The quality of the video that this product outputs is very good. The embedding of audio is a great feature too. If you plan to use it in a broadcast/production workflow make sure that your computer's video card can output 59.94hz. It is the only way to get the DVI Extender to output 1080 or 720 that is compatible with video switchers and recorders in an HDSDI production environment.

I purchased this in order to quickly convert Quicktime files to tape by playing the files in full screen mode and recording the output of the DVI Extender to tape.
All the documentation claims that the output is "compatible with all SDI equipment", but the decks were not happy with the SDI output of the DVI Extender (SD and HD). When I called Blackmagic support on this issue, I was told they've only tested it with monitors, not decks. They didn't seem terribly interested in looking into it, either.
The decks I tried this on were an HVR1500, F500, and SR5800 (all Sony).
If you are looking to just display your computer desktop on an SDI monitor, it works as advertised for that purpose, and looks great.
I would love to see a firmware fix from Blackmagic Design to stabilize the SDI output to truly work with ALL SDI equipment.

Comments about Blackmagic Design HDLEXT-DVI DVI Extender:
I use this product in order to properly send a true 1080p signal to other black magic devices over SDI. This does not only work as an extender for DVI but as a signal converter for accurate signal processing

Works great..I'm using this to connect my MacBook Pro to a Sony MCS -8M video mixer. For some reason the DVI connection from the MacBook to the mixer wouldn't work correctly and this converter did the trick. Worked perfect out of the box!

Comments about Blackmagic Design HDLEXT-DVI DVI Extender:
I used the DVI Extender to output a HD (1920x1080) signal from a Mac Pro Tower to a Panasonic projector for a live presentation to an audience. Seamless! The straight forward hookup and installation took about 2 minutes and I was outputing a extremely clean signal. No downside that I encountered, it worked exactly as advertised! Thanks Blackmagic!

Comments about Blackmagic Design HDLEXT-DVI DVI Extender:
For years, I've been exporting analogue video from an iMac via FireWire to use on a video board at live sporting events. It's an effective and cost-effective way to deliver the video elements of our scoreboard show. In the coming season, we're going to play in an arena with an HD video board and their control room equipment is (of course) significantly different. In order to continue to playing back our show on the iMac, I had to find a way to convert our exported video to SDI in real-time, and in researching the matter, I came across the HDLEXT-DVI DVI Extender from Blackmagic Design. I had heard good things about Blackmagic products from colleagues and, from the description of the DVI Extender (and the moderate price point), it seemed like it would be a good fit since I knew I could also export video from the iMac through its DVI port.
Having ordered products from B&H before, I knew I'd get the DVI extender in only a day two once I placed the order, even though I'm in Canada. Sure enough, it arrived quickly and I immediately went to the iMac to give it a try. All I had to do was drag-and-drop a file of software from the Blackmagic driver disc into my applications folder, hook up the DVI cable from the iMac to the DVI Extender and the SDI out from the Extender to an SDI monitor and bingo…we were in business. I launched my video program, set the output to the proper port and that was it…HD video from my iMAC converted to SDI in real-time. If only ALL products were so simple to install and worked so well.

Comments about Blackmagic Design HDLEXT-DVI DVI Extender:
I bought this wanting to use it to capture the screen of (primarily) Windows laptops, and send the signal into a production video switcher to be used as a video input in a live editing/broadcasting system. Turns out, this device has to have an input size that's equal to whatever output size you need. (I needed an output size from it, into my switcher, to be 1920x1080) Since most Windows laptops can't output 1920x1080 it wouldn't work for me. I wished it was setup to accept a broader range of input sizes and scale them to several choices of output sizes...but it can't.

Very easy to set up and use. The USB interface is easy to install and simple to use.
I purchased this product to view QuickTime videos output from the second DVI output of my graphics card and input to my routing switcher to view on HD-SDI destinations.
Picture quality is good for the price but there is some artifacts in text. Wouldn't use it as an extended desktop or dual display. No genlock capability.
