This is my first one of these things. And I think that it works fine. The ball joints are really tight and sometimes hard to adjust, but I think that's better then being too loose. It's really light weight, but seems to be quality. I love all the different positions that it can go into. But it does need constant readjusting because of wind or the weight of my reflector.... but I've only used it once so far. So maybe I'm the one that needs more practice with it.

I'm surprised at the high rating of this item. I purchased both this one and the Impact 1103 to see which worked better at holding reflectors. The little black clips on the Westcott are a piece of junk. They are tiny little plastic pieces with wimpy springs that do not hold the reflector at all, and look like they will break easily. Very frustrating. Everything else about this arm is solid and sturdy. If Westcott completely redesigned the clips this unit would have potential. Your reflector will fall off within 60 seconds of setting it up. I recommend the Impact 1103 instead. It uses a different type of clip which is much more secure. The Impact could be improved by beefing up it's clips as well, but at least it works. These are both for indoor use - don't expect your reflectors to stay on these outdoors.

      Comments about Westcott Illuminator Arm:

This is one of the best purchases I have made. I used another reflector holder before and the difference is dramatic. The Illuminator arm is designed by people who actually use this kind of device in the field. It's low profile, light, it orients how I need it and it holds a wide variety of reflectors in place.
For me this is a must-have.

        Comments about Westcott Illuminator Arm:

This is a wonderful product! It can be used indoors or outdoors. When using it outdoors you may need to add some weight to your light stand. I use it with a 42 inch reflector and it holds the reflector in place at any angle I want. It eliminates needing someone to hold it for you. Very useful and I would recommend it to anyone. It is very sturdy and easy to adjust.

Holds 5 in 1 reflector very easily. I paid a little more for this reflector holder from Westcott based on reviews of some lower cost ones complaining about build quality. Am glad I did as this one is very solid and holds big reflectors at all angles with no problems.

                  Comments about Westcott Illuminator Arm:

This arm is an excellent product to hold your reflectors. I bought westcott Illuminator Reflector Kit 6-in-1 - 52 and westcott Illuminator Reflector Kit 6-in-1 - 30, they perfectly match with the arm. Build quality: very durable, it will last for a very long time. Not too heavy, very strong.Holding the reflector: it can hold your reflector at any angle and be stable. Using experience: very easy to assemble, every thing is intuitive. You do not need any instructions. In the package, the carry case IS provided which makes it convenient for travel. I have used this arm, 52inch reflector and manfrotto 1052bac indoor, NO sand bags are needed. For outdoor usage, a sand bag or a stronger light stand is recommended in wind.

Just make sure you bring sandbags, anchors, or assistant on an outdoor shoot, as a good wind turns your modifier into a sail in a heartbeat!

I recently purchased this item that I saw in a tutorial at the B&H event space.
I use to use a white cardboard reflector clipped on to a lightstand. It was difficult to work with.
The illuminator arm really angles the Westcott reflector that I also purchased.
I find this very helpful in my studio..more precise angles and not as makeshift.
Im satisfied with it and would buy it again.
On the down side the ball joints are stiff and you have to take care when storing the arm not to break the plastic clips on the ends.
That being said I find this a very welcome addition to my studio.

I saw this during a portraiture demonstration and was awestruck by its utility and versatility. Extremely well made, it holds all my reflectors solidly. The arm itself extends out to accommodate virtually any size and shape reflector and the double-ball base allows unlimited and easy positioning. I find this to be such a fantastic find; inexpensive, extremely well made and versatile. Quite simply, you must have one of these if you are using reflectors in you photography.

                          Comments about Westcott Illuminator Arm:

I now own two of these Westcott Illuminator Arms, and I love them! I use them for holding reflectors, diffusers, and collapsible backgrounds. I've found them to be a valuable addition to my "go bag" for on-location shooting, as well as in studio settings.

The telescoping elements work just like a light stand or tripod leg, and the rotating base allows for a full 3-axis placement of the supported reflector.

Simple and well-constructed. A must-have for anyone doing on-location shooting!

I use this when shooting natural light head shots without an assistant. Lightweight and fast set up. You'll still want to keep a sandbag or some weight handy because the arm and reflector can still over balance your lightstand with even a little wind.

I am a fine art photographer who works alone. I need a way of accurately positioning reflectors. This works perfectly. Its the second one I have bought.

                                      Comments about Westcott Illuminator Arm:

I bought this because I got tired of finding someone to hold a disc for me, they get distracted and the disc always gets out of position.

With the Illuminator Arm by Westcott, it will hold the reflector exactly where I want it, the reflector clamps are quick and positive (although I have not figure out if they sell replacements, or how to replace them in-case these plastic adapters snaps!)

I find the twin ball-joint are clamped down with one lever, so you can't independently adjust the tensions. Mine came a bit tight, but it was easy to adjust the lock-nut.

Overall I like the built quality and the ability to telescope to 60", although I wonder how well it hold a 60" reflector.

                                        Comments about Westcott Illuminator Arm:

I am happy with the illuminator arm. It is extremely helpful when it comes to holding reflectors and on our c stands. I do wish it had included a double ended spigot but I felt like we got a good price with B&H so I can't complain.
