The TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II Tilt-Shift Lens from Canon is a wide-angle lens for EF mount cameras. It provides tilt-shift functions to control perspective and correct convergence of lines within your frame. It is especially useful in architecture, landscape, and product photography. The optical tilt mechanisms enable precise control of depth of field along with perspective control.

The tilt-shift function on the 24mm f/3.5 lens allows adjustment of the focal plane by an angle of +/-8.5º and enables parallel shift of the optical axis by +/-12mm. Both tilt and shift can be engaged singly and in combination. The tilt-shift rotation mechanism locks at right angle and at parallel and clicks at 45º and the lens mount itself can rotate left or right by 90º with click-stop adjustment each 30º.

Being a Canon L-series lens, its optical design and physical structure are optimal. Aspherical and ultra-low dispersion lens elements suppress aberrations and provide sharp delineation. Subwavelength Structure Coating (SWC) reduces ghosting and flare and truly circular diaphragm results in pleasing out-of-focus backgrounds. The focus ring on the lens provides precise manual focus action and the tilt and shift knobs are sturdy and control the mechanisms smoothly.

TS-E lens is compatible with all Canon EOS cameras.
Wide image circle of 67.2mm is 50% greater than 35mm/full frame film area.
High precision glass (16 elements/11 groups) for low distortion and high resolution to the edge of the image
The tilt and shift mechanism rotates +/-90°, allowing shift in any direction and the tilt mechanism independently rotates +/-90°, allowing tilt in any direction relative to the shift.
One Aspherical and three UD lens elements minimize chromatic aberration.
Sub-wavelength structure and super-spectra coatings minimize ghosting and flare.
Circular aperture for creative, blurred highlights

If you are looking to do some serious Architech or Landscape Photography, this lens is a must have. The Tilt/Shift lens make you think and compose your shots before clicking away. Full Manual and full creative control. Very little distortion in the corners with full frame. No Chromatic Abberations. Crystal clear sharp images.
If you are a fast shooter with all Auto and HOPE you got something good. This lens is NOT for you.
This lens is for photographers who tell their cameras and lens what to do, not the other way around.

I've been renting this lens for a while with great results and finally made the decision to buy one. When I got it I was taken aback immediately by the abnormal level of fringing all over the images and quickly sent the lens back for an exchange. The new lens performs better generally but the performance is still marred by purple and green fringing along all contrasty lines, and not just around the edges but also in the middle of the shot. I bought the lens mostly for architecture and landscape photography, and both styles unfortunately often deal with contrasty edges. After uncomfortably long times in post production to correct the fringing, I'm just not trusting this lens anymore unless I'm in a very controlled environment, which is sad when I think that I've spent $2K on it. Btw the 90mm TS lens which isn't even an L series has no fringing at all and has the best image quality of all the lenses I own. I was expecting similar quality with this one and so I'm quite disappointed. Sure you might say that I was unlucky twice on this purchase, and that I should send my replacement lens to Canon for realignment right away, but what does that say about Canon's initial lack of quality control?

    Comments about Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II Tilt-Shift Lens:

I use this lens for exterior and interior architectural photography. It is always better to get it right in the cameral instead of counting on software to correct perspective. I also own the 17mm TS-E and am thinking of selling it. This focal length is much more useful with less distortion or flare.

      Comments about Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II Tilt-Shift Lens:

I would say this is a amazing lens in canon lineup. A lot of people may spend a lot of time on thinking for either 17mm f4 or 24mm f3.5. My answer is 24mm. Because it is more practical and excellent to 17mm. It can be added on filters and when the tilt and shift is not needed, it becomes a wide angle lens which provides a great image quality. So, it does not need to worry much about whether the tilt and shift lens is necessary or not.

This is a remarkably sharp lens that takes landscape photography to the next level. It requires you to me more studious with the shot, and a tripod is a requirement for excellent results.

It is a very creative lens; however, I use it primarily for increasing depth of field and keystone correction. I am pleased with the purchase.

Note: Leave the locking screws unlocked whenever able in order to avoid the problems encountered by others. Not that big of a problem, I found.

Super piece of Canon Glass. Very sharp. Great construction, and very precise mechanics. The in-focus point is very narrow in manual focus. My copy is a little stiff to shift, but is still very managable. The large extended front element requires a little more care than typical lenses.

        Comments about Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II Tilt-Shift Lens:

I have several points to make about this lens:
1 - this lens is extremely versatile and will cover nearly all of your landscape, architectural and special lens needs.
2 - DO take the time to practice with the lens before you take it out for a shoot. You don't want to be on a shoot trying to figure out how it does what you want it to do.
3 - DO us a tripod - simple enough and you will appreciate it in the end. It is a heavier lens and for all of the manipulations that you will be doing, you need the stability of a tripod.
4 - DO NOT use automatic camera settings as there is nothing automatic about this lens and you will not like the results if you do. Center-weighted metering will be off, so use evaluative (if you must) or better yet, use an actual light meter for scene exposure. Bracketing will help with this too.
5 - DO use the locks each and every time to prevent alterations or slip in your tilt and / or shift settings.
6 - Know which aperture you want to use to get the effects you want.
7 - Use the live screen mode for focusing. Magnification of this is key to a photo that explodes with information rather than a merely nice one.
8 - Infinite rotation of the lens, with 30 degree stops, is a feature most overlook and one that will make your photos pop!
9 - 82mm filters can be attached but you are really limited to one at a time. I recommend a UV for general use and definitely the circular polarizer for those special occasions.
I would highly recommend this lens to any photographer interested in parallax correction and it is capable of so much more, it deserves to be used and experimented with a lot! This lens is not for the point-and-shoot aficionado or for the hopeful auto-shooter. It is not an entry level tilt-shift lens and will perform as well as a large format setup. Expensive - Oh YES and worth every penny if you use it to its potential.

I use this for taking landscape and architecture pictures. The TS strcture can generate multiple combinations for tilt and shift. This fuction is very useful and satisfy nearly every situation when take photos. Its optical quality is nearly the best one among the entire canon lenses. The only problem is it must be used very carefully, for preventing dust goes inside it.

          Comments about Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II Tilt-Shift Lens:

I rented this lens for a shoot a few months ago. The second I started using it, I knew I needed to buy one. I've been calling it the "Shot Awesomizer" because you can point it at something totally uninteresting and save the shot. Don't know how to get a good shot of the ugly location, slap this baby on and you'll have something.

I'm also enjoying using the lens as a prime lens. I love that it has a hard stop, unlike other Canon L lenses. Wish they were all this well built.

I have feeling a lot of folks will have an issue with the weight of the lens, but, personally, I love a heavier lens and I think it's perfect.

The only thing I wish I could do with the lens is remove the home position bump, but that's only because I'm using it as it wasn't really intended and doing in-camera focus tilt/shift racks.

          Comments about Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II Tilt-Shift Lens:

I waited almost one year before entering this review to gain experience with using this lens. I just returned fron 2 1/2 weeks in Iceland which I considered a real field test for this lens. I used it for 50% of my shots - churches, small town buildings, landscapes, interiors. Only my 24-70 f2.8L got the same amount of use. Always use it with a spirit level on the camera and a tripod. This forces you to slow down and frame carefully - just like my Zone VI and Canham view camera days but with a lot less weight to carry. The lens is very, very sharp. No problems with build quality or lens creep as some have reported. Everything locks down tight. Not a speciality lens to me but an everyday working lens. In cold weather, freezing fingers will find it hard to turn the small knobs for lens movements. Great, wonderful lens - really happy to have this one.

                  Comments about Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II Tilt-Shift Lens:

I use this lens for wedding photography and it is so much fun to use. It took a little while for me to get used to the manual focusing, but other than that this lens has been a dream. I definitely carry it around at every shoot now!

At Digital Coconut we specialize in shooting luxury villas and resorts all over the world. This lens is the most useful tool in our gear bag as it is perfect for shooting rooms and outside shots of building. Then we can also do creative images with the tilt shift as well.

                      Comments about Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II Tilt-Shift Lens:

I have only used this lens a short time so far but it brings back some of the control I had with my LF view camera. It appears very sharp and the controls are easy to use. The ability to rotate both the tilt and shift throughout a 90 degree range gives relatively precise control. The manual focus with Live View 10x works very well. I only use the camera with a tripod, mirror up, silent mode, with a remote switch, so image stabilization has not been an issue so far. I use the lens mostly for landscape photography and architectural subjects and am completely satisfied with them so far. It can be a bit slow to set up the correct focus and depth of field but I'm used to that and don't mind. I usually work slowly and methodically - it is certainly not the lens for quick grab shots or action photography or where a large number of shots with different conditions need to be accommodated. I use the 3 TS lenses I have as prime lenses along with a pair of zooms for longer isolation shots.

                      Comments about Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II Tilt-Shift Lens:

Got this lens just a couple of weeks ago, so I don't have a wealth of experience with it. Most of the cons I could right as of this time would have more to do with my inexperience with the lens. It does take some getting used to, and I recommend reading a little bit about tilt in order to understand the principles behind it. I recommend a very high quality filter on it if you do use one. I bought a Hoya circular polarizer and it does degrade image quality a bit. My Samyang 14mm is sharper than this lens with the CP. One day I may try a more expensive/higher quality filter from B+W or the like. To elaborate on why I chose "lens creep" for the cons section, the lens may both tilt and shift in your camera bag if you do not tighten the lock knobs beforehand. This depends on the bag.Overall, I'm quite satisfied and excited to keep learning this lens and exploiting it to its full potential.
