Recently took a trip to New York City, had the opportunity to use this lens to get a nice view of the city atop the Empire State Building. Worked beautifully.Pros:- Focus ring has a nice rubbery grip and a smooth but firm rotation to it.- The aperture ring has a confident click to it (as you set this aperture manually with this lens)- The field of view is ridiculous- Crisp shots (when you get the focus right, remember.. it's all manual)Cons:- It's a bit heavy, I'd consider using a strap on your body if you plan to walk around with it. The weight isn't necessarily a 'con', because it's got a solid feel to it, but again, if you're looking to carry this around all day on your body, wear a strap with your camera.- It's really hard to get the sun out of your shot as the field of view is immense, but again, as you'd expect, it's nature of the beast.- Focus is hard to guess, no difference when looking through the viewfinder.Overall, it's worth it. It's[$], lets you expand your creativity. It's a bit tough to get the focus right, but overall, I'd buy again.

I was a long time user of the sigma 15mm for full frame (film) cameras. After making the transition to digital, I opted for the Opteka fisheye (exactly the same as Bower and Vivitar). My expectations were very high for this lens and it fell a bit short. Images are unacceptably soft at 3.5 (wide open) and still a bit soft at 5.6. f/11 looks pretty good, but that's getting awefully slow for me. Also the sigma 15mm has extremely tight depth of field for blurred background type shots. The opteka seems incapable of pulling off the "macro fisheye" shot that the sigma did so well. To be fair, I have not yet tried the sigma 10mm fisheye for digital EOS, so this review is not apples-apples.

Other notes: manual focus and apperature control (fine by me). Would be nice to communicate back the aperature to the camera for display in the viewfinder and also to record the shot settings.

Conclusion: good quality for the price, nice for landscape, not the best choice for artistic photographers.

Fun lens at a terrific price.

Comments about Bower SLY 358C 8mm f/3.5 Fisheye Lens for Canon APS-C EOS Cameras:

The manual focus is difficult to master. However, when mastered, you can take wonderful creative images. The 180 degree view allows pictures to include objects not normally picked up by other lenses. A fun lens at an affordable price.

Comments about Bower SLY 358C 8mm f/3.5 Fisheye Lens for Canon APS-C EOS Cameras:

I use this lens to shoot mainly low light videos indoors. I have used it to take pictures as well, but that's not what I got it for.

I just love how close you can get to the camera and how it keeps everything in frame.

The only negative thing (which doesn't affect my videos) is when taking photos, the plastic around the lens will sometimes get in the way of the flash and leaves a shadow on the image. Like I said I mainly use this for video so it doesn't affect me but I can see how this would bother some people.

One more negative is that the lens is not detected by my t3i so I have to press the button every time I turn on the camera which isn't a big deal but it's completely manual. There's nothing automatic about this lens.

Lens takes sharp photos during the day and with objects not too far. When you try and use this for night photography, it's a hit and miss. I had to spend quite a long time figuring out how to focus on stars so that my photos weren't blurry and even after that, there were still shots with blurry stars.

I have wanted a fish eye lense for a while now, but didn't want to spend the $ on the Canon lense, found this one works great with my Canon DSLR. It is a lot of fun to use. Great pictures and close ups. Still have ot get use to using the fisheye as if you are not careful, your feet will be in the picture. Have taking it to the horse stables, and great pictures of the ring and up close of the horses and other animals. Great for landscape and all around fun lense.

I love this lens. Good value for the money. Since I won't be using a fish eye for much I didn't want to invest a lot of money. I bought this lens for night time sky photos of the milky way, etc. The focus is manual and works best at F8. Per the instructions when you mount the lens set to F3.8 and focus and then change your F stop. Anything above F5 or F8 and the lens may not have enough light to actually focus. Once I realized this the focus was much more consistent. I used it the other night for lightning and it did a great job.

I bought this lens to take on vacation for some interesting/different shots. It did not disappoint. This lens is WIDE and the fisheye effect is there, but not over the top. Despite my concerns with focus scale accuracy per some other reviews, my lens was dead on. I have actually managed to get some bokeh with this lens! I took an image in an elevator - the wife's face was perfectly in focus and the baby down in the stroller was nicely blurred. When I saw the shot on the computer when we got home I was amazed. To get the shot I set the lens for a close focus and f3.5, ISO was 800 I think. I have an add-on focus confirmation chip that I was going to mount to this lens, but I really see no need. This lens also does well in low light/night photos. With my 20d set on 800-1600 ISO and f3.5 you can really go down into the dark with good results. 1/8 sec shutter is fairly safe for slow/non moving subjects with this wide lens. Images will be a bit soft for pixel peepers, but the photos themselves look good.If you want a good deal on a fisheye/wide lens, look no further.

I have a Canon T2i and bought this lens for filmmaking and some photography. The lens is a lot of fun and gives a good clear picture. We are using it for filming scenes in an independent movie where the location is inside of a car and you get a really good perspective and can see all characters in the car with the camera inside of the car. The service from B&H is also great.

Comments about Bower SLY 358C 8mm f/3.5 Fisheye Lens for Canon APS-C EOS Cameras:

I bought this lens for the purpose of creating 360 degree panoramas and virtual tours. I have been doing 360 panoramas for a long time but am new to full 360x180 degree panoramas, so I overlooked some key features that are essential.

Because this lens is aspherical, it does not produce as wide of an angle as a spherical lens, which is essential to taking 360 panoramas easily. This was my mistake, not b&h or the manufacturer, but I thought others might like to know this information.

I also found the image quality to be fuzzy. Difficulty focusing is typical with 8mm fisheye lenses at certain apertures, but with this lens it's worse than usual. It wasn't an issue with focusing as much as just a general fuzziness.

Overall, a good lens for the price, but I'll unfortunately need to switch to the more expensive 8mm Sigma to fit my needs.

This was extremely hard to use, through the viewfinder I was unable to determine if it was properly focused so instead started using the distances marked on the focus ring and ended up with only a couple usable shots from the camera, it is also not compatable with my 5d mark ii (in that the camera does not register the aperture setting) so exposure had to be calculated by me. For someone who does mostly weddings, this proved to be a very poor buy. Although this was cheap, it is virtually worthless to me.

I've always been a huge fan of shooting wide and wanted a new toy to put this action. I wasn't disappointed by the build. Rugged, durable also known as everything you want in a lens especially if you are planning to do some skate or snowboarding videos where boards are constantly flying at your camera.

My only complaints is the focus may be a bit blurry but that problem seems to affect many fisheye users. But nonetheless it knocked off a star for me.

Definitely a great lens for video. I did a few tests at the local skatepark and had a blast once I got going.

I definitely recommend buying if on a budget like myself. Bang for buck makes this a great buy.

Comments about Bower SLY 358C 8mm f/3.5 Fisheye Lens for Canon APS-C EOS Cameras:

I do semi-professional photography, Im an avid traveler and I understand how frustrating it is to try to catch a wider angle, specially in close places, like markets, hallways, etc. So I knew I needed a wide angle lens. What is great about it is the amount of information you can include in a picture, its really wide. What is not so great about a lens like this one is hard to protect the concave glass.

A lens with quality you can actually feel. I own name brand lenses that don't feel as well built as this one does. Photos are sharp. I have no complaints!

Gave this to my husband and it's now his favorite lens. Good images, especially for the price. Recommend if you're looking for a good fisheye lens, without spending the money for a high end lens.

He uses it to video tape his friends skate boarding. He uses it for projects he has to do at school. i love the fact that it was on sale when i went to purchase it for him. The day I bought it we went to the Intrepid and he took a lot of pictures using this lens.

this manual focus lens is a steal! great value for the types of photos it takes. id recommend this lens for real estate agents as it takes great shots of my tiny apartment, or any landscape photography. You can get some really interesting effects with this lens even as a beginner enthusiast, for waaaaay better value than a canon10-22mm or other fisheye lenses. Its a great quality product and I am so happy with my purchase. Thanks B&H!
