Product Highlights
  • Supports 4.4 lbs (2kg)

The Slik Sprint Pro II is a flyweight class tripod specifically configured for travel concerns, meant for use with very small SLR systems or with any form of point and shoot camera.  It has 20mm diameter upper leg segments, a quite practical 52" (132cm) working weight, and a collapsed size of just 18.5" (47cm).  This is a tripod right at home on a backpack or on your shoulder (unpadded case with shoulder strap included), weighing only 2.42 lbs (1.1kg).

The Sprint series was designed to maximize your propensity to actually carry and use your tripod on vacation, without costing a ton.  It is fast to put up and down, and will help make sharp images in the typical daylight conditions a traveler 'on holiday' can expect.

This particular version of the Sprint series has a 3-way pan/tilt head with quick release, for the photographer who prefers the exact and deliberate nature of a real pan/tilt head (as opposed to a faster, smaller, and less-exact ballhead).

Speed Release Lock levers allow for fast set up
3-Position leg locks allow for leg openings of independent angles
Angled rubber leg tips maximize traction to flat, hard surfaces (and also allow carry on to aircraft)
Foam covered upper leg sections ease handling in extreme weather conditions
True 3-way pan/tilt head, with each axis controlled by a distinct lock
Detachable 2-part center column and independent leg spread allows great minimum operating height
Maximum upper leg diameter of 20mm
Maximum Height 63.9" (162.2cm)
Maximum Height w/o Column Extended 52.0" (132.2cm)
Minimum Height 7.0" (17.7cm)

I bought this tripod to replace a lightweight Slik tripod that finally broke after more than 30 years of use. I own and use rock solid Gitzo and Bogen tripods which I love for their superb construction but they are simply too heavy for a lot of situations. I ordered this Slik tripod sight unseen and was a bit concerned it might be too flimsy or poorly constructed. It has far exceeded my expectations!

I wanted a tripod that would be easy to carry on hikes, but still be solid enough for a small/medium digital camera in nearly any situation. I also wanted enough height to avoid extending the center post frequently and I wanted leg spreading to allow for convenient macro work. This tripod does all of that exceedingly well and the build quality is excellent, especially for the price.

I chose the slightly heavier pan head over the ball head version of this tripod because I have yet to use a small ball head (the big ones are nice) that adjusts smoothly and easily. The pan head on this tripod is solid and smooth, especially for being so small. Again, it far exceeded my expectations.

I would not attempt to support a heavy camera with a long lens, or high magnification macro shots using this tripod but for nearly everything else I expect this will become my "go to" tripod.

      Totally satisfied.

I thought I really liked it, until the padding on one of the legs was gone missing only after using it for about 3 times! And it cost me $[$] in Australia!!! Very disappointed. I'm getting a Manfrotto from B&H instead and hopefully that treats me better.

We are going on a camping trip and I needed a tripod sturdy enough for my DSLR but light enough to carry in my pack. I am very pleaed with Slik's Sprint Pro II - have tested it out and it will do just what I need it to!

Comments about Slik Sprint Pro II 4-Section Tripod w/ 3-Way Panhead (Gunmetal):

I have only been shooting for a year and I initially bought a lousy tripod because a) I didn't know the difference or know what to look for and b) I wasn't going to buy a lot of fancy equipment until I was sure my new hobby would stick. Well, of course it did.
My cheap tripod jammed and rocked around like an old boat on a storym sea. Did a lot of research online and determined that this tripod was very well recommended and reviewed and right in my price range. It is fabulous. Solid as a rock. Easy to position and so light and portable I basically take it with me everywhere. I use it indoors in low light conditions and will use it for dawn and sunset shots this Summer. I learned my lesson. A workman is only as good as his tools and cheap tools won't do a good job. Buy it with confidence

I bought this for use with a Leupold Ventana 15x45x60 spotting scope. I wanted something that would go low enough for me to use on the bench at the range as well as for sitting height in the field for Elk hunting. My last requirement was for it to be light enough to carry in my pack. This fit my needs perfectly.

Comments about Slik Sprint Pro II 4-Section Tripod w/ 3-Way Panhead (Gunmetal):

I spent quite some time looking for an under-$150 travel tripod for my Nikon D5100 and 18-105mm plus 55-300mm lenses. I also occasionally take my Canon HV-20 HD camcorder. My main criterion was light weight, as I have gotten to the point where either I or my camera is going to stay home.

It turns out that there are cheap under-2 lb. tripods, but they are so limited there's no point carrying one, much less trusting your camera on it. There are sturdy ones at over 3 lbs., but I can really feel the extra weight. Carbon-fiber units cost twice my arbitrary cash limit, but exceed 3 lbs. The extra money gets extra weight capacity, which I can do without. This tripod weighs about 2 lbs. 4 oz.--a bit more than I'd have liked, but it securely holds my D5100 with my 55-300mm lens fully extended, at the end of a 68-mm long stack of extension tubes. (BTW: More than needed to get 1:1 macro images at 2 feet working distance!)

This unit is one of three similar Sprint Pro tripods B&H carries. One has a ballhead mount; the other two have 3-axis panheads, better for video panning but weighing a little more. These two seem to differ only in color: One is black (#611-863); this one, #611-865, is significantly cheaper and is painted in "Gunmetal", a gray hammertone finish that is quite retro-looking. I'd probably like a smooth black, preferably anodized, better--but a tripod needn't be a fashion statement, after all.

This tripod has a quality feel that belies its low price. The legs have 3 locks each to get a short collapsed length, but the unit is tall enough to often leave the lowest section unextended for even more stability and faster setup/stowage. Each leg has a fast yet solid clip lock to hold the leg at one of three angles. The leg tubes are grooved to keep the locks in line for ease of locking. At the widest angle setting, with the long section of the center column unscrewed (easily) to leave a short stub in the tripod, you get a tarantula-flat setup that gets your camera base only 7" above the ground for low-angle or macro work. I do appreciate my D5100's articulated LCD for this setup!

You can even invert the column to suspend the panhead UNDER the tripod for very low angles if you like; I haven't tried this yet. Just remember to place the "center column base stopper" (ridged plug) to protect the center column from slipping down and dropping your camera!

Fully extended and at the narrowest angles, the legs are tall enough so I rarely need to extend the center column; this gives a very solid feel. With the center column fully extended, you get, as expected, more (but not excessive) camera shake. But the camera is too high for me that way, so I seldom do that. I use a remote shutter release for most tripod shots anyway.

The panhead has two very short handles (hey, it's a travel tripod!) One smoothly controls the roll axis (horizontal-to-vertical camera orientation), the other is the conventional pan and tilt control. It is very convenient to control pan and tilt with one handle, but for video pans it can be a bit awkward to keep the tilt constant as you pan. Action is surprisingly smooth for a simple, lightweight head. The quick-release plate is very light and fast, yet is held solidly by its clamp.

At about half the price I was willing to pay, this is a fantastic deal. Its built-in 2-axis spirit level (small, but handy) and comfortable foam grips are extra quality touches. I wouldn't recommend this for a full-frame camera and huge lenses, but for midrange prosumer cameras, this is a great value.

Comments about Slik Sprint Pro II 4-Section Tripod w/ 3-Way Panhead (Gunmetal):

This is a great tripod for travel and backpacking. I would not spend a lot of $ on a carbon fiber tripod when you can get this one for just a fraction of the cost. Although there are many tripods in the [$] range, this comes in at the top. Slik is a respected japanese company that makes outstanding support systems. My last inexpensive Silk tripod lasted more than 30 years, of which I gave overseas to a impoverished youth photographer. This Sprint Pro II tripod is as qood quality or better. Very light, yet very sturdy. Only some plastic, but the main mechanisms are all aluminum. Great Tripod, Great Value.

Comments about Slik Sprint Pro II 4-Section Tripod w/ 3-Way Panhead (Gunmetal):

Not having a budget for the pricier tripods to take hiking I bought this one after reading the reviews. I am a casual hiker as well as just starting my exploration of nature photography. I wanted a small stable light tripod to take with me on hikes. I have a Nikon D5100 with the 18-200VR lens.

The tripod seems fairly stable with this combination. In trying it out in the house, I would stay away from extending the lowest extension of the legs. So far I have only taken it out on two excursions and it served the purpose and functioned well.

I do like the flexibility of being able to expand the legs out to get closer to the ground.

The center column does not have a hook to hang weight on to help with stability and I am seriously considering adding one myself, an easy addition.

Overall I am happy with the purchase and look forward to exploring HDR, long shutter times and other options this will allow.

I thought I really liked it, until the padding on one of the legs was gone missing only after using it for about 3 times! And it cost me $[$] in Australia!!! Very disappointed. I'm getting a Manfrotto from B&H instead and hopefully that treats me better.

I just used this tripod to photograph a waterfall. The 6 mile hike down the mountain and back up was no problem with this tripod. It's light and fits inside my backpack and yet just heavy enough for my digital Rebel DSLR.

Comments about Slik Sprint Pro II 4-Section Tripod w/ 3-Way Panhead (Gunmetal):

I had a very light flimsy tripod that broke. the good point of that tripod was it being small and light which made it easy to carry around. Now I got this Sprint pro by Slik to replace that and I was worried that It might be heavy or big or flimsy. But when I carried it around, I changed my mind..
It's still light, of course heavier than the previous one, but light enough to be easy to carry around. and it's strong. Not like a professional studio tripod, but It's good enough for outdoor photography.
If you're looking for something to carry around and use outdoors, or go hiking with it, I think this one is the best choice.

I really like this tripod. It is very lightweight and widely adjustable. Still sturdy enough for an average SLR.
It is 2kg rated which is close enough to my "worst case" configuration (Canon 60D with battery + 70-200 F4 + 2x extender + neck strap = 2106g). Easy reversibility of the central column is handy for macro shots taken close to the ground.

Comments about Slik Sprint Pro II 4-Section Tripod w/ 3-Way Panhead (Gunmetal):

Comments about Slik Sprint Pro II 4-Section Tripod w/ 3-Way Panhead (Gunmetal):

Great, compact tripod. It tilts, pans, and holds my D90 w/ 18-200mm lens just fine. My only complaint would be that the legs are a little flimsy. But for [$], it is awesome.
