I had a bunch of old VHS tapes of work from high school and college. I wanted them digitized. This product is insanely simple to use and works perfectly. I use this product on my MacBook. I did not use the included editing software. It digitizes to an .mov file so all files will work in Final Cut, Premiere or iMovie.

Not so great for a mac

I saw that this worked with a Mac which is why I bought it. Unfortunately, it barely works with a Mac. Just comes with a app/driver that plays video in a window out of sync with the source and no controls other than record or stop. On the Windows side it comes with software that you can do more with but I still had to use different software from the web in order to make it work for me the way I wanted.
I even emailed the company who makes this asking if there is any software they know of that works with it on a Mac (OS X 10.8), but that was a week ago and still haven't received a reply. I downloaded a few capture programs for the Mac but they don't recognize the device. Even when I did try to capture with it on the Mac the program crashed after 14 minutes of capture. This is on a brand new Mac also.
So in my opinion if you have a mac, I would not suggest you don't buy this. On Windows it works ok for me using a program called Debut Video Capture from NCH. It lets me pause the recording so I can cut out commercials from old video tapes I'm converting, which the included software doesn't allow. I couldn't even get the install CD to play properly on my Mac super drive. I had to drag the info from it off onto a USB stick on another computer.
As for B&H, I was very pleased with speed of shipping and the price. No complaints there.

loaded software no problem set up and loaded video from camcorder did this with no problem. I have the recording now on my mac. Just having trouble burning video to dvd, seems to be a problem with formating the video recording but i should be able to figure this out. product does what it said it would.

I converted my first video tape yesterday. It popped into Sony Vegas Pro with just a mouse click. Did exactly what I expected. I compared the original tape with the MPG file, and my eye could not detect any loss of quality.

Although I am still experimenting with the system I purchased for my security camera, the device is serving my needs perfectly! I did have a technician assist in the download of software in order to make my camera record activity. It was easy to connect, but I did need extra software. I am happy with the Converter! I will now have digital recordings of the teens who are causing property damages.

I wanted a painless way to transfer old 90s home movies to my laptop. The installation was simple and it's interface easy to use. The quality is as good as I would expect. Sometimes during recording there shows a pale green screen, but I think that is the fault of either my computer or the footage itself. It was a lot harder finding a cheap VCR (I saw no use in replacing the camcorder batteries) than finding a reliable converter. I now hope it has a great longevity in case I should use it for other VHS movies I still have from the 90s. My only wish is that it could have somehow recorded the footage faster, but I am satisfied with the result.

The product performed exactly as advertised. It easily converted compact VHS tapes and well as miniDV tapes to DVDs. It dropped frames (about one or two every minute or so) but it is not perceptible when watching the conversion or the finished DVD. I didn't care for the editing software so after conversion, I used Windows 7 movie maker to edit and publish to the DVDs. B&H had the best price and the delivery was when they said it would be. I'm very happy with this product and the B&H service.

I bought the device to transfer my 8mm tapes to digital. Unfortunately, I could not get the software to properly load on to my windows 7 computer. I called the Ion customer service multiple times and they were at a loss as well. I am dissapointed as I thought this would work well.

One of the few video capture products, at this price, that actually works with Windows 7, 64 bit. The quality is about what you'd expect transferring from old, poorly recorded VHS tapes. The editor is not at all user friendly and there are constant popups to buy an UPGRADE that is not needed. For some reason Windows Movie Maker does not recognize the saved mpeg file when using this capture software so if I cannot figure out how to edit the Mpeg with this editor, I will be stuck having to burn 8Gb DVDs for every 2 hours of VHS tape. My recommedation is based on its compatibility with my system and ease of setup but the software seems to be purposely vague so that you'll purchase the upgrade.
