A must for the longer 1x6 strip box and the beauty dish as well. The beauty dish has a much more pleasant and expected output with domes in place rather than utilizing the built in reflector of the D1's in my opinion.

The quality is superb, the price is ridiculous, but it is ProFoto. This should have been included with the D1 heads. It does what it is supposed to do - spreads out the light more, especially in a beauty dish. I haven't done scientific comparisons, but the quality of the light is more pleasing.

It is a pain, however. You have to remove for travel (I don't think there are protective caps) and either replace the frosted cover or leave the flash tube and modeling lights exposed. Fiddling with the clips to get the frosted cover on and off is tedious and requires a slim screwdriver. Leaving the bulbs exposed carries some risk.

Would have given four stars if the price was 40% lower. Can't give five stars to an accessory that really just fixes a design flaw.

Comments about Profoto Glass Dome for D1 Monolight - Frosted:

This really makes the D1 very close to the light quality of a Pro head. However, the width of this dome is bigger than the Pro head dome. In most instances that doesn't make a difference, but I ran into a problem fitting it into the profoto adapter for an Elinchrome Octa 74". The small silver reflector on the adaptor has a diameter too small for this dome. I had to remove the reflector from the adaptor to be able to use this with the Octa. I saw no change in light quality after doing this however, so in the end I was happy.

Comments about Profoto Glass Dome for D1 Monolight - Frosted:

When I first purchased my B1, the light was somewhat flat with just the glass plate. However, when I switched it out and replaced it with the frosted glass dome, I noticed a considerable difference in the quality of light! Contrary to what others have said, I found replacing the glass plate with this to be quite simple!!

Does not come with directions on how to install. You have to refer to your strobe manual for installation procedures. It is easy to install. A must have when using profoto beauty dish. There is a big difference when used without it!

Save yourself the trouble and [$]. The difference in light spread between this and the glass on large softboxes is only 1/5 a stop while hotspot produced by d1 air is over a stop brighter than edge. These monolights can't be used with anything but umbrella PERIOD.

I use these on D1 heads to broaden the dispersion angle so that large softboxes are evenly filled. I don't find them necessary for small boxes. They are totally over priced, but there are no alternatives.

Overpriced, should be about 39 bucks, but thats Profoto and I guess I think it is worth it. Otherwise typical impeccable Profoto quality. Improves D1 light quality with Soft Boxes and is mandatory for Beauty Dishes. Works nicely bare in large spaces (similar to bare bulb but softer).

I use this in my Profoto D1 1000 Airs for my 5' Octabox. It is by far superior light compared to the glass plate. The thing about this product is that it's hard to find and I have 4 D1s and only 1 Glass Dome!

The Profoto domes are a must for even light distribution. Only two issues I found were that it is awkward to install and once on the D1 there is no travel cap for the glass dome. Great when your going to have your lights set up for an extended period of time.

I am not going to rate this poorly because Profoto decided not to include this standard with their expensive monolights.

If you have the D1 monolights, buy this to make the light more even in softboxes, Magnum reflectors and beauty dishes.

It is very well made and will last a lifetime!

when using the larger profoto modifiers, this is required.

be careful with overheating, this can crack the dome... make sure you leave some ventilation with prolonged modeling light usage with modifiers such as a softbox.

Utilizing the glass domes on the D1's helps many of the Profoto lighting modifiers perform more as expected (less hot spots on all soft boxes)

A must for the longer 1x6 strip box and the beauty dish as well. The beauty dish has a much more pleasant and expected output with domes in place rather than utilizing the built in reflector of the D1's in my opinion.

but it can not fit into my Elinchrom Profoto adaptor ring . I have to grind the adaptor 1-1.5mm width so that the glass dome can fit in nicely.
