The Profoto D1 Air 1000 w/s Monolight is a significant refinement of the ComPact monolight series from the company which having become synonymous with professional strobe lighting, is now celebrating its 40th anniversary.

This D1 Air 1000 w/s 2-Light Studio Kit includes 2 D1 Air 1000 monolights, 2-D1 Small White Umbrellas, 2-D1 Light Stands, 1-D1 Studio Kit Case and a Profoto Air Remote.

No stone has been left unturned in the provision of tech and convenience features that seem to derive from professional photographers' wish lists. The sleek matte-black, high-impact polycarbonate finish encases strobe design that goes beyond the highly visible LED readout and is digital from the ground up. The 7 stop power range breaks down to 1/10 stop increments providing flexibility, precision and consistency, made possible by dual mode SMPS capacitor charging.

A new built-in 77 degree reflector (5.12" diameter) maximizes case space and is ideal for umbrella and softbox use. Features that we've come to expect from Profoto over the years: short flash duration, rapid recycling, a bright 300W modeling lamp and heavy-duty cabling are all on-board.

New Profoto Air System technology replaces the sync cord, allowing the head to be remotely triggered from as much as 300 meters (1000 feet) away using a Profoto Air Remote (included with kit) or Air Sync transceiver (sold separately). The Air Sync provides wireless triggering (8 channels) via hot shoe or mini plug, while the Air Remote provides wireless triggering as well as full-function head control over 8 channels in 6 distinct groups. Additionally, the D1 Air's syncing and complete functionality can be wirelessly controlled via your PC or Mac by using Profoto's Air USB and Studio Air systems.

Modeling lamp operation is user-selectable: On/Off/Proportional and Free (manual). There is also a selectable flash confirmation (dimming) feature in addition to an audible, fully-recycled tone. The D1 is compatible with the full line of widely-acclaimed Profoto light-shaping tools. Finally, the self-sensing multi-voltage circuitry allows you to take the D1 anywhere in the world.

Comments about Profoto D1 Air 1000 W/S 2 Monolight Studio Kit:

These lights work great, easy to use and setup. No need to read any manuals it was very intuitive. For use with a sekonic light meter i put the air remote on a pocket wizard flex 5 and the mini flex on my camera and everything triggered wirelessly with no issues. The only complaint I have are the kit stands leave a bit to be desired. In the studio i use a much heavier stand however on location the kit stands are light and portable, just not very sure how long they will last.

Very good kit, it's the most powerful and complete strobe kit i bought, it's my second one. I use Hensel's and Profoto flash's with a plus for Profoto for it's overall characteristics...

Comments about Profoto D1 Air 1000 W/S 2 Monolight Studio Kit:

Great consistent light and I really like the Air remote. Easy to transport and easy to set-up. It's well built and the carrying case is very nice. Also tons of accessories available from Profoto. Just be ready to take out another mortgage on the house.

The only thing I dislike about the D1 kit are the stands. They're a little flimsy but that's easily remedied by replacing them with something to your liking/needs. Good stuff. You can't go wrong.

Things these have that are important to me:1. Quality of light is crystal clear, on the cooler side IMO. 2. Consistency from shot to shot, so far.3. Well built, you can just tell compared to the others.4. Mounting modifiers is the easiest I've found.5. AirS system is hands down simple and not bulky.6. Great modeling light and easy to adjust all controls.Things I would like to change:1. Fan to only come on when and accelerate as needed.2. Remember the last settings when turning back on.3. If possible to make the units lighter.4. Included umbrellas aren't up to par for a kit this expensive.5. Longer cords to plug in.Would buy them again. Probably will get 500 w/s to add to these.Compared to the competition, I feel confident I made the right choice. So far I don't see a problem with the recessed bulb which some have commented about.

Comments about Profoto D1 Air 1000 W/S 2 Monolight Studio Kit:

I have been traveling quite a bit lately and find that the D1 system has been fantastic with restrictive baggage requirements. Although the kit comes with a case, I would say that it is only a car case and you shouldn't trust the construction with baggage handlers. The stands are not the best either, but its not why I purchased the kit. The Air Remote is fantastic for controlling the heads when they are up on stands and the power is sufficient. Light quality and consistency is all Profoto. Great system that will enhance ease of travel.
5 stars for the lights and remote, 3 stars for the case and stands, hence the 4 star final rating. I paired this system with the BatPac and I now have a fully portable studio system.

Use these monolights when I only need a two light setup. But also in a 4 light setup when plenty of outlets available.
The strobes provide plenty of power and output with fast recycling time.

I use the D1 Air's for studio work and location work. The problem about monolights was when you had them high up, you would have to keep lowering and raising them to adjust the power. With the Air system that is a thing of the past.
