After using my JVC HD320 video camera a few times, I realized that my greatest fear was running out of power when I wanted it most. The BN-VF823USP seemed to be the most power per dollar of the proper JVC batteries. I checked batteries provided by others on the internet and they seemed to be jerry-rigs that required sepparate chargers. The BN-VF823USP although larger fits on the camera just like the battery supplied with my camera and can be charged using the internal charger in my camera. An external charger would be useful to charge the supplied battery while the BN-VF823USP was being used. However, if I start the day with both batteries charged, I should have 5-1/2 hours of recording time.
The only bad thing is, that like all Li-ion batteries, it is expensive. However, I purchased an expensive pocket camera in 2003 that uses a Li-ion battery, the battery is still good. The big-brand camera had dial and other markings painted with cheap paint and is now difficult to use. So in that case the battery is better than the camera.

Comments about JVC BN-VF823USP Lithium-Ion Data Battery (7.2V, 2190mAh):
I only give it 3 stars because this battery does not last long at all. I don't know what the standard is, but still...
And I don't think there is any other battery comparably to use.
Other than that, it works. I use it for my GY-HM100 HD CAMCORDER.
