Comments about Logan Graphics 850 Platinum Edge 40" Mat Cutter:
If you're like me, you're probably asking yourself if you really need to spend this kind of $$$ on a mat cutter. The answer is yes.
Why not just buy a 32 inch model?
If you plan on cutting 32" x 40" mat board, you need a 40" cutter. The problem with using a 32" cutter is that mat boards are not always 32". I got a whole batch of mat boards recently that were 32 1/8" and they won't work on a 32" cutter.
Why not a less expensive 40 inch model?
This cutter has a really solid squaring arm, which you need if you're cutting 40" mat board. But the real selling point is that making bevel cuts is dead simple.
Seriously Superior Support
The support at Logan Graphic is phenominal. Period. The mat cutter I bought had a subtile defect where the bevel cutter was shaving off part of the bar that it rides on. I took some photos and sent an email to Logan over the weekend. Not only did I get a prompt response Monday morning, but there was no "did you try this" or "are you sure you're not doing that". The support person said straigth-away "this is not right, we're going to replace it." and they did.
Yes, it's expensive, but you won't regret buying it.

A significant step up from my logan elete. Presision cutting and ease of use. Just wish the handle was a bit more ergonomic.

Comments about Logan Graphics 850 Platinum Edge 40" Mat Cutter:
Including freight to Australia this mat cutter costs almost $ ! But it's still worth it. It's cuts well once you set up all the guides and production stops. It's well built and looks good too. The only flaw that I think should be given more thought is the way the cutting head hits the stop at the end of the cut. It should come to a smooth stop instead of hitting it at full speed. Perhaps a spring could be incorporated into the stop.

Tired of out-sourcing matting for pictures, the 850 Platinum Edge 40 will actually pay you back within 5-10 times of use. This product is easy to use with just a little bit of practice. I use the 40" X36" mats and I am able to get multiple mats out of out one sheet. Thanks B&H for your timely delivery

Comments about Logan Graphics 850 Platinum Edge 40" Mat Cutter:
This is the best cutter I have used. It is just really expensive. It is so heavy you will not want to move it much. It took a few cuts to set up the start stop indicators and it is perfect. I can cut an 11x14 with a 6X9 window in like 15 seconds and without pencil marks. It cuts smoothly and is very accurate once you set it up. This cutter will save you so much time and I have even been able to trim prints with it.

This is the best cutter I have used. But it was very expensive. Took a few cuts to get the start and stop indicators set up and it has worked well since. I can cut a 11X14 mat with a 6x9 window in about 15 seconds and with out pencil marks!!! It cuts smoothly and you can adjust every thing. I have even trimmed prints with it. It is heavy so you may not want to use it then store it away, is better if placed on a sturdy bench or table and left in place.

Comments about Logan Graphics 850 Platinum Edge 40" Mat Cutter:
A solid, professional mat cutter. Sturdy aluminum and stainless steel construction. Adjustable production stops, adjustable blade holders. Cuts 4 ply and 8 ply mat board successfully.
Check squareness of Mat Guide and Squaring Arm before use; possible (easy) adjustment may be required.
Cutting heads are solid and free gliding, but non ergonomic design.
Careful setup and practice is required, as with all mat cutters.
