This teleconverter has an excellent quality. If the subject is close to the lens it even adds a little contrast. When zoomed out it does not cover the whole sensor but who cares: no one will use it for wide shots.
But do you really need it? I think 1.5x is not enough for reasonable difference. I shot some very far subjects with and without it and I did not notice a serious difference in details (while shooting without it I added some digital zoom). I have Canon Vixia HF S10 and with its 1.7x multiplier I get everything very close. And also, on such big zooms you cannot get very contrasty and sharp pictures because of the atmosphere as I guess, so it doesn't make sense to zoom more and more.
Anyway, I am very happy I have this lens as I wanted to have the complete set of accessory shoe. I have not checked it with the moon yet. Here maybe it will add lots of details.

The first thing I did when I got my new lens is put on my Canon XF100 and go out to shoot long shots. I videoed birds in an estuary, a long shot of an oncoming bicycle from when it was 100 yards away right up to the tripod, and a similar shot of an approaching train. It created a great effect because the subject grows huge in the frame. It definitely requires a tripod though, and as others have mentioned, you will only get a clean shot from about half zoom to maximum zoom because the inside of the barrel becomes visible. I expected that and I wouldn't use this lens without zooming anyway. Overall, this lens met my expectations and it fits my needs for making those special long shots. Just a final thought. It could use a hood or some kind of lens protection.

Extremely dissapointing. The fact that you see the barrel of the extenderuntil you are about halfway through your zoom is a serious drawback.

I am using this with my CANON Vixia G-10 video camera. It is better than I hoped, I thought the magnification would be okay but it is better than that. The image is sharp. I would recommend this to anyone. Can't wait to get to the Rockies and wildlife.

I was hoping to use this to video from a long distance.
Good clarity.
When zooming out I could not stop with out the lens gaving me a circular met on the edges.

I felt I recieved enough zoom from all the way out to about half way in without vignetting. Will work well in wedding with the bailout camera.

Comments about Canon TL-H58 Tele Converter Lens (1.5x):
While there might be some situations where this teleconverter could be useful, I had to return it. The circular vignetting is found throughout too much of the zoom range. I tried this with a Canon XA10 and I was not impressed. Quality of construction seemed fine. It's just not a device I'd be able to use except for very specific situations. Using it would be kind of like using a prime lens (non zoom) and having to move your tripod back and forth in order to fill your frame. In my world, I don't have time for that.

Comments about Canon TL-H58 Tele Converter Lens (1.5x):
Very easy to use. It srews on over the Lens of the camera. In the camera menu system you set the adaptor lens type to Tele Converter.
I used it to shoot over and from behind a large crowd area, and in a theater hall. The picture quality while using this is excellent. Nothing matches a Canon product quite like another Canon product.
I couldn't figure out if there's a way to lock the zoom range in the camera so that when you zoom out you don't accidentally see the edges of the converter though... if that's even possible.
Also, it requires it's own size filters.

This not made for the 100 or 105-it's a joke.
Vignetting is more than 50% of the lens.
Better off using internal 1.5 tele.
Do not buy this lens for 100 or 105.

Comments about Canon TL-H58 Tele Converter Lens (1.5x):
This lens is as clear as you would expect from Cannon. Very nice. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is there is no hood for it and a 2x would be better. Maybe it's 1.5 because the optics are better. It also as expected vignettes when you pull out enough. Great if you are always more than half way zoomed in like sports or stage. It is Cannon clear. I would prefer this over the aftermarket 2x. I use it on a Cannon XF100. The XF100 is a very nice camera but only has a 10x zoom and the dig zoom is not an option for me.

Comments about Canon TL-H58 Tele Converter Lens (1.5x):
Purchased a Cannon xf105 camera. Great camera but lens only having 10x was useless. This camera is for our church and with the length of the church a 20x lens is important. Can't believe a camera in this price range didn't offer a 20x lens. BH Photo recommended this cannon screw on lens to make the camera close to 20x with a 1.7x lens. Zoom in is fine but when you zoom out to get wider shot you get this telescope tunnel effect. This is really bad. If you mistakenly zoom out to far your shot is ruined. Don't Buy This Lens Or the camera if you need a 20x lens.

Comments about Canon TL-H58 Tele Converter Lens (1.5x):
I bought this for my new Vixia HF G10 thinking that it would act like a nice telephoto. The problem is that this lens does not seem to be matched to the HF G10's standard lens and so produced an effect like tunnel vision or very bad vignetting. Only when the zoom is about 10 times does the image begin to fill the frame.

Relatively easy to attach, but lens tended to obscure outer edges of video lens and weighs more than other comporable lenses I've used in the past.

I use the product for outdoor location shots with a tripod. The product features excellent optics. The problem I have with both the Canon wide-angle and tele converter lens is that there are no threads for filters and no sunshade.

Works well but don't expect miracles.I enjoy using this lens gives a nice dof look and is built well. It will produce fringes of green/magenta near the outer edges of the lens but the center stays nice and clean.

Compatible with my Canon Vixiia hf s21.
Screws right on. Couldn't be any easier to use.
I primarily use this lens when shooting people from far away with a wireless mic.
Great lens quality. Very durable.
Shooting medium shots from further away with this lens creates a shallow focus that gives a cinematic feel to the image.
When fully zoomed, the image can get a bit shaky. I use a monopod to reduce hand shake and turn also turn on the dynamic stabilization on my camcorder.

Recently bought this lens to achieve a depth of field effect on my consumer grade Canon Vixia HFS20. In combination with Manuel focus, and the Zoom functions of the camera, as well as the handy Cinema mode on the camcorder, you can get a great cinema like depth perception that I have not seen on even professional grade camcorders.
