The Slik Sprint Mini II GM Tripod is a flyweight class tripod specifically configured for travel concerns, meant for use with very small SLR systems or with any form of point and shoot camera.  It has 20mm diameter upper leg segments and is specialized for those who value compact folded dimensions and low weight above all other tripod concerns; you'll need to stoop down a bit to use it, or otherwise have a rotating/flip-out LCD screen (or right angle finder for your SLR).  This is a tripod right at home on a backpack or on your shoulder (unpadded case with shoulder strap included), weighing only 1.72 lb (780g).

The Sprint series was designed to maximize your propensity to actually carry and use your tripod on vacation, without costing a ton.  It can be raised and lowered quickly, and will help make sharp images in the typical daylight conditions a traveler 'on holiday' is expected to encounter.

This particular version of the Sprint series has Slik's SBH100DQ compact ballhead with quick release, for the photographer preferring speed in setup.

Speed Release Lock levers allow for fast set up
3-Position leg locks allow for leg openings of independent angles
Angled rubber leg tips maximize traction to flat, hard surfaces (and also allow carry on to aircraft)
Foam covered upper leg sections ease handling in extreme weather conditions
Compact ballhead with diminutive quick release plate
Detachable 2-part center column and independent leg spread allows great minimum operating height
Maximum upper leg diameter of 20mm

I intend to use this tripod on hikes with a Canon G11 camera. I haven't used it in the field yet, but used it at home with the G11 simulating conditions that might be encountered on a hike. The tripod performed exceeding well.

For a 1.7 pound tripod it is well constructed. The ball head, leg clamps and center column clamps hold well without slippage. The tripod can hold a Canon 5D with a 24-105 lens in the landscape position but is unstable in the portrait position. For the most part I concur with where plastic is used to minimize weight. The split center column is great when you need to get close to the ground. The foam pads around each of the legs are a nice touch when used in the cold and for protection of the tripod.

I would have liked for the tripod to get higher but wasn't willing to gain the extra weight. The articulated LCD screen on the G11 atones for the low tripod maximum height. Perhaps the quick release plate and the plate clamping lever on the ball head could have been made out of metal without much increase of weight. The screw on the quick release plate should have been designed to be secured to the camera without needing a coin or screw driver to firmly secure the plate to the camera in the field.

The best feature of this tripod is the size. I have had a very difficult time finding a good tripod under 15" that can be carried inside a backpack during traveling and hiking. This tripod is sturdy and of pretty good build quality, but not as heavy duty as it appears in the photos. All the leg segments are plastic except the top ones. My major complaint is the ballhead. I am not a big fan of ballheads as you run a risk of the camera falling forward if you ever loosen the head without holding onto the camera. A ballhead also makes it difficult to take panoramas or use the tripod for video. That being said, if the ballhead doesnt bother you, then this is a good purchase compared to the other options available.

Comments about Slik Sprint Mini II GM 4-Section Tripod w/ SBH-100DQ Ballhead (Gunmetal):

This was specifically purchased to support a Vortex Razor spotting scope at the range. I was looking for a tripod that had a low minimum height to make it easy to look through while sitting next to me on the shooting platform. I actually like everything about the tripod except the head due to an inability to be able to accurately lock it down when I have the Razor in the position I want; there's always some slack in the head that causes the Razor to drop when I try to lock it, thus making it necessary to compensate up before doing so. Yes, it's an inexpensive unit, but this isn't rocket science. Do I think the Razor is too big/heavy for it? No, I simply believe that the adjustments and head unit itself are not well engineered.

Using this for a spotting scope tripod and it works. Really like the fact that the center extension can be removed and the legs can lay out flat to get achieve a low stance when needed.

I'm a backcountry hunter that likes to keep things light and tight. This tripod keeps the weight down and compacts nice for travel. I am very pleased for the price I paid.

A note to B&H service: I was a little hesitant to order this from B&H as my first experience shopping with your company was sub-par. My first order sat in processing for way too long. although i go for the free shipping options, that should only affect how long it takes for the item to get to me from the store not how long it takes to process the order. however, on a kudos note: my second order seen here was a vast improvement and very timely, well done!

This is a nice, well made table top Tripod. It comes with a nylon storage bag. The Ballhead is serviceable and the leg extensions are easy to adjust and do not slip. The instruction manual shows how you can reverse the central column (I did not need to do this), but it just goes to show versatility of the tripod itself. I am using the tripod with a very light (16 oz) Spotting Scope. The combination is small enough to fit into my range bag and sturdy enough so the scope does not move.I would recommend this Tripod for use with a light scope or camera.

Comments about Slik Sprint Mini II GM 4-Section Tripod w/ SBH-100DQ Ballhead (Gunmetal):

I have a large Manfrotto which is very heavy to carry all day long, so I wanted a small but massive tripod. I was comparing all the small tripods at B&H and I found that this one is the smallest, lightest, but a very stable one with very strong ballhead. I can carry it in an average size sidepack. The ballhead is strong enough to keep my Nikon D200 with a 2.8/80-200 or the 2.8/28-70! ALthough obviously these are heavy weight and this tripod is not designed for these lenses, but it bears it. For average lenses it surely works in long the long run. The tripod is very well designed and comfortable. The only disadvantage is that the total height is not very tall, I always have to lean forward, but I knew that in advance and this is the price for that I can carry it in a small bag. As I compared it to other brands - in this price range - this is the best choice. I hope it will be durable.

I used this tripod for three months backpacking during bighorn sheep field studies in Idaho. While I don't have a ton of experience with other tripods, I can say this tripod provided a sturdy platform for the constantly utilized spotting scope. The adjustable leg length and angle allow for setups on steep and uneven terrain. For the weight it is hard to beat! I bought one for personal use and will be taking it to New Zealand for a hunting trip.

The tripod head plate attaches to the camera with a gnurled screw that doesn't secure well. Some plates have a nice finger-fastener, but this doesn't. I actually lost the plate the first time out in the woods.

The head can also barely support a DSLR with a kit zoom. Range of motion for rotation goes to 90 degrees, but not past, which is actually annoying on hills. The legs seem a nice weight and collapse to a backpackable size.

I used it a few times and I must say I am surprised by the robustness, quality of construction of this tripod. What I like above all is that when folded it fits easily into a small bag. I bought a Swiss Gear bag for $ 40 at Costco, my camera and tripod staying well inside the same bag. Awesome! The only gripe is that to lack a bit of stability when the four sections are deployed, but hey I then use the delay feature. For me it is the ideal tripod to do have.

Comments about Slik Sprint Mini II GM 4-Section Tripod w/ SBH-100DQ Ballhead (Gunmetal):

I got two(2) tripods: one that is heavy and another one that is light but "pliable" & unstable. Since I'm going to travel few months from now, I need a tripod that is small, easy to pack, light weight and sturdy that is why I bought this SLIK SPRINT MINI II TRIPOD.
When I got hold of the item,I was so happy because I was satisfied. My only comment is that
the plate of the ball head is small and it can carry only 2kgs. though it can carry my NIKON D7000 + 50-135mm TOKINA lens + SB600 flash unit. How I wish that SLIK will change the ball head to
something that can carry 4kgs with a bubble level.

Sturdy, lightweight compact backpacking tripod. Planned use is primarily with a spotting scope. Good value for the money. Just wish it had a larger threaded post to accept a larger fluid head.

this fits great in a backpack, which is what i wanted. i have a camelbak mule that holds this, my t2i, and an extra lens no problem. The center extension pole part unscrews if you want to lose a little more weight off it. mini ball head is great too.

This is my only tripod but i imagine the lack of height might bother some people to need a more heavy duty one. Im 6' and with the center extension pole it might come up to my shoulders, but i dont use it and dont care. I just wanted one that fit in my backpack. That said, i also prob wouldnt feel comfortable walking away from it fully extended, but thats not really an issue for me.

I used this tripod on my recent hike in the mountains and it performed very well. This mini tripod clearly does not have the stability of a full-sized tripod and in my opinion a shutter cable release is necessary if you want to insure a sharp picture from a still camera. Very cool how it is so stable yet so small when it is closed down. I had been using a monopod for many of my longer hikes and I think that the monopod will be replaced by this Sprint Mini II for a good number of my longer outings.

I bought this to go with my new Nikon to take travelling and use mainly in night photography. Tested it for the first time last night, it is very nice to have total movement and the ability to point the camera straight up for wonderful Milky Way pictures.

It is light and small which naturally sacrifices some sturdiness and you do have to be less than 6 foot tall to use it comfortably. I found it easiest to leave it short and sit on the ground.

Overall though, for the price and size this is an excellent compromise.
