Comments about Kramer FC-49 DVI & Audio to HDMI Format Converter & Audio Embedder:

after getting a $65 converter : Cables Unlimited Pro A/V Series DVI and Digital Audio to HDMI (AUD-2362) it worked well actually. HOWEVER, my particular installation was next to the kitchen. That alone may appear to mean nothing, but every so often, the picture and audio would cut out for a few seconds. After a month of crazy process of elimination, I finally discovered it was the CONVERTER that was picking up noise form anything in the kitchen that made an electrical contact noise, microwave door closing, dishwasher cycling, ice maker, any thing that turned on and off. shielding the converter completely in aluminum foil, isolating the power supply by using batteries, getting a medical grade power supply, all did not help at all. already now a few bucks spent trying to fix the converter noise problem. Sooo... there is this Kramer unit (there is the SIIG unit but no toslink, and I was using that)... but nearly $300, 4 times the converter I have now! Is it worth it to get this unit to solve the noise problem?...and not know for sure it will do the job at all anyways?. btw forums reporting this noise problem with hdmi all come from different causes and sources, so there was no way to find out about my particular situation. Well after the Kramer units were finally back in stock,(had alot of problems with online retailers saying they had it, but did not) I did the plunge.... and..... the result is YES! the Kramer comes through as an industrial grade unit that, FOR SURE, justifies the cost. good engineering does cost, plain and simple, which clearly shows the difference between a $65 unit and and a $280 unit. But unfortunately Kramer does not make a note of this noise immunity strength in its specs ,maybe by reputation ,and a review like this, that people in the business know where to go for the proper equipment. I just had to learn the hard way, but I'm happy now!

Comments about Kramer FC-49 DVI & Audio to HDMI Format Converter & Audio Embedder:

I use the FC-49 to output computer content to a 52" LCD so that students can watch (and listen to) what I do. Having multiple audio inputs makes hookup easy. I get improved audio quality with the TosLink cabling. If the price comes down, I'll get another one for home.
