 35mm camera just sitting there. My scope is well within the weight limit stated for this head. It is such an absurd flaw, makes me wonder if anyone who made this actually tried using it once. That the quick plate does not lock also makes me nervous, one brush against something and my scope will be lying on the ground. A weak product for this company, about what I would expect from a $15 no-name head. Just junk. I am taking a wrench to the little tilt knob next to see if it will eventually hold, or I will disable the tlt with JB Weld, if not it is going in the trash.

For the price, this tripod head has a very solid build quality. I'm also quite surprised by how fluid this head is considering the price point. The lack of a spirit bubble is a bit of a dissappointment, but given the need for it to be compact, I'm still very happy with this item.

if you pack your DSLR when you travel and you want to shoot video with it from a tripod is a pretty good option. Obviously, is not going to be as smooth as a nice large video head but for its intended purpose is good. The panning feature is not the fluid type there is only a knob that you tighten in order to give resistance. Honestly, the novel only works to lock it in place, if you really want to pan with ahead you must loose and it completely otherwise it will not pan smoothly. it's pretty much the same thing with the tilt. However, for travel video is still superior than using a regular ball head, by far.

You get what you pay for and this tripod head isn't very good. I found that the quick relase doesn't want to fully click in and there is a lot of play in motion of each piece of the 3 way pan even when you tighten down everything. Save your money and spend a little more on a better quality head.

Normally I'm on the move catching shots from different angles in the venue I'm involved in. Occasionally I'll shoot video and need something more stable than a monopod or the head I currently use which isn't made to pan. The 391RC2 is an affordable solution to the fluid filled movement I'd like to use, very smooth to pan with. A bubble balance would be a nice addition, as would an extra locking device to secure the spring loaded lever that holds the quick release plate. As it is said to hold up to 11 lbs, I wouldn't recommend anything heavier than about 6-8 lbs. My camera with the 70-200 f2.8 lens is 5-7 lbs and that, I feel, is pushing it a little. I would recommend this to anyone needing a good entry level head!

I use this head (being compact) so I can fold it away into my cary bag along with my Oben tripod (for my SLR). It works ok... the only problem so far is if you
do use it for 1080p video on a pan the head has a sticking point so you need to sort out the movement and what you will do before you do it (run through). For all of that
it will do (after you work all the sticking points out). It is good for still shots and has a good range of movement. More levels would have been good. My Oben quick release is so much better than the one on this head but all said and done there can be trade off's on all gear.

Looking for a cheap manfrotto quality head that was good for both photo and video. Went with this one over the 700 and the 701, both of which I think I liked the movement of more. Chose this one because it has a quickrelease, whereas the others require sliding.

One annoyance is the direction of switching your camera from landscape to panoramic - make sure you check your horizon lines because it's not always flat or 90 degrees - just a little bit off.

                                            Solid.
