The Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens utilizes an anti-shake compensation function, with a 13.8 times zoom ratio. This lens's Hybrid Optical Stabilizer provides not only an anti-shake function for the camera body, but also compensates for image shaking in the view finder as the Optical Stabilizer is built in to the lens.

Four special low dispersion glass elements and three aspherical lens elements, results in excellent image quality throughout the entire zoom range. With a minimum focusing distance of 17.7" at all focal lengths and a maximum magnification of 1:3.4 reproduction ratio, this wide-range zoom is great for close-up photography as well as for telephoto shooting.

I recently bought it to replace my Sigma 17-70mm and Canon 55-250mm IS lenses. This 18-250mm is very much like the 17-70mm in overall quality. It is of high quality! I've used it mostly so far for night photography and also for fast action, and wildlife (crocodiles in Jamaica; can't trust that ear to ear smile of theirs). All the pictures I shot with it were hand held and the OS system performed flawlessly. I DID brace myself against columns, trees, etc... when necessary for some night shots. So I was relatively stable, though not 100%. The OS took care of the rest and my exposures were blurr-free. I use it on my EOS 40D and it complements very well the speed and low light capabilities of the camera. It is fast and quiet. The zoom action is quite precise though smoothness varies over the range... understandable for a 13.9:1 zoom range! It shows virtually no play when fully extended. Also, I've checked its macro ability, and found it to be approx. 1:2.5, far better than Sigma's very conservative spec. Very highly recommended!!!!

I wanted a "walk around" lens for when I'm just out doing some shooting of whatever. I have a few L series lenses, but they are heavy and big. This lens does not have lens creep, which is one of my biggest issues. It is heavy too, and in low light it does not do well at all. But overall for the price, its a good deal and you don't have to change lenses all the time. The focal range is right on. Wish it were a little lighter, and a little better with low light, even if it were a little more cost wise. It would be worth it.
But as for an every day lens, it does the job.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Canon Cameras:

The range on the zoom is unbelievable, I'm now unshackled from my camera bag when I go hiking. Auto focus is quite fast and accurate in all but the darkest lighting. Macro photos are adequate with auto focus. Go to manual focus and it opens up a brand new world.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Canon Cameras:

Bought this to replace EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens which the school kids broke :( For about [$] less, got a great lens which also has the capability of both zooming in for close shots and also taking team pictures. Used the camera to take pics at an outdoor soccer game on a sunny day and the pics were comparable to the ones I took last year w/ the lens replaced. I also took indoor pics of a volleyball game in a poorly lit gym. The performance indoor was not as good as the lens it replaced but it was acceptable. Again, for [$] less you get similar image quality (definitely outdoors in well lit situations) but slightly poorer quality in poorly lit indoor gym. However, you gain the functionality of taking both zoom and wider angle shots in one lens. I think it's worth the purchase.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Canon Cameras:

This lens has replaced my 17-70mm Sigma and my Canon 55-250mm. This is one lens that does it all (within reason). I primarily do nature photography. Yes, there is a compromise in any zoom lens. But in my opinion, there is more of a compromise when an opportunity presents itself and you don't have the necessary lens with you or mounted. Lens performs well and the OS feature is great. As for cons. Lens is a bit on the slow side, but then it doesn't cost a zillion dollars. A bit soft at full zoom, but aren't they all. And finally, unless you are using a camera body that allows for "AF Micro adjustment", I wouldn't purchase this lens without trying it first. All my Sigma lens have had "front focus" issues. That is totally correctable with Micro Adjustment feature. Personally I am satisfied with this lens.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Canon Cameras:

I love the versatility of having this ONE lens on the camera but recently got an "error 99" code on my camera with it. (I have taken it on two trips and shot about 2500 pictures with it) I was in Europe and the lens stopped functioning properly on aperture settings greater than f5.6. Images were varying degrees of being over exposed and were totally washed out on aperture setting like 20 or 22! Back home I sent it to the Manufacturers rep. and the lens needed to have a component replaced which cost $200.00 to ship and fix. -Thankfully, I had another back up lens with me for my 5 week trip but it was disappointing carrying around a heavy lens that didn't work. Hopefully it works properly from here on. I bought it for [$], which is higher than it is priced now.

I am very new to the whole photography thing. I inherited a Canon EOS 20D from my father. I bought this lens to be a "cheap" all around lens.Well was I wrong there is nothing cheap about it other then price. I have taken about 200 photos with it and only had 1 bad one(which was my fault). I really love it. I even ordered the 70-300 from Sigma too.

I use the lens with my Canon 7D for filming documentary-type work. I was hesitant at first about using a lens from another company, but the quality of the lens is pretty satisfactory. This is my first lens so it's really a starter lens for me. I had great help at B&H when deciding which lens to purchase and was able to test out the lens with my camera, so that was definitely a plus. I'm really happy with my purchase.

took a while to get use to it, but find I can now handle it much better.
I like the Zoom range which, I know will become useful in the future.
I did not expect it to be as heavy as it is, keeping in mind I have never used a Zoom lens like this before. Would recommend it to other non professional photographers like me.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Canon Cameras:

I bought a copy of this lens at the end of 2009 and it has gone to Toronto for service twice since that time. So far, the Canadian representative has not agreed to give me a new replacement for it, so we shall see how long the second repair will last. The problems were as follows: burnt stepper motor the first time and the diaphram blades the second time. As you have seen from the title of my review, it is a great lens (when it works) assuming you know what you are buying. Superzoom lenses come with a number of compromises and this one is no exception to the rule. However, if I was a pro shooter, I'd have converted this lens into a mug already. Imagine the lens dying out on you during an important photoshoot and not once but twice, definitely not a keeper. Onto the good side of things, it is a good lens in the sense that you can do away with most lenses and have a single lens to go around and shoot pictures. However, durability and reliability are not the strong points of this unit, so choose wisely. OTOH, I've had no issues whatsoever with the 18-200mm from Sigma, so I assume something did not exactly work as planned for this lens model...

Paired with my new Canon 60D (and previously with my 40D) this is a really handy, walk-around, everyday lens. My only (small) criticism is that it is a little bit "sticky" on the zoom. This is my 2nd lens (first one was stolen along with my 40D) & the first one wasn't quite as stiff feeling, so hopefully it will relax a little with more use.

For the price this lens preforms as advertised. Considering that there is nothing comparabile in a better quality out there, it will do the job. As stated by other reviewers, it is a dark lens. You need alot of light to work with this lens. I always make sure I use the lens outdoors or with a strong flash indoors.

This is an excellent lens at a good price. I have traditionally only used different Canon lens, however this had a better zoom at a much lower price point. Thouth I have only had it for a couple of weeks, I recommend the lens.

The absolute best investment ever. Never having to take a time-out to switch lenses, is just unbelievable. I took shots of a distant landscape and then just seconds after, shots of the bird flying right infront of me!

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Canon Cameras:

I purchased this for an upcoming backpacking/hiking trip. I appreciated the "all in one lense" with the varied zoom. While I did get some good images the autofocus was slow when following movement. And the sharpness was not up to my standards. That being said, I got some really good pictures of still objects and some nature photos. For a general lens for travel and if you aren't completely worried about sharpness of image especially in low light or action, then maybe this lense will work great for you. I personally wasn't completely satisfied with the image quality so I returned it. Instead I have the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 wide angle lens and Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS.

Great lens for the price. I love being able to just take one lens and not my whole pack, especially while hiking. It has an 18mm for wide angle and goes all the way to 250mm for telephoto. Looking to purchase another for my daughter.

My family likes skiing. The lens are great in a sunny day. It works great for steady targets. However, aiming a moving skier without sun light, the photos are very dark.I am not an expert, but I read all the comments before spending so much money. The comments are made under different points of view and different interest.
I had another lens Sigma 50-200 that cost about $150 they take similar pictures for one third of the cost.
