Comments about Matrox MXO2 Max for Desktop:

Quick change between setups, easy control panel.

MAX feature is fast, but shuts down the MXO2, so you can't use Final Cut simultaneously.

Comments about Matrox MXO2 Max for Desktop:

I've been a little apprehensive about buying another Matrox product - having been burned by them 7 or 8 years ago when they suddenly "dead-ended" one of their Mac breakout boxes - leaving myself and others holding worthless hardware. But the MXO2 reviews were good, and I liked being able to switch this box between my MacPro and MacBook Pro systems. So far it's worked vey well, and the one time I had to call Tech Support regarding the first set-up, I was very surprised and happy to have gotten a real person, who was able to simply log-onto my system, view my screen and solve the problem in a few minutes time. The MXO2/Max comes with three years of this type of service free - very nice! The slight disappointment so-far is the lower quality connectors, especially the PCIe cable and connectors, which are a little tinny and not well formed, - the little screw connections don't line up, so there's not a positive, solid connection. Seems a waste to have used such low quality for what seems to be an otherwise solid product. As for function, it works great, and it's especially nice to have I/Os for everything included - HDMI, SDI, Component, YC, composite, XLR/RCA (surround out monitoring!) Up/Down conversion...Be advised that the online description says that it only includes the PCIe adapter, so I purchased the Express 34 card ($99) thinking I'd need it for my laptop. When I opened the MXO2 box, both cards were included [...]

Comments about Matrox MXO2 Max for Desktop:

Using it with Aplle Final Cut Pro, Apple Color, and Adobe After Effects. This is a great solution for HD/SD monitoring on NTSC monitors and the MXO2 has calibration tools for output your color correction previews.
The best part of MXO2 is when it is combined with MAX processor. it is a render accelerator that uses the H.264 codec. Rendering in Compressor for a Master clip is very fast, faster than realtime when you're not scaling video, and a lot faster than h.264 from quicktime compressor. it makes a huge difference for me as I work as mobile editor, using a macbook pro 17" 4GBRAM and the ExpressCard for conecting the MXO2, and also in the editing room with my MacPro. Render times are not a problem anymore.
ther is enough Ins and Outs for connecting everything you want in your editing room. I think the only lack it has is the fact you can't use it as an Audio or video card into the Finder onMAc, you need to use some editing software
