I bought this product to replace a very old (but very reliable) Kensington Expert Pro Trackball. I am a graphic designer with a neurological condition that causes tremors in my hands, so I needed a large ball and buttons. I have no problems with the hardware here, but the software was sadly lacking in giving me the speed, acceleration, drag and right-click control I needed for my graphic apps. It was necessary to install additional software to control movements and I found "USB Overdrive" to be very helpful in this regard. But even with the third-party software, the entire package is still not quite as maneuverable as my old Expert Pro Trackball. Although Kensington really needs to provide better software for this item, the Slimblade does perform adequately and fits my handicap better than the Orbit Trackball my wife uses for her computer.

Purchased this for my new home computer, believing it to be the next generation of the Kensington Expert Mouse Trackball I use at the office. First, the good news: SlimBlade is true plug and play for Windows 7, no sw compatibility or driver issues, pinpoint accuracy, no response lag, use for hours at a time with no discomfort. Everything I hoped for, EXCEPT, now the bad news:

it doesn't have a scroll ring like the Expert Mouse TB, and I can't find any other means of scroll control via the SlimBlade. The fact that scrolling can only be controlled via keyboard is a drag, and may eventually cause me to give up and buy another Expert Mouse TB for my home computer.

      Comments about Kensington SlimBlade Trackball:

If sheer good looks were the sole criterion for choosing a trackball, the Kensington Slimblade would be the one, hands down, money no object. Even the cable gets the deluxe treatment, wrapped in braided cloth insulation like some high-class audio products. I've never seen braided cloth on any computer interconnect before, let alone a common USB cable.
Otherwise, you can save some money on a Kensington Expert Pro Mouse (which B&H also carries), and get all the same capabilities in about the same space on your desktop -- both even have the same size ball, nice and big and hefty.

As a rule, I prefer buttons formed as separate parts, that move when you push them (like the Kensington Expert Pro), as opposed to cutout-defined panels meant to flex when pressed. But the Slimblade's panels are SO flexy that the difference goes unnoticed in use -- unless you do a LOT of clicking, which gets tiresome. The feel is positive, the sound distinct but discrete.

In another sense, the Slimblade seems like a throwback; the company that brought us the Scroll Ring neglected to fit one to the Slimblade. Instead, there's a neat trick: If you grab the ball and turn it like a knob, you get scrolling! Why didn't anyone think of that before? Why didn't *I* think of that?
To be fair, it takes an extra optical sensor to do that trick...as opposed to simply fitting a mechanical ring or wheel...AND a sensor to track its movement...So why didn't they think of it before?
The scrolling-ball trick seems to work without TrackballWorks installed, but downloading it will give you control over the upper two "buttons" (which Windows ignores) as well as lots of extra optional functions and the ability to reverse the scrolling direction. Others have complained that TrackballWorks won't run in Windows 7 but I got it working on the first try, so I think there's been an update. And I never thought this would be an issue, but evidently there are those who move their trackballs around a lot, and they should be informed that like the Expert Pro, the Slimblade doesn't grip its ball in place. It will fall out if tipped, so either use caution when moving it or consider another choice.

Unlike other Kensington trackballs, the Slimblade isn't supplied with a wrist rest. At this price point, Kensington apparently feels that buyers have a much better idea of what they want to rest their wrists on than the company does.

I was prepared to be skeptical about this tracikball, but I just HAD to try it. It has its minor imperfections, but I have to admit I like it!

      Comments about Kensington SlimBlade Trackball:

I was so excited when I found this trackball. Right away I ordered one, for use on my Mac G5 for Protools editing, and a little bit of Photoshop and iMovie too.
It has the feel I need for quick efficient editing. I love the large ball, think billiard ball size, it provided both speed and control, for precise editing. The top address ball allows me to control it with my thumb, fore fingers or both. (unlike many other track balls that are only thumb address.) It comes closest to the feel of the old Kensington "Turbo Mouse" that I first used with my original MacIIci, and later, for many years, with my Mac G3. The SlimBlade ball is a bit smaller but a good deal lighter than the ball of the Turbo Mouse, but feels similar to it.
I am very happy with my SlimBlade Trackball by Kensington. I would recommend it to anybody who edits media.

Much better than a mouse on my lap, I've used a track ball, but there are very few that are USB (and most of them are cheap and don't last very long). Button placement takes sometime to get used to. I hit the top-left button rather than bottom-left a lot, but you get used to it after a while.
          I like this unit.

I'm an editor and I've been using Kensington Trackballs for ages. The large trackball enables you to effortlessly zoom around the screen and programmable keys help speed up your workflow. I especially like to have a return or enter key located on a button.

My one complaint is that for some reason you can only program one keystroke for each button and chord. Older versions of TrackBallWorks used to allow you to program a string of characters per button but that function has been removed for some reason. What's up with that Kensington?

I've been using Kensington trackballs for about 16 years. I forget what they called the with one with the wheels but that was my first. I moved to expert mouse when optical technology came out. I still use an Expert Mouse wireless, an Expert Mouse, and now this SlimBlade. Believe me folks NOBODY makes a trackball as smooth as Kensington. I got this SlimBlade to use with my HP laptop because I just couldn't stand the products offered by Microsoft and Logitech. The SlimBlade has a unique way of scrolling by twisting the ball and after two weeks I see the death of the scroll wheel on the horizon - it's that intuitive. If you want a trackball save the money you'll waste on a MS or Logitech ball and pay the few dollars more for the Kensington. You won't go back.

I'm at the computer 12 hours/day and I find a trackball much better than a mouse for my hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder. My Logitech Trackball developed floating cursor and I couldn't cure it. I looked at lots of recommendations from friends and relatives, but no one mentioned the Kensington SlimBlade Trackball. I found it on my own, and it is perfect for me. The large ball makes for easy cursor precision. Its simple clean design is very appealing to me. It's the easiest least stressful pointing device I've ever used. (I started out with a CPM machine so some of you will have an idea of how many pointing devices I may have used over the years.)

                  Comments about Kensington SlimBlade Trackball:
