Product Highlights
  • Bright Lens
  • Metal Lens Barrel
  • Superior Image Quality

The Voigtlander Nokton 40mm f/1.4 Lens is a high speed aspherical, single coated lens for VM lens mount rangefinder cameras. It is single-coated, which produces lower contrast photos in black and white, and color. This lens is fast...great for shooting in low light situations, with excellent focusing results.

A standard Leica M-mount is used for this lens, making it compatible with the Voigtlander Bessa R-2/3/4 & T cameras, Konica Hexar RF, as well as the popular series of Leica M cameras.

The Nokton lens is unusual in the rangefinder field because of the use of modern aspherical lens element fabrication technology on the rear element. The lens is constructed with two aspherical surfaces and one SD (super-low dispersion) glass element. This maintains the high level of image quality that rangefinder customers have become used to while keeping a highly competitive price point.

The lens is beautifully crafted and is very sharp even at f/1.4. If manual focusing if your thing and you love old school craftsmanship, get this lens.

Comments about Voigtlander Nokton 40mm f/1.4 Lens (Single Coated):

I have owned literally thousands of lenses in my photographic lifetime, and no single optic has broken my heart more than this one. I call it a silk hat on a pig because the image quality is absolutely stunning in every way possible. I have shot all sorts of film, color, black and white and digital on my M8 and M9 and I have never gotten anything but beautiful and stunning images....That is, however, when the lens feels like behaving. For such a beautiful optic, it is built and designed like total garbage. The focus ring is virtually unmanageable, the focus tab is too stumpy and doesn't do it's job properly. So once you're able to finally pull focus with it, I really can't deny it's optical performance. But sadly, I end up leaving it in the camera bag more often than not for it's, what I feel is poor build quality, which, by the way, you would never think it because visually, it looks like it's well built. But once it's game time, this lens has disappointed in more lost shots than I can count. So when you look at the big picture, what good is a lens if you can't trust it when it counts. But again, when I do hit home with it, the results it's given me are superb. The bottom line? For the money, it's worth having.

Comments about Voigtlander Nokton 40mm f/1.4 Lens (Single Coated):

I use this lens with my Olympus Pen E-P1. It is 80mm middle telephoto in micro 4/3. It seemed like refine of Leica Summilux F1.4 in current technology . It is a beautiful compact lens. I think this is one of the best prime combination with micro 4/3 camera. I like to take photo in wide open F1.4 in scenery and portrait. It is an extremely fast lens. It start to become very sharp after F4. It's superior performance when I use low light situation and night shots. I also like soft focus in black and white monotone. There is a multi coated version of this lens but there is no huge difference between two. I definitely recommend person who look for old styles of 50's and 60's.
