Product Highlights
  • Wide Angle
  • Porro Prism
  • 8.3° Angle of View

A beautifully designed compact porro prism binocular, the Vixen 8x32 ZWCF Geoma is a light and brilliant optical performer that's perfect for general use.  Its enormous 8.3° field of view surrounds your vision, and it was designed with absolutely no skimping on the optical coatings, materials, or internal baffling.

This is, in fact, much the same genre of binocular as another recently-discontinued Japanese 8x30 porro prism model which was beloved by birders.  Old-school porros such as this can't focus terribly close or quick and are quite resistant to weatherproofing-but do provide rich, contrasty wide fields that have a great sense of depth.  There's good reason optical purists tolerate their few drawbacks versus ubiquitous roof prism models.

The ZWCF 8x32 has 15mm of eye relief, sufficient for most, and can be attached to a tripod, car window mount, chestpod, or monopod if needed.  Provided you don't need waterproofing, the Geoma ZWCF 8x32 makes for an absolutely terrific stadium sports spectator's tool.

Comments about Vixen Optics 8x32 ZWCF Geoma Binocular:

I use this binocular for bird watching and it works very well for this purpose. It is light weight, has a very wide field of focus, and, like other porro binoculars, gives a nice three dimensional view. The view is very bright, sharp and clear, comparable to my much more expensive 10x32 roof prism model. I am very pleased that I can detect no annoying color fringing whatsoever. Contrary to the B&H description of this binocular, I find the focus to be very smooth and easy. This is unusual for porro binoculars in this price range which are often stiff and difficult to focus. Indeed, when compared to its counterpart, the Vixen Foresta 8 x 32 ZWCF, it was much easier to focus. This was exactly what I was hoping for because I find birding much easier when using binoculars with quick, responsive focusing.

However, unlike the Foresta, it is not waterproof nor very rugged looking. In fact, it has the look of a binocular that was readily found 25 years ago! It has an old-fashioned 3/8" strap, rubber fold-down eyecups, and a hard vinyl case (no instructions included!). Nevertheless, it was easy to handle and it puts little strain on one's neck because of its light weight. Despite its appearance, it seems to be very well made. I wear glasses and I find the eye-relief to be excellent with the eyecups folded down. I have not experienced any blackouts - I get the full view at all times. However, the diopter adjustment moves easily so you do have to check and adjust it regularly to assure the sharpest view for your eyesight.

Not every user will find the Geoma suitable but, for me, I find it to be an excellent value and its surprisingly outstanding performance readily overcomes its few deficiencies.
