Gary Fong is a lifelong photographer with a knack for innovative solutions in the lighting realm, but also dabbles with other inventions that solve photographers' problems.  The Flip Cage is such a product, and is a great travelling companion for most point and shoot cameras fitting the general "deck of cards" form factor.

The Flip Cage acts as a rollbar, but also allows you to carry your point and shoot around your neck like a regular SLR thanks to its strap eyelets and 3' long included strap.

More importantly, though, the Flip Cage allows both horizontal and vertical compositions with adjustment for your tilt axis just as if you had a tabletop tripod.  Weighing less than ¼ lb and adding little mass to your point and shoot, the Flip Cage is a strong candidate to come along for every vacation or evening out with friends.

Flip Cage can also do light duty as a macro shooting stand, thanks to its slot for the camera screw which allows some fore-and-aft distance adjustment with the camera facing the table and the 'roll bars' oriented as if the camera was shooting a normal vertical composition.

Accommodates any camera with a tripod screw and maximum dimensions of 4.0 x 2.5 x 1.0" (101 x 54 x 26mm) WxHxD
"Bumpers" protect camera's housing
Allows horizontal or vertical compositions, each with tilt adjustment
Doubles as a macro stand by using the vertical orientation and rotating the camera upon the tripod screw to face straight down to the table
Includes matched 36" neck strap
Dimensions 3.9 x 3.6 x 1.8" (98 x 92 x 45mm) WxHxD
Weight 0.19 lb (88g)

I can't see how this product improves on the Manfrotto 797 Modo which works brilliantly, plus sells for less here on B&H. The Modo actually fits into a slim camera case whereas this beast looks like you'll need to purchase the next size larger camera case to get it all in. The few extra inches of height gained with the Flip Cage are all I can see as an advantage, but based on how I use the Modo, I do not find it relevant.

Comments about Flip Cage Tabletop Tripod for Compact Cameras (Midnight Black):

This is a very useful portable tripod for compact cameras. I can carry it in my pocket and it's easy to use anytime.
When I don't want to carry my bulky DSLR around I use a compact Nikon AW100 and this tabletop tripod heps me get stable shots. I can put it on tables, cars, on the ground and many other places.

Comments about Flip Cage Tabletop Tripod for Compact Cameras (Midnight Black):

I would give this product negative stars. I returned it immediately. My expectations were not high, but I expected more for the price and description. The item is made from cheap plastic complete with rough edges, poorly fitting parts, and poor tolerances. The device was so flimsy that it limited its ability to be adpatable and useful for even the smallest and lightest camera. I do not know of Gary Fong, but I certainly would not want my name associated with this product. I am pleased that B&H has a good return policy, because it would already be in the garbage can.

Great concept and idea. Perfect for teenager that loves setting her camera down to take group photos of her and her friends. Only drawback, doesn't fit camera case, but it's not really a design flaw. Just is what it is. But it does fold nicely and provide a layer of protection.

Use at the beach a lot. With the camera being attached to the tripod, we can just place it in the sand or set it down without worrying about the camera. It has removable flash diffusers and a detachable lanyard too! Used with Panasonic dmc-ts3

We use this for just that...a way to position our camera how we need it! This tripod comes with the flash diffusers you see in other pictures and a lanyard although they are not advertised as included(bonus!). It works well and can position the camera a lot of ways. It is very portable and sturdy for being so small. We love this accessory.

I got it for my daughters Lumix TS1 (ruggedized, but small) camera. The camera is just slightly too large. This is a good idea and well made, but suitable only for the smallest of cameras. Of course, putting it on such a small camera would pretty much defeat the purpose of having such a small camera.Overall I found this of negligible value.

this tripod actual is fun to use in its way to stand on surfaces that a normal tripod would fall off on...it may be a little bulky but its functional use for me atleast works...and when storing it its like having a roll cage for it when you fold it up...the white glare shields for sun and flash purposes (or its what i use it for) works fine with a little trial and error...overall im happy with it and my friends like it too...win win...

Comments about Flip Cage Tabletop Tripod for Compact Cameras (Midnight Black):

Flip cage table top tripod is another great product by Gary Fong.

It protects your compact digital camera, while also it is be able to be used as a tripod.

The flaps on the front and back of the tripod is easy to removed. It also helps to take a shot while you are outdoor. Additionally, you can use it as a diffuser when you do a macro shot with your camera.

The only thing that I would like to be revised from this product is the lanyard should be able to be removed, not attached permanently.
