I am using this with a Nikon D300 with MB-D10 grip and a Nikon SB-910 flash. I mount the flash bracket on the right side so that I can flip it so the flash is above the camera in a "normal" portrait orientation (right side of camera and shutter release on top). This works very well and is extremely intuitive -- within a few minutes you will naturally flip the bracket and rotate the camera in one swift motion. The bracket does have some movement to it, but it's extremely sturdy and has proven to be durable. I think the construction and quality of materials is very solid and professional -- I have confidence it will last a long time.

This is the tall (T) model that elevates the flash above a pro or gripped body and it does that very well. It's still easy to bounce the flash and works well for large open areas where the ceiling is higher or non-existent (in which case you'd bounce off a wall or diffuse and go direct). I also use a Gary Fong Lightsphere and it works well together. Of course in a smaller space you could probably do without the bracket.

The folding option is fantastic and allows it to tuck nicely into my camera bag.

I have a RRS L-Plate installed on my MB-D10 and the CB bracket with anti-twist plate mount perfectly to the bottom of the RRS L-Plate. I have no problems holding the camera just as I would normally for portrait or landscape shots -- basically just ignore the bracket and hold the camera like you normally would. The foam grip is basically padding for the back of your right hand as you hold the camera. It's a very effective bracket.

All-in-all money well spent with no regrets.

      Very well made.
Solid construction. Snaps into place and folds flat for packing away.
Haven't used one of these in years so will have to build up my left arm/wrist. When holding the hand grip on the side of the camera the weight of the camera, cord and flash are all hanging to the side. Takes some extra strength to keep level.

Should have tried the Folding-S bracket

Comments about Custom Brackets Folding-T Flash Bracket:

This was my first experience with a flash bracket, and I should have ordered the Folding-S bracket, so take my review with a teaspoonful of salt. I tried the Folding-T Flash Bracket with a micro four thirds camera, the Olympus OM-D E-M1 and the Olympus FL-50R. The bracket is too big for this type of camera.

The Folding-T is well-made, relatively lightweight, and felt solid, but I fought with it. The whole thing is too cumbersome and unwieldy, and I don't believe my experience would have been much better even if I had instead bought the smaller, Folding-S bracket. As it is, I returned the Folding-T bracket, and I'm not going to purchase any other kind of flash bracket.

For me, using a flash bracket did not help me produce better photos, and it subtracted from my flash photography experience. That doesn't mean the Folding-T Flash Bracket isn't a good product. If you like using flash brackets, and you have a relatively large DSLR, you might be completely satisfied with this flash bracket.

Comments about Custom Brackets Folding-T Flash Bracket:

a follow up to the review I left previously entitled "Perfect."
At that time I had not used it but had a feeling it was going to work well. I worked with it for a gig this week and it is indeed the perfect bracket for me. A couple of the reasons...
The strobe head sitting higher off the body does give more pleasing results than my previous bracket. The anti-twist plates work as intended. I can screw it into the Black Rapid double harness and let it hang and it doesn't interfere with my movement. I didn't find that while hanging the bracket opened up into the portrait orientation as the click stops prevented that but it may over time as the click stop wears out. I have already purchased mini bungee cords that I attach to the top and bottom bracket and that keeps the bracket in the landscape orientation but also allows for me to change to the portrait orientation with the bungee still attached.
I never thought a bracket could make me happy but this one does!...I guess because I used hate working with brackets so much. Check out the previous review "Perfect" if you want to read more.

Comments about Custom Brackets Folding-T Flash Bracket:

honest disclosure first...I just received today and have yet to use on a job but I can tell this is going to work for me. The first thing I wanted in a bracket was for it to fold up. This bracket does that nicely and fits well in my Think Tank case. It is a bit bigger than my previous Stroboframe bracket which I had been using for years and although it did the job, I never really liked it. So even though it is bigger than the Stroboframe when in use, it folds up and takes up less space in the camera case when folded. I like the feel of this bracket right out of the box. The padded handle feels nice. The strobe sits higher than on my previous bracket which will only help out the lighting. I was concerned because previous reviewers mentioned that the bracket did not lock in positions. Well it does lock in the positions once it is unfolded (which is the landscape position). You have to push buttons to fold it back up. It does not lock in the portrait position but it does have a tension indent which I believe will hold it in position while walking around but it may wear out over time. It comes with a couple of anti-twist plates to keep the flash from twisting which is great and I purchased the additional anti-twist plate for the camera body. I highly recommend this as my body was always twisting on the previous bracket and it is kind of annoying. I like that it has holes drilled for the addition of accessory cold shoes or other accessories and that it has a hole on the bottom of the bracket for a tripod mount or for what I will be using it for which is to screw it in and hang it from my Black Rapid double sling harness. It will still be a bit unwieldy but it will be better than the previous bracket as I believe the flash arm will stay in position better...the previous bracket would always open up into sort of the portrait position and the flash would be hanging way down low to my side when I connected to the BR harness. I believe this bracket will stay in the landscape position when hanging upside down on my harness. It is well made and well thought out. The looseness or "play" some mentioned in the bracket, I did not notice or others are a lot pickier than me which is hard to believe :)
The only things I might want are: a click stop lock on the portrait position and a slightly smaller bracket...which they actually make for bodies w/o a battery pack. I opted for the larger model because I have a Canon 1Ds III which is a larger body and wanted to ensure the body would fit the bracket. Basically, very happy with the purchase and can't wait to use it on a real gig which is saying something because I basically hate working with brackets.

                      looks nice but
despite click stops, arms keep flip flopping, requiring constant attention to adjust.
Screws to attach flash and camera loosen too easily and frequently and again require constant monitoring.
Bracket doesn't fold flat because rubber on grip is too high

Comments about Custom Brackets Folding-T Flash Bracket:

Ok, I have a Stroboframe Pro-T that I've used for many years. Does the Folding T do everything that the Stroboframe does? Yes. Does it do it any better? No. The Custom Brackets Folding T does exactly the same job as the Stroboframe, no more no less. It does not do any of those things any better.

So what's the difference? The key difference between the two products is that the Folding T folds up very compactly for storage and transport compared to the Stroboframe unit. The vast majority of flash brackets are rigid. The only part the moves is the part the changes the orientation of the flash relative to the camera. This is a moving arm on these units, a rotator for camera rotating brackets. After all, the whole point of a flash bracket is to keep the flash "above" the camera body in either portrait or landscape orientation. Custom Brackets has added an additional point of articulation on the arm that hold the camera itself. This allows both arms to be folded in and makes it very compact to store compared to products like the Stroboframe. Brackets like the Stroboframe will not fit into most camera bags without taking up a bunch of room. The Folding T doesn't take up much room.

The bottom line is that if you need flash bracket and don't care about how much space it takes up when it's stored, then any flash bracket will work depending on your other needs. The Folding-T is no different to most other non-rotator type brackets in actual use. The only difference is that it stores compactly, and this is an important difference for me.

Comments about Custom Brackets Folding-T Flash Bracket:

This is a well-made, lightweight flash bracket that would be perfect for a smaller DSLR. I have a pro body DSLR, and there wasn't enough room for my hand between the camera and the bracket. I returned it for another, larger Custom Bracket product. I really liked the fact that it folded up on itself.

A very nice product, helps to get the flash out of the viewers eyes and prevents red eye. Very compact folding up nicely not taking up much space in the camera bag. No complaints here!

Comments about Custom Brackets Folding-T Flash Bracket:

I use this flash bracket for photographing sports and portraits. It is very well built and works exactly as advertised. Completely eliminates red eye and gives a much softer light than with the flash mounted in the camera's hot shoe. The only downside is that you pretty much have forget about using a strap.
