The Gitzo GT3340L Aluminum Tripod is their classic Series 3 aluminum offering, with 32mm maximum diameter tubing to provide rock-solid support with any SLR camera and any 300mm lens (including a 300mm f/2.8 monster). It is delivered with a rapid-style center column, as well as a "Ground Level Set" which allows use at extremely low heights without the column in place. Fit and finish are what you should expect from the industry's top brand; the exacting nature of the movements is a delight.
This model, with 4 sections, provides a 'working height' (legs deployed, column retracted) that's appropriate for the majority of users to have the camera right at eye level, and when it is collapsed it will still fit comfortably upon the outside of an average consumer backpack.
The GT3340L utilizes Gitzo's improved 1.2mm thick aluminum tubing, which provides a high maximum load capacity and outstanding torsional rigidity while still reducing the weight 30% from previous Gitzo aluminum models.

Comments about Gitzo GT3340L 4-Section Aluminum Tripod Legs:
Solid platform for my larger lenses like the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 USM IS II and a solid plate plus a 7D w/grip.
Your choice of head is important. B& H offers amazing choices and service.
Please note this is a HEAVY tripod for those who need exceptional stability.

Comments about Gitzo GT3340L 4-Section Aluminum Tripod Legs:
It provides very good stability but not good portability. Once I over twisted a lock and it miss placed the plastic anti rotation plate inside leg section. Then I had to disassemble that leg section and reassemble. So, don't be overwhelmed by the name Gitzo, nothing is perfect in this world.

Comments about Gitzo GT3340L 4-Section Aluminum Tripod Legs:
This tripod is great for tall people. I'm 6'3" and with my ball head and camera mounted it is comfortably at eye level without the center column extended.
It's also very sturdy, none of the 'wobble' you see on the legs of a lot of carbon fiber tripods.
If you remove the center column this tripod can get very low to the ground.
My only complaints would be that at 7 pounds it is a bit on the heavy side (but very sturdy if you don't mind the weight). Removing the center column can be a bit tricky too.
