The Nikon 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens is designed for the APS-C sized sensor found on many Nikon cameras, but this lens may be used on certain full-frame models utilizing a special function of the sensor. As it stands, this lens will project an angle of view that is the equivalent of a 15-36mm lens in the FX or full frame 24x36mm format.
The primary user of a lens such as the 10-24mm Zoom-Nikkor will be one who finds standard kit lenses not quite wide enough for their tastes when photographing landscapes or interior views. An added benefit of wide angle optics is their ability to focus extremely close for a unique perspective on macro objects as close as 9.6" (24cm).
This ultra-wide angle lens incorporates some of the best of Nikon's technical accomplishments in optical engineering. Each 10-24mm lens is comprised of two extra-low dispersion (ED) lenses with no fewer than three aspherical lens elements. Nikon coats their glass with their own Super Integrated Coating that makes light transmission more efficient.
Focusing is facilitated by a speedy yet muted, AF-S Silent Wave Motor augmented by internal focusing design that eliminates changes in barrel protrusion. Full time manual focusing override is available with a M/A focusing switch.
Note! DX lenses are NOT recommended for use with 35mm film or "full-frame" digital SLR cameras

I use the lens a lot for shooting video on my Nikon D7000. I like it for parades at Disney. You can get up close and still get tops of floats in frame, easy to include all the performers. At Sea World you can sit down close enough to not have support beams in the way and include the whole show.
One thing to keep in mind is that the 10mm setting does distort the view. At Epcot, the big sphere at entrance looks like an egg unless it is centered in frame. If you pan around, you can see the obvious distortion. Kind of cool, though, if you know it's there. Sweeping views with interesting skies are a really big strength, in my opinion.
I used it to shoot a lot of pictures on a trip to the Philippines several months ago. I bought a screw-on 77mm lens hood at a photo shop in Mall of Asia. It shows in edges of frame until about the 14mm setting or so, but much better at keeping out stray light than the included lens hood. I try to keep it between 14 and 24 anyway to avoid much distortion. Most tests I've seen indicate that's the sweet spot, but I don't use the hood all the time anyway.
(Please note: The included photos were downloaded from an album I have with pictures from this lens on Facebook. I didn't have them on the computer I am on right now. I don't know that they are as good as the original file would be.)

Have used this lens a few months now. It isn't up to Nikon's fit and finish standards. The focus and zoom functions are not as smooth as I've experienced in the past on other lenses. It's not as sharp as I would expect for a Nikon lens. I'll have to try to find a non-zoom lens wide enough to do what I need to do. This lens is ok for a snapshoot type lens. And eventually I may find a setting for the lens that will yield the results I need.

Comments about Nikon 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens:
I tend to use the longest focal length I can for real estate photography because I think the images look more natural. However, when you get into a tight space (bathrooms, even some small bedrooms), the extra width of the 10mm on my DX format camera makes all the difference. The quality is as expected from a Nikkor lens, focusing is quick and accurate. I am able to handle the majority of my real estate photography needs with this one lens.

I purchased this lens to take interior photos of a building I had designed and a standard wide angle wouldn't capture everything I had wanted. This lens worked perfectly. I bought this lens thinking I would use it primarily for landscapes, but I find the very wide angle inspires many creative possibilities beyond landscapes. Indoor shots, close ups and different perspectives are some examples. It is sharp and so far I have been impressed with how well chromatic aberrations are controlled.

Just getting started with this lens test shooting. I've used it for interior shots and it takes in all of the room to show the entire area. Outdoors I lie the way it lets me take in the complete area. I wanted this lens for vacations. Looking forward to my next trip. t is a little heavy, but with all of that glass it is to be expexted. Comments about Nikon 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens:
I had been debating whether or not to get this lens for many months, finally stopped talking myself out of it and got it! A large percentage of my photos were at the 18mm end of my 18-55mm kit lens and I really like wide angle photography. I'm only an enthusiast and read that 10mm was a lot wider that 18mm, but I had never tried it, so I bought the lens hoping I would not be disappointed. I have not been disappointed at all! This lens is absolutely fantastic and is on my camera (Nikon D5100) a lot! I bought it a couple weeks before I was heading to Savannah, Ga for St. Patricks Day. Having been there before I knew I wanted pics of some of the historical buildings and to get them you really need to stand directly in front of the place because of trees, cars, and people. This lens was perfect for that, also liked using it from certain angles to get a slightly distorted point of view for some really interesting photos. This lens was also great to have down on River Street when the large cargo ships came in. You're so close you need a wide lens to get the ship in the pic and they turned out great. I have also used it for indoor photos of rooms. Having the 10mm-24mm also gives you a pretty good range to work with, especially compared to other wide angle lenses. I was thinking of the Sigma 8-16mm, but I'm glad I went with this Nikon 10-24mm. It has been more useful to me because of the longer focal length range. I have also used this lens for some really nice sunset photos over the water, great for capturing a lot of water and sky! It was an expensive lens for me to get since it is just a hobby for me, but after using it, I can say it has easily been worth the money.

Comments about Nikon 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens:
I purchased this lens to provide me with focal length flexibility at the wider angles. This was my first lens of 10mm focal length. My previous wide angle capability was 18mm.
I was surprised at the difference in area provided by the 10mm focal length as opposed to 18mm. The wider area provides a great deal of opportunity.
Upon receipt of the lens, I conducted a staged studio sharpness test. The lens produces crystal clear photos at all focal lengths and aperatures, especially at its center sweet spot.
However, in photos taken in the 3-6 foot range, there can be a good deal of distortion along the edges and corners which limits its capabilities in these situations. In longer distances, the distortion is not as apparent and correctable in Camera Raw.
I really love this lens and am pleased that I purchased it. However, I don't believe it can be my "everyday" lens due to the distortion that is apparent at certain distances.

So far I have used this on an older D50 body. I am very happy with the quality of the images. I spent a lot of time reading on wide angle lenses and was torn between the tokina 11-16 and this one. Finally went with my gut as I knew the range of zoom would come in handy. And it sure has...! I typically shoot pictures as I commute in the city. And having the range proved very useful. I've been able to take many creative shots just as my eyes see them. Well worth the price. I did have very minor cons, for which i subtracted one star. Heavy lens, hood attachment comes off easily. With the hood on but in reverse, for my fat fingers i constantly turn the focus ring instead of the zoom. The lens is really fat at the end, so built in flash will cast shadows. But i guess that is common to all lens of this size. Overall very happy with purchase. Shipping was as described.

Outstanding lens for shooting landscape - images are clear and crisp. Where the light was good, the pictures came out fantastic, but noise was clear when light was not optimal. I am still learning how to use it properly, and the 'noisy' images I got may be the photographer, not the lens. That said, I highly recommend this lens for those who shoot with DX cameras. When I crop the pictures, I see that the glass can be better, but for the money, this is an outstanding lens. I will also put a note in for the B&H service - outstanding!
