  • For Sony Cameras

The Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens utilizes an anti-shake compensation function, with a 13.8 times zoom ratio. This lens's Hybrid Optical Stabilizer provides not only an anti-shake function for the camera body, but also compensates for image shaking in the view finder as the Optical Stabilizer is built in to the lens.

Four special low dispersion glass elements and three aspherical lens elements, results in excellent image quality throughout the entire zoom range. With a minimum focusing distance of 17.7" at all focal lengths and a maximum magnification of 1:3.4 reproduction ratio, this wide-range zoom is great for close-up photography as well as for telephoto shooting.

Note! This lens is only for APS-C / DX sensors (not full frame).

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Sony Cameras:

Had been looking for a better lens for my A55 Sony.Wanted something in an all in one lens. We've only had it for a couple of weeks. My wife and I think it's great. She took some amazing shots at sunset. I had Minolta lens from my 35mm camera. The colours are more vibrant, sharp. My wife had it in the car while we were driving on the highway, and she got great shots, everything clear. I would buy this lens again. And for people that are from Canada, BandH was great to deal with. No problems no issues, arrived on time, the price they quoted was the price at the door + the exchange rate.

I have a condo right next to Donald Trump's golf
course. Rancho Palos Verdes, CA when my 18-250 lens came I tried it out pulled Trump's Water Fall
right up close I was about 200 yards away. The picture looks great! I don't have any problems
        or negatives with the Lens.

Combined with my a77 it has been able to handle some pretty low light conditions that I thought would too tough for it. Looks like I found a replacement of my Minolta 28-135mm.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Sony Cameras:

Good range of focal, but the lense is soft over 200mm.
CA is well controlling but visible over 200mm at f6.3.
The best aperture over 200mm is around F9 at f13.
        Speed focus is excellent.

Optical stabilizer is good but not the best I've seen.

DON'T BUY this lense for wildlife and animals because the lense is too soft for good detail over 180 mm and/or in the wood in lowlight.

BUY this lense for vacation if you don't want many lenses. Good Jak of all trade.
If you want the best photo take one 70-300mm lense and one 18-135mm this is the best compromise for nice photos and no more lenses.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Sony Cameras:

This is an update to my early review from 07/2011; I'm an extreme photo enthusiast/semi-pro photographer, for more than twenty years; I got this glass based on the reviews and price over the Sony brand for my Alpha 550 body; however, I recently added the Alpha 77 to my bag and discovered this lens was not compatible; I went to my local camera shop thinking it may be operator error on my part, since the Alpha 77 was new to me and discover it was definitely the lens; the lens would intermittently fail to focus; I came back here to see if anyone else had similar issues and viola! I discovered it's a known issue and the lens had to be reprogrammed for the Alpha 77; I contacted Sigma and they told me to send it in with my warranty and sales info and they would get it repaired/reprogrammed! I asked Sigma to put a rush on it, due to a upcoming photo shoot for my son's high school graduation; I can't say enough about Sigma process and customer service; first you don't need a RMA before you return your lens; just a copy of the warranty and a sales receipt; second and most importantly they kept me informed on my lens status and turned around in three days! I shipped to Monday and they shipped it back to me on Friday the same week! From top to bottom the process was as smooth as silk! Sigma customer service is outstanding! I am a true believer in Sigma! The 18-250mm lens is quiet and the results are outstanding; I gave up my 70-300mm lens because of this lens; the Sigma 18-250mm lens is a must have in every photographers' tool kit; and with Sigma's excellent customer service and price the choice is a no brainer

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Sony Cameras:

Nice big bright lens that's built like a tank. The zoom ring is a bit tight through a portion of its range, but it sure isn't sloppy either. The auto-focus is fast and accurate (mostly) I've noticed that at FL greater than 200mm the focus is hit or miss if the field is crowded, such as a bird in a tree. I'd really give it 4 1/2 stars overall. There's a warning for users with α65 & α77 cameras though, beware. The initial stock of these (and many other Sigma lenses) have defective firmware in them that prevents the auto-focus from working at all. I bought the lens on Thanksgiving because B&H had a $50 off sale. The auto-focus didn't work. I found out through blogs that the firmware was defective. After a couple go-rounds with B&H service who didn't understand the problem and just replaced it with another defective lens, I finally got a copy with the updated firmware. This whole procees took about three months! If you plan to use this lens with one of those cameras, make sure you have one with the update.

I use it for outdoor shots, landscape, moon, birds. I was impressed by auto focus performance, fast and quiet. What surprised me even more - in lens image stabilization . I took pictures of full moon with hand held camera ( Sony a580) and it came up nice and sharp. What it does compare to in camera image stabilization - you actually see the steady image in viewfinder. Great job. I was very skeptical regarding this future of the lens. Well, not any more. Very good walk around lens. I will highly recommend it to everyone.

I received this lens recently after reviewing lots of other's comments and deciding this was the one for me. You are all right! This is a perfect, one-lens-does-all kind of lens to have with you at all times. The performance is great so far, but I agree, a bit stiff. I am sure using it more will change that. The quality of the shots is great. I would recommend this lens as a great buy. You won't be sorry you bought it. The weight goes with quality and durability so I don't mind it. I have only used this so far in indoor and outdoor, low-light conditions and it works well.

Except that it a bit heavy it does everything I expected. One lens for close and telephoto was my goal. Stabilization was not required because the camera has it but the lens on/off is far more convenient so that is the system I use. Fast focus and sharp images for my outdoor fishing photos. Taking it to Canada tomorrow and hoping the Alpha 55 does both movies and stills so one camera is all I need.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Sony Cameras:

I bought this lens because of its price, zoom and wide angle capability.
For a hobbyist I do not see any discolour or aberration in portraits and nature pictures.
I recommend it to anyone who does not know what their eventual need is. It is a good general purpose lens to experiment with.
And I like its manual focus ring with the position of the AF-M switch.
Minimum focus is large for my needs, but what do you expect from an under $500 zoom lens.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Sony Cameras:

I used the lens to replace my 18-55 sony stock lens. the zoom range farther and the clarity is better in general. Great if you want to shoot mostly in 18mm and occasional telephotos with auto focus. The Optical stabilizer is better than I expected since I got some clear photo shots in a children's jump house. The lens is heavy and tiring to carry it. Not a great portrait since the bokeh is decent but the focal area doesn't shine in the photo like my 35mm prime lens. Overall good lens that does everything but need to shred some ounces.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Sony Cameras:

I was originally afraid this lens would have trouble with the Sony A33 and A55 cameras because of the compatibility issue I had been reading online about. I was relieved once I received the package and saw that there was the sticker specifically stating that it is compatible with the A33 and A55 cameras, so fortunately B&H has the new batch of lenses from Sigma.

I have owned this lens for a few weeks now and it has completely replaced my kit lens. I was surprised at how hefty it was initially but now that I am used to the balance I really like it. The zoom range is really great, AF speed is very fast and silent, and the IS lets me take great shots at full zoom. Build quality is very good; the lens feels very sturdy and has a nice rubberized coating. The zoom lock is very convenient as well. I have no complaints.

Comments about Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens For Sony Cameras:

I have been really enjoying this lens since getting it. It is a bit on the heavy side and it somewhat overpowers my a33 (SLT) camera body LOL - but it works great. The range is fantastic, and while I have not done actual tests, I see no immediate quality issues on either side of spectrum, but I am sure that if you looked hard there would be some. Color reproduction is AWESOME, better IMO than the kit lens.

While I do not have zoom creep problems now - I expect this to happen in the future; lens elements are pretty heavy in there and I wish Sigma had a zoom lock at any focal length.

Taking some cool vacations soon, I am happy to take this lens with me everywhere! Bokeh is nice but it is a little harsh, IMO.

I wanted a lens i could just put on and be my do all lens. No lens does everything but this has been a great lens for me. I love just taking off and walking in the woods, one lens.
                Very quiet HSM lens.
                Focus is fast and accurate.
The in lens image stabilization is fantastic.
