Bescor's SA-1 Universal Swivel Shoe Adapter can be attached to any camera's shoe mount for attaching external microphones or lights. It comes with a mini hot shoe adapter that's designed specifically for use with Sony camcorders. The SA-1 also features a 1/4" 20 thread screw and a swivel function with a locking knob.

Easy of use
Cons: You need to be very gentle when taking it out of the hot-shoe. It seems like the plastic part that goes into the hot-shoe is the weakest part on the adapter but as long as you don't rip it off your camera it should hold up just fine. Just be careful that's all.

The plastic shoe mount on the bottom is very low quality. As you tighten the screw, the metal rails of the accessory shoe scrape the cheap plastic construction of this mount, shredding the plastic as you tighten it. I currently have it permanently attached to a bracket while a new, better adapter comes in the mail. If I detach the current adapter from the bracket, the process of loosening it will literally cause it to fall apart. Spend the extra few dollars to buy something better.

I purchased this product from B&H Photo Video to attach a HVR-MRC-1 Memory Recording Unit on to my Sony DCR-VX2100 camcorder. Tbe SA-1 allows me to record video shot by the VX2100 on CF memory cards instead of Mini-DV videotape. The SA-1 is a great

Was using to hold a J-Cube with two wireless receivers and a LED light. The Adaptor appears to be what I needed but the cheap plastic construction ruined its potential. Unfortunately, the piece that mounts to the camera's shoe is made of plastic rather than metal. As a result, the tightener slips on the threads and as a result, the post slips out of shoe.
Replacing the plastic mount with metal would probably solve this problem but it's not a job of a do-it-yourselfer.

I have a canon hv400 and wanted to mount an Azden wireless mic receiver. The base mount which attaches to Canon mini shoe is too small. It will slide no matter how tight you adjust it. Might work with other brands but not Canon.

-i was trying to create a way to pan my microphone on top of my DSLR without moving the camera. it moves, but the groves in the ball head don't make the movement smooth
-if you are using it to mount lights or give a little more height to your stand still microphone I RECCEMOND, but if your trying to create a microphone panning mechanism i would go with something else.

As you tighten the screw, the metal rails of the accessory shoe scrape the cheap plastic construction of this mount, shredding the plastic as you tighten it.
