Blue Crane teaches you about every setting on your camera. It is a movie you can watch and play with the camera at the same time, at your convience. Plus, the price at B&H was by far the best I have ever paid one of these DVD's.

If it weren't for the fact that I'm a total novice, I might have had an easier time following this video. That said, I think anyone with this camera can benefit from this DVD. I am going to have to watch it several more times before I think I will become more familiar with all the functions. The one thing I did find annoying was the fact that my PC DVD player would not pause when I clicked on the pause button to try some of the suggestions. I did this several times during the playback, and each time I had to actually click the stop button to get it to stop playing. Needless to say this was annoying as h_ll, because each time I had to start from the beginning and fast forward to the areas in question. This is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5.

I am very pleased with this instructional DVD. It walks through things you can find in your manual but is more in debth, and takes the time to explain and review.

As a skilled photographer finally officially switching from film to digital with the purchase of a Canon 5D Mark 11, I figured I'd need some basic camera info. This CD gave a good overview of the use of the camera. It's divided into chapters that you can click around to and each chapter gives thorough and clear information. I definitely felt more at ease with my camera after viewing it, so it fulfilled my expectations. A couple of times they went into photography (rather than learning the camera). So, rather than advancing to their second disk, I think I'll use Canon's free tutorials and YouTube. They're free and probably I will pick and choose exactly the types of information I want to learn at my level.

Comments about Blue Crane Digital DVD: Training DVD for Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital Cameras (Volume One):
Not the professional level I was looking
for. But very good for people who NEED full
auto settings for everything. The real newbies
to SLR pro cameras.
A much better cast of models would help.
These must have been embarrassed office workers.
Poor lighting also.
Very amateur looking.
For a full retail price for the DVD, I would
expect B&H to charge $10 for such an amateur
version.
Is there no good DVD maker out there who does
a high level of work?
This DVD looked like it was done with low
budget wedding photographers branching out.
I was looking for serious info on manual shooting,
making custom manual settings like U would do with a Leica.
More info on using RAW and the use with
Photoshop.
More about studio lighting and flash with
models. Some about using Leica lenses on the
Canon 5D.
Nothing here about batteries, memory, cables,
computer link up, or even lenses. Yeah,
nothing about lenses. Do they ever show image
stabilization? NO.
Filters?
But, it is good for the new photographer.
Certainly not for a Brooks grad like me.
I give it a C- and a reshoot.

Any tool you can use to help you learn a new trick is worth the [$] it costs several times over. Nobody knows their equipment 100%. This makes for a nice review to remind you of the good old basics as well.

I got a lot of good info out of this video. If you're the kind of person that has a difficult time learning from a book and need to be shown how to do something, I would definitely recommend buying this. I bought it when I first bought my 5d mark 2 and it taught me a lot about all the different functions and also how to use them which is something the instruction manual wont tell you. It has a pretty wide range of info.

Moving up to the 5D Mark II froma 20D, I knew a fair amount about how to use my new camera. But on the advice of a friend I bought the Tranining DVD. What a great investment! It's so much easier to learn and understand the camera settngs when you can see it in action as well as read it. The production values are terrific, with photos and videos that illustate points clearly and concisely. I'm about to order Volume 2 and the DVD for the 580E Flash

Thought I'd substitute reading the manual by watching this DVD but as the man says, it's not intended to be a substitute. However, I probably will buy Volume 2 when it is available. If I learn one thing I didn't know it's worth [$]
