In terms of function it probably rates 5 stars, but at [$], I just don't see where they justify their price. It is relatively sturdy, but Lastolite used to make these out of metal. Lastolie has reengineered the cold shoe to fit the Nikon SB900 foot, which is larger than earlier designs. Everything else works just like the older metal one did. Guess there's no stopping progress if that's what you call it. If you're accustomed to buying camera equipment and accessories than inflated prices are probably nothing new to you. And if you're reading this you probably already know that you need one and there's no cheaper substitute for it.

This plastic version does the job and works with the lastolite softboxes but I found it to be over engineered and hard to modify. For example if you want to swap out the funny hotshoe holder for a different one of your choosing it isn't easily done like on the older metal version.

Also I can easily unscrew the hotshoe mount on the metal version and attach my speedlight with the Radiopopper base but can't do it with this version without figuring out a way to mickey mouse it.

Too bad you can't buy the older version anymore! (:(

I love this thing. It was one of the cheaper options, but got really good reviews so I gave it a chance. It works like a charm.

Needed to replace my original bracket because it was misplaced. Seems to be the same bracket that came with my 24x24 Ezybox. Well made and functional.I use it with a Nikon SB900 and the fit is perfect.

Comments about Lastolite Ezybox Hot Shoe Mark II Bracket:

This is the best thing out there. I am rough on my equipment and this is the only such bracket strong enough to meet my needs. It's secure. It holds your flash. It holds a gridded 24" softbox. However, I really wish that you could connect pocketwizards flexes to it via their screw adapters, as those are stronger than hot-shoes. They should at least sell another adapter so you could switch their hotshoe out. The odd molding make it hard to self-rig an alternative. Another problem with flexes in particular: you have to take them all the way off to change the flex batteries. Still, this really completes a good system for a light rig. It's ALMOST perfect. The best I've found. I'd love to know of a competitor to test out, but all else is rinky-dink and a level beneath.

Comments about Lastolite Ezybox Hot Shoe Mark II Bracket:

I guess Lastolite had to change the Mark I when the SB-900 was introduced which is too bad. I agree with the reviewer that says adding a Radiopopper, Pocketwizard or Impact receiver is difficult with the adapter provided. It would be much more useful for Lastolite to include another adapter to hold 1/4 20 threaded accessories.

Comments about Lastolite Ezybox Hot Shoe Mark II Bracket:

I bought this new version of the Ezybox bracket because I had read good reviews and I am glad I purchased.

I was initially disappointed by the build quality (which is more plastic than the first version and the reason it gets only 4 stars) but the unit is lighter, easier to assemble, has a cold-shoe that fits both regular Nikon speedlights and also the larger hot-shoe of the SB-900.

I have the previous metal brackets for the Ezybox hot shoe softboxes... this new bracket is many times better, so much so that I got one with a new kit and ordered two to replace the older brackets. They break down smaller to fit in the bag, they're easier to get your flash mounted, they're just overall easier to deal with... don't have them, get them, it makes life easier!

too expensive would be my only negative - the customer that stated that it was impossible to angle it - it't the same with every softbox - you don't angle the box you angle the light. In this case you need to mount it on either a umbrella type head (with the joint) or on an arm...

great stuff from Lastolite - just wish the price was cheaper

This product does hold a lastolite softbox and a hot shoe flash securely, but it doesn't articulate so that you can change the angle of the flash coming toward the subject. This is a big drawback for those of us who would like control of exactly where the light falls on our subject! There is very little difference between this, and using a cheaper hot shoe mount with the softbox just hanging over the flash head. [$] you should get more.
