I am going to go against other reviewers on this product.

This is a TERRIBLY designed bag. TERRIBLE. It is NOT suitable for all photographers. However I have still given it 4 stars, as I believe all it takes to improve the product is to increase its length and height by 1cm. Allow me to explain:

In my opinion, the fit of this bag is excessively tight.

The best analogy I can use is trying to pack a Canon L lens or any other electronic product back into its original packaging and box. If you don't get it exactly right, you have difficulty closing the box, or the box gets really bloated or puffy. This is what it feels like when you try and pack this tripod in this case.

When using it with the kit ballhead, you have to perfectly compact the tripod into the "travel" configuration, and the tripod has to be placed a certain angle into the bag to get it to fit. Otherwise you'll just be struggling to get the zips to zip up. Even when you do it perfectly, the zip still takes some effort to close, and you will get the ballhead bulging out of the bag like a lump due to the tightness of the fit. Note that the tripod will not fit in the bag in any other configuration - i.e. you cannot store the tripod in the non reversed legs closed state (GT1541T users will know what I mean).

Now this is all fine and good if you are in your house packing for a trip and have time to mess around with it, but when you are on holidays and want to pack up your gear the last thing you want is to try and struggle getting your tripod back in the bag and leaving yourself open as a mugging target.

All it would have taken to make this a perfect protect was for Gitzo designers to adopt a more pragmatic approach and add about 1cm more in length and width. I reject any counter argument that this will increase the size of the bag making it harder to put into luggage - the bag is not a hard case, it will compress if there is excess space inside it.

The case offers good protection due to the padded neoprene material. It isn't as well padded as a dedicated padded bag, so don't go around dropping it constantly, but it takes bumps very well.

The various strap options and the side pockets are also very handy.

The Bag is simply too short.I have the smallest available [@] Ballhead and it doesn't even come close to fitting. It is absolutely useless having a tripod bag that wont fit the ballhead inside.I agree that the quality of the bag is very good but that is entirely irrelevant when the bag simply does not do what it is intended for.Not recommended.

Comments about Gitzo GC1201T Traveler Bag:

For my Ocean Traveller tripod it fits perfectly, but only with the standard mini ball head the tripod comes with. I tried it with my other small Gitzo QR head and it wont fit.So perfect for the standard tripod it is intended for.

Comments about Gitzo GC1201T Traveler Bag:

I got this to transport/house/protect my GT 1541 Gitzo tripod with a small RRS Ball Head (BH25) mounted. Flop the RRS clamp over to the side position, then fold the tripod to it's travel configuration and it all fits like a glove while protecting the goods. Even has a small outside pocket for that wrench you never remember 'til it's too late! On top of all that, it's a well made, classy looking piece of gear and not well suited to the dressing down, pretend I'm not taking pictures mind set. The strap adjustment system simply rolls extra strap into a roll and secures it with Velcro. The bag has two tie down loops on one side and it has a solid "C" clamp with closure protection at the top end of the carry strap.

I bought this bag to cover a Gitzo GIGT1544T with a Markins head. The bag is a perfect fit and provides nice protection when packing the tripod in a checked duffel. This bag is light weight protection, stylish and has a nice shoulder strap for field use. Good value, too.

Comments about Gitzo GC1201T Traveler Bag:

Following the purchase of a Gitzo 1542 traveller tripod and reading the reviews of the matching Gitzo tripod bag I purchased the GC1201t bag to carry the tripod on my travels. I also purchased a Markins Q3 ballhead due it's size and load capacity and that the ballhead could remain attached to the tripod while folded as a number of reviews had confirmed. Unfortunately the GC1201 bag is not long enough to house the folded tripod with the Q3 ballhead connected. However the quality bag construction is very good and the shoulder strap makes light work of carrying the Gitzo 1542t tripod around.

This bag fits like a glove on my Gitzo GT1541T tripod with Markins Q3 Traveler head (with lever release). Just fold the legs up, throw it in the bag, and zip the bag up - it's just what you need, and nothing you don't. Fits inside luggage and provides adequate protection for tripod and head. Easily straps to the bottom of my Timbuk2 camera bag. Shoulder strap doubles as carrying handle when it's adjusted to it's shortest length. Includes small accessory pocket on outside of bag, and ID pocket inside the bag. Shipping was fast and package was very well protected.

Comments about Gitzo GC1201T Traveler Bag:

I bought this for my GC1541T with Markins Q-3 head. It fits perfectly. That's because I found out you MUST buy the Traveller version of the Q-3. It's designed to work on that tripod.

Recently, a friend bought a 1542T and the same bag. It does not fit. The column is longer on the 1542T and when folded, is the same length as the legs, which leaves about one inch extra in the bag. Unless your head is one inch high, it's not going to fit.

Looking at the Gizo site today, I see they no longer offer this bag.

So if you're going to buy the GC1542T, don't get this bag unless you want to take the head off and and use it just for the legs.

Comments about Gitzo GC1201T Traveler Bag:

I was reluctant to purchase this bag due to the fact that some reviewers stated the bag was only large enough to contain the GT1451T tripod with small ballhead and legs in fully collapsed position. My tripod has an Arca-Swiss P0 with RRS B2-40LR. Overall length about 17", but the legs are about 1/2" from completely folding down. I had doubts, but was pleasantly supprised when it fit in just fine. One leg bulges along the zipper line, but since this area is neophrene it stretches but still gives a nice fit.
Quality is top notch, with attachment loops and hook for a backpack. Strap fits well in fully extended position, but for large bodies this may be a problem.

As a minimalist who purchases quality products this bag meets most of my goals:
                                1) No larger than absolutely necessary.
                                2) Well made.
                                3) Weight (1#) is as advertised, but seems disproportionate to my GT-1541T (2.1#). With my RRS Ultra-light BH-25 (.5#) total weight is 3.6#.
                                4) Not discrete- The Gitzo name doesn't need to promote itself. I'd prefer a plain bag... it's not gaudy but it clearly declares itself Gitzo.

This bag deserves 5 stars. It's weight & bag logos are clearly revealed in the specs & pics, so it would be unfair for me to ding them.

Comments about Gitzo GC1201T Traveler Bag:

This bag snugly holds my tripod with the ballhead attached & provides the protection I require! I like that the tripod does not move around in the bag while I'm walking. It's as if the whole thing is one unit. There is no problem zipping the bag even though the fit is snug with the ballhead attached. The zippered, outside pocket is handy-not too big nor too small and not in the way.

My boyfriend & I recently took this rig on an 8 day trip to San Francisco and it worked great.

Cons: The shoulder strap is not detachable and is not padded. There is no hand grip.

                                Wish List for this bag:
a padded shoulder strap that is detachable
                                and
                                a padded hand grip.

We rigged a padded shoulder strap from another of our various bags, though, and it worked fine.

                                Good value for the money.

I bought this bag for a Gitzo Travler tripod to help protect it while traveling. I was plesently surprized that it also held my Gitzo Travler monopod in addition to the tripod. It has a very comfortable shoulder strap, and the overall quality is excellent, including a heavy duty strong zipper. It has an exterior zippered compartment that is usefull to hold your gitzo tools that come along with the tripod as well as keys, cards, etc. keeping them within easy reach.

Comments about Gitzo GC1201T Traveler Bag:

I bought this not too long ago and did not yet have too many chances to use this in the field. But I wanted to comment on the fit as it seems to cause some controversy. So, FWIW - the fit with a Markins Q3 Traveler head which I own (outstanding product, BTW) is excellent. It is not loose - but it is also not so tight as to require excessive attention to positioning the tripod/head in the bag "just so". I would say it fits like a glove, and I think it is a good thing.

Comments about Gitzo GC1201T Traveler Bag:

While I've owned the Traveler tripod for some time, it wasn't until recently that I decided to acquire the Traveler Bag. Truth is, it always seemed a bit costly. A couple of weeks ago, however, I decided to buy it and I'm pleased that I did. The bag is nicely constructed from high quality materials and an ideal complement to the costly tripod. It fits like a glove, allowing the tripod to be stored in a ready-to-use configuration with ballhead up (as opposed to with legs inverted and ballhead in between). It's got a thoughtful strap design and a useful pocket, as well. A worthwhile investment.

This tripod bag is excellent for my travel tripod and fits it just perfectly. My only complaint would be that it is too snug a fit for both the tripod and a quick-release plate on top of it and the pocket on the bag is a bit small.
