I have just returned from an 17mo bicycle trip around the world. I kept this camera in my handle bar bag and would use it 20-30 time a day for photos and short videos. I took over 25,000 pics with the D10 and could not be happier, unless it had better low light but well its not built for that.
I used it to take pics under water , jumping in water falls, in the ocean and in heavy heavy rain storms it never got water in it and i never checked the Gasket as some nit picker suggested I just opened and shut the doors on the camera and used it like a tool not like a piece of surgical equipment which it is not.
After 17mo of use it is scratched banged up dented and a more beautiful than when i first bought it, The battery life is excellent, the wrist strap is awesome, it stands on it's own without a problem and the rounded design makes it so much easier to hold onto. the large display is easy to read and the buttons even now after all the use have not failed and not stuck once.
bottom line THIS IS THE most rugged Point and shoot i have ever owned and i have owned a few

We have used the camera daily for about 5 weeks while snorkeling above Hawaiian reefs. During this time we have taken over 400 digital pictures of flora & fauna living on reefs. The camera is really quite remarkable in that it can be adjusted to have a focal length of 35 – 420mm (35mm film equivalent) by using settings for an optical zoom, tele-converter or digital zoom. When this unusually wide range of focal depths are combined with wide ranges in shutter speeds, apertures, ISOs, & image resolutions, it offers the user significant capability for photography on land & underwater. In addition, we have found that: (1) one lithium ion battery is adequate for daily use of the camera if we charge it every evening; & (2) using a 2GB SD Memory Card is more than adequate if we transfer the photos to a computer daily.
Pros:
• Camera takes excellent pictures using any of the 3 modes: automatic, program or scene selection
• Instructions in user's guide are very good
• Photos are excellent when used on land or underwater – but see cons
• Normally photos are crisp & clear (sunsets, animals, fish, corals, foliage)
• Employs a clever strap mount – but see cons
• Will float when combined with the Sealife float strap SL 920
Cons:
• Camera's rounded body & edges make it: 1) difficult to hold; 2) unstable when set on its base; & 3) it rolls onto LCD screen or lens & special care is required to prevent damage
• When used underwater, the strap mount can be inadvertently disconnected, allowing camera to sink to bottom, while the strap mount & float strap stay at water surface
• Design of the 14 push buttons on the camera allow saltwater to seep beneath the keys
o To prevent salt deposits from eventually making keys inoperable, the camera must be soaked in fresh water for several hours after each use
o After soaking, the keys should be flushed with fresh water while being depressed multiple times to ensure saltwater is replaced by fresh water
o Water drops should be removed with a "lint free" cloth or paper towel, & Qtips
• Gasket for the battery/SD card is on the edge of the large access door & the gasket for the printer/USB is on bottom of the small access door. Both doors (battery/SD memory card & printer/USB connection) trap water that can invade the inside of the camera
o In each case, the user must hold the door upside down when opening it & immediately wipe water drops away from the hinge, spring, latch, inside housing, door & gasket with Qtips. Some of these places are very difficult to reach inside the camera. Otherwise, water will seep into the electrical connections when the door is opened.
o Before closing the doors each gasket must be carefully inspected with a hand lens (5x – 7x magnification) to be sure that small debris (100 microns in size & smaller) of lint fibers, skin flakes, & tiny sand grains have been removed by cleaning the gasket & camera door frame prior to closing the door or water can seep past the gasket into the camera after the door is closed.
• If a vigorous water removal procedure is not followed, the camera is certain to be damaged by leakage passed the doors into battery/SD & printer/USB compartments & the keys will eventually become inoperable.
Bottomline:
Camera is excellent for land & water splash conditions. Although underwater photos are excellent, the camera is not robustly designed to prevent eventual water damage.

Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Digital Camera:
I've had the Canon Powershot for two weeks now and I would buy it over and over again. I mainly got it due to the underwater feature, but it is not only great underwater, but also in every environment I find myself in. I used it for a week while snorkeling in Florida's coral reefs and I got awesome underwater pictures. In addition, the camera is wonderful to take pictures of aquariums, daylight, night (even with no flash! which did I great job catching turtles nesting at night without interfering their behavior). The camera is easy to use, and after reading the manual (highly recommended), I realized there were so many cool features that increased the quality of the image. The camera has a high shutter speed and continuous shooting that gets image at about every second, which turned out to be great in the ocean to capture wild life movement. It is possible to adjust the ISO, picture quality (pixels and size), color, light, much easier than any other camera I've own, plus all of that can be done quickly, so you don't miss out the perfect picture. Some people take great care of their camera (and one review turned the process of cleaning it into a long, annoying procedure), but all I did was soaking it in fresh water after using it in the diving trips, and wiping with a cloth. Make sure to remove the strap from the strap mount once soaking it because a lot of salt can get between those and later on (as I figured it out), it's harder to press the release button from the strap due to accumulation of salt. Other than that, all I did was make sure the waterproof seals were close (it has a red mark if they're not, which helps a lot). The battery life turned out to be great too for I took over a thousand pictures and maybe 30 min of video recording and I only charged it once in a whole week using it constantly every day, and I still have more than half battery left.
The one thing I was not totally sure if this was the perfect camera initially was the 12 mega pixel (which I don't understand much, just always thought that more pixels = more quality), since there are so many cameras available for underwater with 16 MP, and they cost half the price. But, after debating with my brother, he explained that doesn't really matter if I got the quality of a Canon Powershooting. And that turned out to be outstandingly true, since some of my friends had other brands of cameras with higher pixel quality, but they didn't get half the quality of images I did. Plus, my zoom got way better pictures from farther objects, by magnifying at about 10x more.
The one BAD thing about the camera is the size. It's impossible to put in your pocket and it doesn't fit the other cases I have, so I probably have to buy a new one. It is not awful size, I just wish I could put in my pocket instead of letting it hang on my wirst all day.
I am still trying to figure out a lot of the features this camera have, but of one thing I am absolutely sure: IT IS A WONDERFUL CHOICE!!!

This is a great camera to have to use for underwater shots as well as regular photos. It is durable, fairly compact and easy to use.
I originally bought this for a trip to Maui and we used it for snorkeling as well as point and shoot shots when I didn't carry my big DSLR. It worked great. The only con would be the lag on the shutter. That is with most point and shoots though, so you get used to it. It worked great for the underwater shots. We got some nice shots and were very happy with it. I love the four positions on the wrist strap and the buttons are easy to use and the manual easy to understand. My only complaint would be that it wasn't Boxer puppy proof. My dog got it off the table and chewed the buttons off. The camera still worked, only had a few scratches on the body and one on the viewfinder, but with the buttons almost gone I couldn't change the settings, so I took it to the service center. Canon did a replacement camera for me at a discounted price, so I didn't have to buy another one.
The camera is used weekly now that we live in Hawaii. I use it every time we snorkel and it goes to the beach weekly. It is my go to camera for when I ride my scooter to the beach. I love the pictures it takes, as the colors are great and the exposure is spot on. We are looking into buying a second camera for everyone else to use when snorkeling and it it will most likely be this camera again. Great camera for the price!

I have several Canon cams and lenses, so I trusted the company. But this little blue camera LEAKED while using it under water. I am very disappointed. I sent it back to Canon, who gladly sent me a refurbished one for the out-of-warranty price, and the replacement cam quit working after three months. I spent over $500 only to throw the thing in the trash. It was fun while it worked...but two cameras having problems means there is something most definitely wrong with the manufacturing.

Excellent camera for those wanting a durable, waterproof field oriented camera. We currently use four of these cameras to support biological field crews conducting studies in both salt marsh and wetland vegetation. We work in both bright, water reflected environments and in heavy cloud cover. The cameras have an great battery life, great in low light, and record the data quickly.

Got this before a trip to hawaii and it did all it stated and more. Video was great. Still pics were very clear. In water photos were a great change of perspective to have completely different pitures of kids while in waves, no worry about getting camera wet. Never a problem with opening and closing waterproof doors. Soaked camera in fresh water like it said after being in salt water. Finding it to be a great camera after vacation for regular picture taking.

Bought the camera for a Caribbean cruise. I used it for pictures of snorkeling and any time my 60D would get wet. The underwater picture quality is great and suprisingly, the above water pictures were also very good. Great color. The Canon controls are easy to master. The manual is well done and easy to read. The only cons are minor, there is a lag in the time the shutter is released and the picture is taken. I missed some fish pictures. I'm a little spoiled by the DSLR. Its also a fatty. Your not going to fit it in your pocket. But, I'd buy it again if I lost it. Great Canon quality. My friend is a Nikon guy and he bought one.

Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Digital Camera:
We owned one PowerShot D10 for over a year as well as an older PowerShot (but different model) which finally gave out. So we looked around and decided to buy a second PowerShot D10. The reasoning was we liked the one we had but if anything happened to it we still wanted to take underwater pictures so the second acted as a spare (and used the same batteries etc.) and gave us good regular pictures as well. As it turned out nothing has happened to either one and both have now been snorkling many times. In the last 3 weeks we took over 3000 pictures and several hours of video (about half underwater). The pictures are still great since the viewfinder is bright and easy to see under water.
We have previously used 2 other underwater cameras both of which leaked. The only drawback is that if you zoom while taking video the image blurs. My wish list is for the same camera with a longer zoom and one that can zoom while taking video.

I'm not the most knowledgeable photographer, so can't attest much to its quality. Since I couldn't take good pictures with the best camera in the world, I can't do it with this one either. I'm overall happy with it. And confident in its being durable.

Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Digital Camera:
This is an excellent camera. I've used it extensively while diving on reefs and kayaking in Florida waters. It takes superb underwater pictures in clear water. I use it for microscopy and snapshots and it has been reliable. I've gotten zoom errors requiring repeated restarts while trying to zoom in on objects underwater, but this error doesn't occur above water. This is my second D-10. I managed to destroy the first by accident and had no hesitation about replacing it. Above water, at full digital zoom, there is a definite loss of resolution, but since most of my applications are close-range, this isn't a major obstacle. I bought this camera originally because of it's ability to withstand water pressure to 10 meters and have not been disappointed. I used it to record videos of a school of feeding sharks and was delighted with the image quality.

Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Digital Camera:
This camera just survived a trip to the summit of Mount Washington with me. It experienced -15F at night and 10F during the day and the battery held up like a champ while my cell phone lasted less than 90 minutes in those temps. The other bonus to this camera is there are no moving external parts. It slipped into my chest pocket with ease without ever having to worry about it snagging. For anyone active, this camera is a must.
