I bought this product to protect my company's presentation materials that are shipped multiple times throughout the year, all over the country. I have owned and used many different Pelican products in the past and have never been disappointed; they are virtually indestructable.
The only real drawback to this case is that it doesn't have a side handle. A side handle would make this case much easier to load and unload from a vehicle.
Pros:
- Extremely well built and durable.
- Foam can be customized to fit a variety of items.
- Has wheels for easier transport.
- Lockable.
Cons:
- Doesn't have a side handle (the only reason for the 4 stars).
- A little pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Typical excellent Pelican construction.... BUT, with one very fatal flaw in my opinion. There is ONLY handles on either end, no handle in the middle. This makes handling and loading this case extremely awkward, to downright difficult. I am 6' 4", and can barely extend my arms wide enough to reach both handles, and even still this is a nearly impossible way to try to lift the case without destroying your back if there is much weight in it. As it is designed now, it really takes two people to easily and safely move it. Too bad, if it had a handle in the middle, I would have given it 5 stars as it's perfect for my lightstands in every other way!

Only reason I rated it 4 stars was because of the weight. Very solid case with great protection for your equipment. Foam makes it easy to customize so your stuff is protected. Have camera body, 5 lenses, 4 flashes, pocket wizards, 2 tripods, accessories and still have room left over. Wheels make it easy to drag around. Hard to lift by just one person.

Really solidly built, like all pelican products. I have many different cases for my gear, but if they are going on an airplane or boat...they travel in a pelican case. This one does not disappoint!

I use the Pelican 1740 transport case with foam to store all my lenses while at home . When I have to go out and shoot I take the lenses that I will need for the day. Its a great way to protect your gear. I have a smaller case for all my pocket wizards and speedlights. Highly recommended. I plan on purchasing other cases for my Elinchrom Rx lights.

Comments about Pelican 1740 Transport Case with Foam (Black):
This trunk is fantastic. I keep my glidetrack and 4 heavy-duty avenger stands in it for traveling and it is totally reliable. I easily plucked the foam to fit around my equipment. The wheels are excellent and make rolling it around easy. I wish it had a side handle but even if it did, I doubt I would often use it. The only thing to watch out for is over-packing it making it overweight for checking with the airline. Double-check weight limits before traveling and have a scale!

I travel on a regular basis for work and this product is the perfect size for my dslr essentials. I am able to pack in a glidetrack full tripod and follow focus with rails. Everything has its own slot and fits snug and protected. Seems a little pricey at first, but you def get what you pay for. I've had TSA damage a lot of gear in the past and this is a great investment to combat careless airlines.

bit heavy, but great product when i want to travel with my photography equipment. For me the foam is too weak i would like something little denser so everthing packs evenly.

I use this to carry my Kessler pocket dally and supporting tripods and arms. It has plenty of room. I was concerned that it was maybe going to be too big but the size is perfect.

This is my new favorite case! It holds light stands, softbox, tripod, gel filter roll, and there's room for more. And it has wheels, much easier to get around with than my old "over the shoulder" bags.
If it were only a couple inches longer, it would hold C-Stands.

I bought this case to transport lights for my production company. The case is secure and durable. I've heard great things about Pelican cases, but hadn't bought one until now. Despite the size, I'm able to transport this case by myself. It's not too heavy - doesn't have a side handle, which would be nice - but still worth the price and solid.
