Ideal for the constant traveler, the PXC 450 headphones from Sennheiser provide high-quality sound and active noise cancellation that reduces up to 90% of ambient noise. The patented Duofol diaphragm technology produces clear, crisp sound with a wide frequency response. The thickly padded earcups fit around the ear to naturally block out noise, and when combined with the NoiseGard 2.0 technology, provide a pure listening experience.
The headphones have a TalkThrough function that allows you to hear those around you without taking off the headphones. A built-in volume control makes it easy to make quick adjustments. The headphones operate on a single AAA battery for up to 16 hours, though a bypass mode is available that allows you to use the headphones without noise cancellation features, ensuring that a dead battery doesn't leave you stranded.
The single-sided cable helps to minimize tangles, and is detachable in case you want to use the noise cancellation features without listening to music. The cable has a standard 3.5mm plug, along with 1/4" and airplane adapters, letting you connect to MP3 players, CD players, home stereos, in-flight entertainment systems, and more. The headphones fold down for convenient storage in the included carrying case.

Excellent comfort, good quality sound, excellent noise cancellation, good quality construction, battery life "seems" to be good (2-3 hrs a day for a whole week now and noise cancellation still working - sorry don't have exact time), audio works without battery. The talk through feature was not an option that I was looking for - but now I am glad that I have this as it is very convenient to switch on/off when someone is trying to talk to you. Best of all, I can play my music loud with very little leakage coming out so I don't annoy anyone standing or sitting next to me, and likewise, I can hear my music really well in a noisy room.

I spend between 8 and 40 hours on a plane every month and have for 5 years used two sets of noise canceling headphones that together cost less than the 450. I also drive a noisy-ish diesel motor vehicle and on long trips I use noise canceling earphones while listening to audio books. After 5 years use the cheaper set of phones broke and I lost my second pair so I thought I would invest in a quality replacement. Everything about the 450 work is much better than the cheaper phones except the sound suppression. I like the way the 450s look, the way they fold up to a compact pack, their controls, and the talk thru feature. They seem robust enough to take the sort of treatment that happens on planes and cars, and they are very comfortable to wear. Unfortunately they simply do suppress enough sound in a noisy situation like planes, and the sound transmission at times sounds to me somewhat muddy.I don't think the 450s represent value for money and despite their positive features would not recommend them over other phones that are half their price.

Comments about Sennheiser PXC 450 Around-Ear Noise-Cancelling Headphones:
If I would be a frequent flyer I might stick with it, but since I was looking for a headphone that produces beautiful and ACCURATE music/sound I went for the Sennheiser HD380 which exactly as this one, but without the noise cancelation. Sennheiser though gives you and gives you serious products, including the one I am reviewing right now here the PXC 450, and they added a few useful buttons to control the voice cancelation. Although the On-Off switch is somewhat hidden, there are is still a button to press while you want the cancelation to be off while you are actually having the headphone on your head. For me this was too bulky and I think that Bose is still doing better with voice cancelation. But if you have some not such good experience with Bose, then this is your next bet. Although this is bulky, but it feels so good on your ear. Well, not ON your ear, it's well built so it doesn't touch your ear.

Comments about Sennheiser PXC 450 Around-Ear Noise-Cancelling Headphones:
I bought these to replace an old pair of Bose QC 2 that I lost and used them on a recent trip from Cleveland to the west coast and back. They work as adverstised and noise cancelling is as good or better than the Bose. I like over the ear headphones better than on ear ones. What make the PXC 450s stand out is the talk through function which works great, the volume control, and the detachable cord. I also think they fold a little smaller than the Bose but not enough to make a difference. I would definitely buy them again if I lost them tomorrow.

I just flew on a 8 hour flight. Maybe I'm asking too much, but it is still noisy. It does reduce a lot of the noise but to me it is still loud... & I have hearing loss. I then put in foam earplugs and they reduced more noise than this product does. They are 3 bucks for about 10 of them.
In addition they are not comfortable to wear.
In an office environment with A/C noise they work great, in a plane they are a huge disappointment.

Comments about Sennheiser PXC 450 Around-Ear Noise-Cancelling Headphones:
The PXC 450 does an admirable job of noise canceling and delivering great audio quality. The fit and finish is terrific and the headphones are very comfortable. I use it at my office on a daily basis to wipe out ambient white noise as well as when I travel by plane.
Highly recommend these phones.

Comments about Sennheiser PXC 450 Around-Ear Noise-Cancelling Headphones:
These are my very first noise-cancelling headphones and honestly I expected a bit more of this technology. But ok, it works mostly for low buzzin noises, like engine noise while traveling. The sound is very good although a little flat when noise cancelling is on. I love the talk through function. But best of all is the superb quality of sound when noise cancelling is off. The headphones ale also very comfortable. Good for long flights or home, when one wants to enjoy fantastic sound quality.

Well what can i say the headphones are good quality and the sound is good. But since i come from having the beats by dre studio headphones i was kinda expecting a little bit more from the sound quality. For me they sound to flat and not that loud enough. The noise canceling is really good better than the studios for sure but bass and trebble wise their laking alot.If you listen to Rock,Heavy Metal,Rap or electronic music(trance, house, drum&bass like i do these are not for you.Go with the beats by dre studio.I bought these because of the reviews and because the beats that i had one speaker stop working and wanted to try something new.!!I guess their going back to shelfs!!

Comments about Sennheiser PXC 450 Around-Ear Noise-Cancelling Headphones:
These headphones sound wonderful. They are nice and big and will fit over my big ears. The noise-cancelling is good but not great. The sound is terrific. The battery life could stand to be longer, but you can switch to bypass mode which turns off the noise cancelling and does not require any batteries. That is a plus if the battery dies. The talk through function is really handy on flights, because you don't have to remove the headphones to talk to the flight attendant. Highly recommended.

Seems well built. Worked well in tests at home. Will take it on long flight soon and then update this review and perhaps give it 5 stars. Seems to be in the Bose quality range at a slightly lower price. I have been happy with PXC 250 that I've owned for a few years now, so this should be better.
Be careful how you disconnect the cord, it goes sideways. Bulky.

I was disappointed when using the headphones in active mode as there was a constant 'sonic flutter' in the right ear. I should have done more homework as I've read that the PXC 450's don't perform well in relatively silent environments. I have RMA'd them.
