The Vivitar 2x 7-Elements Teleconverter for Canon cameras is a precision optical component designed to expand your photographic capabilities. This premium quality 2x teleconverter, effectively doubles the focal length of the lens it's used with and maintains the resolution and contrast of any fine optic. A 7-elements teleconverter will deliver sharper images with more depth compared to teleconverters with fewer elements. The 2x teleconverter extender will multiply the focal length of the existing lens by 2x, and will cut back the amount of light by 2 f/stops. For example, using a 2x teleconverter with a 300mm lens will effectively increase the focal length to 600mm. A lens set to f/2.8 will now be f/5.6.

Comments about Vivitar Series 1 Teleconverter For Canon:
The Vivitar Series 1 Teleconverter worked well with all my lenses except for the one I bought it for. With my Canon 70-200 4L IS, it took awhile for it to communicate with the camera. When I turned the camera on, it would switch to the manual focus mode and stay there until the teleconverter started communicating with the it. Sometimes this process took several minutes. Once it made contact with the camera, the automatic focus worked fine until I turned the camera off.

Comments about Vivitar Series 1 Teleconverter For Canon:
I used this with my Canon EOS 7D and a Tamron 70-300mm macro telephoto lens. The results I can say are not bad, but given that Tamron is already slow in focusing (not an issue to me but if you are a wild-life photographer maybe), adding this piece will slow it down further in case you use the AF function. As for the quality of the image I can't say it is bad, but I'd say it doesn't change the original quality of the lens mounted on it itself. To see some comparison: [@]On left you will see the original shot @300mm, while on the right with this teleconverter (@600mm hypothetically). The blur is because I used manual focus, and my eyes tricked me with what I thought it's sharp. All in all, I can say it is a nice tool to have, and I'm waiting for a chance to use it with birds already.

Comments about Vivitar Series 1 Teleconverter For Canon:
I use this with my canon rebel T1i with EF 70-200mm f4L IS, Canon EF 50mm f1.8, and have tried it on my Sigma DC 17-70mm f2.8-4.0 OS. Works with each of these lenses.
The teleconverter is non-reporting (does not report the 2 stop loss to the camera) so I retain autofocus on all lenses. However due to it being non reporting TTL metering works improperly. I have to under expose the scene by a full stop in order to get a proper exposure.
As with all Teleconverters it does effect image quality and it does not work with EF-S lenses.
Construction is solid with the only down side being the release button. The buttons tension is quite light making it easy to release accidentally if you're not careful.
Over all it has a good price, good build quality, and decent image quality.
This is NOT for someone who demands the best IQ out of each and every picture. But for the casual photographer like me it gets you the extra reach at a fraction of the price while still keeping usable IQ.

Comments about Vivitar Series 1 Teleconverter For Canon:
Although there is no mention of compatibility issues on the website, you should be aware that the Vivitar Teleconverter CAN NOT be attached to EF-S Lenses of Canon EOS Cameras.
There should be a note mentioning this on the website. Unfortunately, I will have to retrurn mine.

Comments about Vivitar Series 1 Teleconverter For Canon:
I use this with a Canon 75mm-300mm lens. It is great at getting that longer shot by doubling the power. I was told that I might loose the auto focus, I did not. But it is best, at times, to use manual focus.
