The Slik Pro 340 BH is an all-metal tripod setup effective for lightweight travel duty with small SLR systems.  It has 27mm diameter upper leg segments and is rated for supporting 8.8 pounds of gear (4kg).

The feel of the 340's operations inspires professional confidence:  leg segments extend/collapse with precise motion and no lateral play, the locks are positive, and the stubby lever for the ballhead communicates its locked/unlocked position both by feel and by sight.

The 340's A.M.T. super titanium alloy legs make the tripod steady yet lighter than it appears, with a 40% greater strength/weight ratio than normal aluminum.

Speed Release Lock levers allow for fast set up
3-Position leg locks allow for leg openings of independent angles
Angled rubber leg tips maximize traction to flat, hard surfaces (and also allow carry on to aircraft)

I have just received this - perfect condition [...] and the tripod appears very well made- first rate construction for the legs and head. The tripod sets up quickly and it holds the smallish Pentax DSLR plus moderately heavy lens confidently. The legs/head feel very strong and the rating of 8.8 pounds appears conservative. I chose this tripod from among several good alternatives based on a variety of factors that collectively added up to the "sweet spot" of choices (for me):- Price (Of course! This price was near my max.)- Weight (wanted low 3 lbs. for travel/hiking)- Fold length (wanted low 20's inches for packing)- Two levels on the ball head - not on the legs - Padding on all three upper leg sections- Three leg angle positions (but two would be ok)- Wanted the load wt rating to be at least 2X of any conceived current or future dslr + lens wt. - A ball head is necessary for quicker set up. This is for stills, not video, and I rarely do a panorama, so the ball head is the best choice. - I liked Slik - already have U212 - good, strong!I was able to hit the above targets by NOT requiring:- Carbon Fiber (I will make the AMT alloys work well - end of story!)- Very tall tripod - I'm not that tall - mid-50's inches for max height will work fine- 3 leg sections - 4 sections helps reduce folded length, and it does not seem restrictive or unstable to use the 4 sections. - A large load wt. rating - don't need it for me.The tripod/head works fine, looks great, and it is exactly the right product for my needs. I plan to enjoy using it for many years. At this early stage, if there were cons I could think of, it might be that the tripod does not have the attributes that I did not require, that you might. Thanks.Glenn

This is my first tripod and ball head. I'm not a professional photographer and couldn't justify several hundred dollars on a tripod, but didn't want to throw money away buying something so cheap that it doesn't do the job. I read a lot of reviews and forum posts, and whenever someone asks what tripod is sturdy, light, and inexpensive, the answer is always that any tripod will only meet two of these criteria, not all three. However, I believe this tripod comes very close. It's not the lightest tripod out there, but for my usage, the difference between 2lb vs 3lb isn't that big a deal. It's sturdy enough for my G3 with 100-300mm lens. The price is reasonable. The weak point is the head. First, there's no friction control. If your hand slips while it's unlocked, your camera takes a hard dive. Second, mine has some play between the quick release receiver and plate. If I line up a shot holding the camera/lens, when I tighten the lever and let go the camera will droop. If I grab the bottom of the ball head and line the shot up that way, it stays put when I tighten and let go. However, that's not a convenient way to use it and tires your hand quickly. In the end, I picked up a Manfrotto 494RC2 ball head with friction control which works great in conjunction with this tripod. So the bottom line is that for about the same price as this Slik legs/head combo, you can buy the Slik 340 legs only plus a 494RC2. Wish I had known that at the onset, as it's unlikely I'll be able to sell the Slik ball head for anything close to what it cost me, not when someone can buy a superior Manfrotto for only a few dollars more. It's tough to decide the appropriate rating for this. I don't want to scare people away from the tripod legs, but in this case I'm reviewing the combo of legs plus head. If the Slik head was inferior but also a lot less expensive than the Manfrotto, I'd give it 3 stars. But since a better combo can be had for less than 8% more, I'm going to have to give it 2 stars and hope people read the review for my satisfaction with the legs.

Purchased this tripod for use with a Leupold spotting scope for backpacking and hunting. The tripod was better quality than I thought it would be but is still a little heavy for what I am using it for. Decided to keep it because I am happy with the quality so will carry an extra pound+.

        Comments about Slik Pro 340 BH 4-Section Tripod w/ SBH-200DQ Ballhead - Supports 8.8 lbs (4kg):

I have owned this tripod for three years. I am a semi-pro photographer but I do a lot of my work on extended trips in the backcountry. I needed something with professional features (can support an SLR, has a ballhead, levels) but also is light and compact enough that I can justify lugging it miles on my back. This tripod has fit the bill in all regards. Despite much abuse over hundreds of miles of backcountry hiking, being set up in the middle of streams and rivers, and being used in all types of weather it has stood the test of time. Only recommendation would be to glue the rubber feet to the legs if you plan to use in snow. Lost one that way and had to get SLIK send me a replacement, but haven't had a problem since gluing two years ago.

My son and I, who are avid amatuer birders, have both purchased this tripod. Myself first who wanted a discrete ball head motion for the camera. This ball head holds my Canon 100-400 Telephoto lens easily - never slips. My son has a Sigma 170-500 Telephoto lens and the same for him. It's a lightweight, extremely flexible tripod height wise as it extends to just about eye height (and I am 5' 11"), to very low if you remove the removable pipes. I've only done this as a test, not in the field and it was impressive. I thought the foam might eventually wear or tear and after 3 years, it has not budged. Same as the day I bought it. It's an incredibly durable and solid tripod for the money. You will not be disappointed.

After lugging my big tripod eight miles on the Appalatian Trail I knew I needed something lighter and this little gem just fits the bill. I have nothing but praises for this little tripod. It proved to be very stable with my Nikon D80 with all my lenses. Price was well within my budget. Ball head was positive, sturdy and compact, but takes some getting use to if you've never used one. Leg locks were positive with no slipping. Weight was less than half of what I had been carrying. This pod won't take the place of my big one but for hiking and such it sure was a load off my backpack.

                      Comments about Slik Pro 340 BH 4-Section Tripod w/ SBH-200DQ Ballhead - Supports 8.8 lbs (4kg):

I find the tripod sturdy, but still a little on the less than quality compared to previously owned models I've had that didn't cost me nearly as much. Seems they use more plastic parts than I would wish for for the leg clamps. Aside from that, the Tripod itself is good.

The ball head however, is much better than other companies offer with theirs, but I wouldn't recommend it but for light to mid-weight systems. Especially don't to heavy in the lens department.

I use a Nikon D80 with a battery pack on it with 2 batteries in it at all times. SB600 Flash and a Custom Brackets Pro-M series bracket. When you add all that with my 70-300mm lens, you're pushing what this is designed for. So for photographers who are just starting out and need their first ball head, depending on your camera and lens I'd say look for a model higher, otherwise it's great starter for anyone.

My main reason of purchase for me at the time, was budget as I'm like a lot on a tight one. It's working great for what I'm using it for, I plan to at least upgrade the head to handle my setup better but aside from that it's doing great.

I'd given it 5 stars had it a little bit better ball head, but it's still a good purchase. No complaints once so ever here!

This tripod is great choice for the traveling photographer - small enough to fit in a backpack or carry-on suitcase. Very well-built with pro features, my only complaint is how skinny the final leg section is - but otherwise a great buy.

Product is as advertised. Very sturdy and well made. The ball head is rock solid and easy to use. I would recommend this tripod for anyone who travels or can't justify spending $300+ on a tripod.

Gave this a test drive this past weekend when I went hiking along a very rocky trail. I carried it instead of putting it in a backpack and loved the light weight. I set it up on several boulders and adjusted the height quite a bit. I never had a ballhead before which took a little getting used to, but everything worked great. Not sure how stable this would be in windy conditions, but it is a perfect hiker's companion.

My husband bought this for me for Christmas and from the first time I used it I loved it. It's very sturdy and I can change the positions of the camera with ease. The shoe you attach the camera to is very easy it's 1, 2, 3. With my old tripods that was always a struggle to get the camera on to the tripod. I like to photograph birds and this tripod has allowed me to adjust the camera in all sorts of positions with no shake at all. I think this is a winner.

The bag is big enough to fit the alternate 3way head but is too large for the ballhead. I put 5 1/2 pounds on ball head with the tripod fully extended. The canon 7D with the 100-400 lens would not tip it over. I mounted the body to the ball head instead of the lens mount. The tripod can be knocked over if you bump it but it is completely solid for normal field use. The legs can be extended outward to produce a very low and very solid mount. The center post unscrews to allow the advertised low position. Not clear why you would need the optional center post

                                        Comments about Slik Pro 340 BH 4-Section Tripod w/ SBH-200DQ Ballhead - Supports 8.8 lbs (4kg):

I got my tripod just before the 4th of July and was planning on shooting a fireworks show...all of the pictures came out better then expected and had no trouble with the tripod...it is the perfect size for taking it hiking and the weight wasn't to bad
the ball head was a little smaller then the Manfrotto heads but the price was right...it took a little while getting use to the ball head but liked the one knob control...it had no problem holding all my gear and think the weight limit is a conservative estimate @ 8.8lbs...the only problem I can see with it is the maximum height if you are over 6 feet you might want to look else where...for the money it's a winner

                                          - Very compact and reasonable weight.
                                          - Nice range of use, in terms of low to high
                                          - Leveling Bubbles nicely positioned
                                          - Ball head works very well, even in portrait position.
                                          - Locking lever is well positioned and easy to use.
                                          - Sturdy

The only CON: The carry case supplied with the tripod is significantly larger than the folded tripod and has a short strap, basically useless for carrying.
