I needed a ring light mostly for video, as I at times need to shoot very close to toy products. This fits over the lens on my Sony NXCAM and provides light where needed. I could not find a thread-mount ringlight that would fit the 37mm lens on my Sony. This also fit over the Sigma 50mm 1:2.8 DG Macro lens I use on my Canon EOS.If you can't fit the ring over the barrel of your lens, most likely the light will creep into the frame of your shot.Being hot-shoe mounted, but powered by 3 x AAA batteries, I could use it on a bracket as a 2nd light source.Construction of the product is to the best of modern Chinese quality (haha) but for the price if it breaks its not much worry.I don't have a light meter, but if you turn this on high and look at the lights, you'll have spots in your eyes!I will attach some pics using the product on my DSLR.

I use this LED Macro Ring Light by Sunpack attached to my 100mm macro (Canon) to light up objects/tiny subject while taking a shot at them. The idea is super but the execution is a bit weak. The biggest problem I have is that it doesn't attach to the lens and I have jet been able to put it on the lens such that it actually stays on. Although it has the flexible arm and it "sort of" stays on, it is not firmly attached and can--if not careful--be creaping into your picture! So be aware!

The second problem I have is not being able to point the light exactly to where I want it to. The LED is a great idea, since they produce white (nature-sun-like) light but since they are in the circle around the lens tip, they are not actually lighting up the object but its surroundings! This is not desired.

Hence, my solution so far has been to not even try to attach the ring to my lens but use the arm to move the ring to light up the object more directly. Of course, then the size of the circle means that much of the lighting power still does not light up the macro-subject but at least some do.

Comments about Sunpak LED Macro Ring Light:

I have used this ring light for close-up shots both indoors and out. I am glad I bought it.

        Positive aspects:

        1. Long flexible metal arm has been staying put for me, although I gather some users have had problems with it
        2. It's possible to position the arm such that the light is coming from above or to the side of the object being photographed, which is nice for more dramatic lighting and/or depending on other light sources
        3. Good value for the relatively low price

Two slightly negative comments, neither of which is a deal-breaker as far as I am concerned:

        1. It's very bright, even on "low"
        2. It barely fits over my Lensbaby Muse, which I need to focus/use by wiggling the front of the lens with my fingers (it has no focus ring). So the ring light is in the way of my fingers and my fingers are in the way of the light source. This is not an insurmountable obstacle, only slightly annoying.

Comments about Sunpak LED Macro Ring Light:

A very sound value for the casual macro photographer. Perhaps a bit more fiddly than a pro would put up with, but capable of great pro-quality results. Good bright illumination down to about 1.5" then a dark spot starts to develop in the center of the light zone and gets larger as you get closer. If the switch wasn't a bit intermittent out of the box, (works fine now) I would have given a 5 star rating. I still think it's worth a 4.5 star rating. Good value!

Comments about Sunpak LED Macro Ring Light:

I have used this light to play around with macro photography. It has continuous lighting which is nice. Only two settings for light intensity. It's not really connected with your camera in any way other than the fact that you can connect it to your hot shoe. It will not attach in your lens in any way and seems a bit flimsy. On the other hand you can use it from different angles because of this. If you have a very limited budget and need only some light and have some patience, this can be okay for you. Otherwise, I'd recommend something more serious.

Comments about Sunpak LED Macro Ring Light:

What a great little macro ring light. I just purchased this ring light for shooting jewelry, specifically faceted gem incrusted costume jewelry. It makes the colors pop, the facets shine and the diamonds dazzle. I use the light in conjunction with a small product stage, a light tent and 3 other photo floodlights. This light works best within about 2 to 20 inches from the subject. It's perfect for small product photography. Be sure to measure your max lens width because the 67mm size is not a filter size but the actual max width of the ring hole. My Tamron 90mm 1:1 macro with a 55mm filter size is almost too big for the ring light, but it works just fine with it. It does exactly what I want it to do, and it does the job well. Sunpak has out shined itself with this inexpensive gem.

Comments about Sunpak LED Macro Ring Light:

I have enjoyed using my new macro ring light. It doesn't have TTL metering, but the camera compensated fairly well since the light stays on in the on position. The two different output settings are also very helpful. The next light up in quality is at least the times as expensive, so this is a great product for those of us who are on a limited budget!

Comments about Sunpak LED Macro Ring Light:

I work in broadcasting and we shoot promotional video on a DSLR. Sometimes we need a little extra light on a subject and this works perfectly.
As opposed to a ring flash the light stays on all the time which we need for video, it's lightweight, easy to attach and remove.
Two brightness settings for the led's, for video you will likely always use the brighter one which has been more than adequate for me.
The price is outstanding, I don't use this kind of light enought to justify anything more expensive.
Only criticism is the plastic housing for the batteries doesn't always make contact so a little squeeze is sometimes required. And depending on the existing light don't expect to be able to use it for subjects more than a few feet away, it's a touchup as opposed to a makeover.

This is a great little ring light for macro photography to get that bit of extra light to shine on the centre of a flower and make your image 'pop' .

For macro, it can hardly be beat. It's a bit tricky to keep on the lens the way the cable/suspension works but for fixed use, it's great.

Comments about Sunpak LED Macro Ring Light:

This was available locally, but for more than twice the cost ( in Canada) . Not only did I like the price but I like the product very much. I am a jeweller and the light is perfectly suited for photographing my work. I use it with my macro lens and it gives extra (but not too much) sparkle to my jewellery.
I'm using the Sunpak to upgrade the photos on my website. I don't have anything negative to say about it. It's one of those cases where you don't have to put out a lot of money to get a very decent product.

Very simple design. Easy to use. Not the brightest or best color light but I'm not the average LED fan. I hate LED and wish they went away but they wont and they make things cheaper so I guess I have to get used to it. I bought this to take close shots of objects and it lets me do it for a price that was right.

a good idea for close up and macro shots, but in practice its hard to use because of the exact diameter. said to fit up to 77mm., it should be wider than 77 mm. so it would fit 'around' the lens, not 'in front'. so what i did, i am trying to widen its diameter over 77 mm. with sand paper since a week . now it works...

Simply handle available light for video head shot, or small still photoshot, but Not strong light power. This is good for emergency light or a lot of easier than heavy battery pack for video light system.

I bought this ringlight to use for macro video.
The light is just too weak, providing only about 2 stop more light over natural (weak) light. This is usually not enough for macro.
On the plus side, it is lightweight and versatile thanks to its long connection.
