Product Highlights
  • 7 Elements
  • For All Nikon DSLRs
  • Doubles Focal Length of Existing Lens

The Vivitar 2x 7-Elements Teleconverter for Nikon cameras is a precision optical component designed to expand your photographic capabilities. This premium quality 2x teleconverter, effectively doubles the focal length of the lens it's used with and maintains the resolution and contrast of any fine optic. A 7-elements teleconverter will deliver sharper images with more depth compared to teleconverters with fewer elements. The 2x teleconverter extender will multiply the focal length of the existing lens by 2x, and will cut back the amount of light by 2 f/stops. For example, using a 2x teleconverter with a 300mm lens will effectively increase the focal length to 600mm. A lens set to f/2.8 will now be f/5.6. Autofocus is not always maintained when using a teleconverter especially with slower lenses at apertures above f/4.

Use with NIKKOR lenses that are f/2.8 or faster is recommended. Because use of a 2x teleconverter incurs a 2-stop light-loss, the camera's autofocus system may not function correctly; manual focus would still be available in this situation. This teleconverter will maintain aperture control, manual/auto/program/etc., with all AF-AFS autofocus NIKKOR lenses.

7-elements
Multi-coated Optical Glass with anti-reflection coating
Doubles focal length of lenses
NIKKOR lenses designated as G AFS will autofocus.
NIKKOR lenses designated as G will NOT autofocus.
All other NIKKOR lenses - AF, AF-D, AFS, etc - will autofocus.

I have a nikon D 7000, i have tested this on a nikon 18mm to 200mm lens, and it work's great. if the lense starts to "hunt" because of your subject movement and or your movement [you must realize this is now a very large lens almost a 600mm at maximum zoom counting in the crop factor of the DX} {you have to get used to holding a lense this big so you must practice working with it} if you are working in a low light area set the lens to "m" instead of "m/A" and focus manually. also if hunting occurs that tells you that you need to use a tripod or some other steady means of support. Macro works good also. If there is enough light you can switch to "m/A", the aperture should be always be pre set to F16 for the best quality sharpness. I was very impressed with the sharpness and amazing power this little device give's my images. Warning this is a tool, and a very good tool, you don't want to just use it all the time, that is if you only do telephoto images then of course do so, it is great to have a tool like this and of this quality in your bag. The price is well worth it, compared to the cost of a 600mm lens, and if some day you get a 600mm or larger you can use this tool to boost it to 2x. By the way if you are considering the D 7000 get the 18mm to 200mm lens.
it is a very good choice. note: All A/F and programed auto stuff works just fine as long as there is enough light for the eletronics to work with, the shutter needs to be preset to 640 or higher to help with camera shake and subject movement.
    I LOVE THIS TOOL

Easy to use, attached in a snap. Might be good for wedding or portrait work with relatively short focal length lenses, but not good enough for wildlife. Normally sharp lenses did not seem as sharp when used with the converter. Noticed movement even when
    used with tripod.

Comments about Vivitar Series 1 Teleconverter For All Nikon DSLRs:

Been using it for a year now. Works pretty good for the price especially. Lately I have been using it for astrophotography. I connected it to my T-mount for my telescope and increase my magnification to get even more detail. I have heard that teleconverters don't work for this but this one does. It does take some time for auto focus in lower light but I use manual focus and a tri-pod with this anyway. I bought a 650-1200 mm lens and the photo quality of this is better even though the zoom isn't as high.

Comments about Vivitar Series 1 Teleconverter For All Nikon DSLRs:

This add on to the power of your lenses is best used in manual focus mode and on a tripod. best for pre-focusing on a location, i.e a bird feeder and using a cable release for the shutter. A good investment for those wishing to boost the magnification power of their 200mm or 300mm lenses at minimal cost.

Paired with an AF-S DX Nikkor 18-200mm 3.5-5.6G ED VR II lens, autofocus "hunted" excessively and sometimes failed to resolve altogether. Fit and finish were acceptable but not as smooth as anticipated given my experience with other Vivitar Series 1 products. Returned it for a refund.

As most of the reviews state, forget any autofocus and even with a tripod I found the picture not to be that great of quality.Bottom line, buy the big glass. I have a sigma 150-500, but was hoping this would work out for quick travel trips. It didn't, had to return it to B&H. I really wanted it to work, but it didn't.

It works very well in bright light, but when overcast or indoors you must focus manually as the camera will not auto-focus with the teleconverter on.

I bought this 2X teleconverter ti enhance my macro work without investing in a new lens for the time being. I found the quality of the vivitar to be very well made. I communicates with the camera well, however I am using it with a zoom lens which is not the best of choices. It has limits to what will work automatically, however I can use manual operation and still get the job done. Overall, 2x converters have their limits, however, for my opinion, I think the Vivitar is a good choice for the dollar value.
