The Aqua Tech SoftCap is a light and practical alternative to the leather 'snoot' style caps that are delivered with Canon and Nikon's big telephoto lenses today.
Constructed from a pliant silicon material, the SoftCap makes a snug fit right at the end of the lens barrel and is very unlikely to come off by accident.
You'll save a bit of weight and mass; and with a big lens to carry, every bit of savings counts--on a long journey, even a straw weighs a ton.
This SoftCap fits both the older non-stabilized versions of the current lenses as well as the current models, and can also be combined with Aqua Tech's SoftHood collapsible fabric hoods.

Comments about AquaTech ASCC-5 SoftCap:
I hate the lens cover that came with the f/4 500mm lens (hate the fit, hate the cord lock, hate the odor from it.) I debated getting the Don Zeck lens cap, but chose this because it was available from B&H and because it was made out of soft silicone. It's great: fits well, doesn't touch the optical surface, and it's easy to place and remove. It does attract dog hair, but I haven't noticed it putting hair or dust on the lens itself.
