Product Highlights
  • Zoom Super Wide Angle
  • Two ELD Glass Elements
  • Fast and Silent HSM AF
  • Robust Construction
  • Made in Japan

The Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM Autofocus Zoom is a super-wide angle lens with a relatively bright f/3.5 maximum aperture throughout its zoom range, helping to ensure high image quality. The lens gathers enough light to make it a great choice for indoor shooting as well as landscapes and creative portraiture. This version of the lens is exclusively made to fit the Pentax lens mount. It is not intended for use in "full frame" digital SLR cameras, or for any film-based cameras.

With a wide angle viewing range of 102.4-63.8°, this lens can empower a photographer to produce creative images with exaggerated perspective. Its Super Multi-Layer coating reduces flare and ghosting. The HSM autofocus motor provides quiet, high speed operation. You can also shoot with manual focus.

The 10-20 f/3.5 EX DC HSM incorporates an inner focusing system to eliminate front lens rotation, which enables the lens to use the included petal-type bayonet hood to eliminate extraneous light from striking the front of the optic. Two ELD (Extraordinary Low Dispersion) glass elements and a SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass element provide excellent color fidelity, and 4 aspherical lens elements provide correction for common distortions.

This lens has a minimum focusing distance of 9.4" (24cm) throughout the entire zoom range, and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:6.6.

Note! Vignetting will occur if the lens is used with 35mm SLR cameras or digital cameras with image sensors larger than APS-C size

Comments about Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens for Pentax:

I considered getting the Pentax UW zoom. All ratings, however, placed this above the Pentax. Has proved to be the right choice.

Comments about Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens for Pentax:

The reason I brought this lens is because I need a wide lens for my Pentax K5ii. I shot landscape by this lens and it is great at f8. Talk about the bad side. It is quite heavy, compares to usual Pentax lens. But if you use it with the battery grip? OMG, can't be better. The weight balance just perfect. If you are looking forward to a wide lens foe landscape, I will suggest this one. If you want wider, I will suggest Rokinon 8mm f3.5. Conclude, great lens that you should have.

Comments about Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens for Pentax:

I hesitated at first on choosing this lens over the f/4.5 version or the Sigma 8-16mm. I wanted the extra stop over the 4.5 and I didn't like the idea of not being able to use filters like the 8-16mm. Sure you can buy a cumbersome attachment that allows you to use square filters on the 8-16mm but I wanted a walk-around quick lens that was relatively compact. I shoot a lot of classic cars which I haven't done yet with lens since its winter here in the northeast. The shots I have gotten with this lens look pretty sharp and these were handheld. I normally shoot with a tripod but my initial tests were handheld. I have a Pentax K3 Limited Silver Edition. The lens seems to work quite well with this camera. Focusing is quick, the lens feels well made and solid, and the controls are smooth. The price was great and it was exactly what I was looking for. I have enclosed a couple of photos taken with this lens. I will definitely look at other Sigma lenses for future purchase at B&H.

Comments about Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens for Pentax:

First up, I have a small selection of lenses now and this is definitely my favorite lens at the moment.

The build is excellent. Nice feel to the zoom ring and manual focus is pretty reasonable (for an AF lens). The 82mm thread may seem like a disadvantage but in fact has the advantage that I can use a filter without vignetting.

Optically its very good. The frame center is sharp from f3.5 across the zoom range. My only criticism is that corners can be soft from 10mm - 14mm below f5.6 but acceptably sharp by f8 (even extreme corners). Importantly it does have a usable f3.5 and from 15mm - 20mm it is sharp across the frame from f3.5 (in fact it a much better lens than my Sigma 17-70 in the 17-20mm range).
Bokeh is good but you have to be VERY close to your subject to see it.

Overall I love this lens and it opens up a lot of creative possibilities. I would rate the sharpness 4 stars and everything else are 5 star but can't give it 4.5 so putting 4 stars.

Comments about Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens for Pentax:

I have used both the Sigma 10-20 and the Pentax 10-17. I loved the 10-17 but decided when I had the funds to rebuy that I wanted to spring for the sigma due to the constant aperature and HSM, both are upgrades from the Pentax.
I find the HSM to be slightly slower than the screw drive on the Pentax. Not terrible but noticible. The sigma corrects for distortion, whereas the Pentax does not. This is neither good nor bad, unless you have a preference in this area. I found the Pentax 10-17 to be more of a fun lens where the sigma is practical.
For a workhorse, pick the Sigma, it's silent and has the constant 3.5 plus distortion correction. If you want a smaller fun lens go with the Pentax, the fisheye on the short end is lots of fun, but it's slower and noisier.

This is my 1st ultra-wide angle lens. I have no regrets I selected it, quite the contrary. Although I've only had a short time to put it through its paces, I'm impressed thus far. Some might consider it heavy but it is solid and I appreciate that. This is my 2d lens, and certainly not the last I will invest in for my Pentax bodies.

Comments about Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens for Pentax:

As a somewhat advanced amateur, I appreciate the added scope in focal length that this wide angle, rectalinear lens lends to my 'kit,' which now include this 10mm-20mm, 17mm-70mm, 50mm-200mm, and 300mm. I use a Pentax SLR and the Sigma lenses make a fine and economical contribution.

The constant f/3.5 aperture provides good lower-light (fog for instance) capability with focal flexability for composing a wide landscape scene. I have found the results clear and cridp, with very good contrast that alows flexibility in post processing.

All in all, I like this lens a lot and consider it a staple of my personal lens choices. A good value--not the least expensive wide angle, but a fine value for my Pentax given its constant aperture.

Comments about Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens for Pentax:

The 1st copy I got had malfunctioning AF, but the 2nd is just fine and AF works well. I will use this lens extensively at our local marina to do "boat portraits" and wide scenics-- and also for landscapes and interiors. At the marina, the boats are packed in pretty tightly and it takes an ultra-wide to open it up. This lens is sharp, contrasty and the constant f3.5 aperture is useful for night work. The lens is well built, but on the downside, it is sort of big and heavy-- about the size and weight of a good 24-75 f2.8. It take 82mm filters which are spendy.

Comments about Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM Autofocus Zoom Lens for Pentax:

I shoot a lot at our local boat basin/marina and when on the docks shooting is tough because the boats are packed in pretty tightly. Well, this lens really opens things up and makes individual "boat portraits" not only possible but also exciting-- provides interesting perspective distortion. One has to get used to that and use it as appropriate. It also makes a useful landscape lens when a good foreground can be found. Finally, it really opens up enclosed spaces, i.e. interiors. Curvilinear (barrel) distortionis only slight-moderate. This lens is good sized w/ 82mm filter, and on the heavy side, but balances well on a dslr, and it is well built.

This lens is absolutely great for scenery and landscape. I did a lot of research for a good wide-angle lens and for the price this lens was definitely my favorite. It makes any picture look more artistic, use it with any subject! I almost never take it off my camera.
