I use this with the Tascam DR-100. Xlr cables fit through the bottom port very well. Also, you can reach the mic gain, phantom, limiter and speaker switches through the back velcro pannel (normally to reach the battery for the Marantz recorder).
Good for rain, but I would still keep it under my coat.
Use a 90 degree mini adapter to plug your headphones into the side.

I appreciate that this came free with the purchase of my PMD 661, but after a few uses I'll be getting the Porta Brace soon.

The kit fits very loosely in the bag, and I constantly feel the kit will fall out of it. I'll admit that I'm clumsy, so using this bag is sort of a nervous experience for me.

I have experiences with the porta brace bags and perhaps my judgment of this product is affected by that. It's no porta brace, and honestly, it's not trying to be.

For the price point and utility, it is a good product. I appreciate the design for the XLR cable to pass through the bottom.

I use this product to protect my Marantz PMD661 in the field when recordind bird songs. It's rugged and keeps safe my recorder when tramping through the brush. The only thing I would change is adding a cut out area (perhaps with a protective flap) for the headphone jack, but otherwise I am completely happy with this case.

          Comments about Marantz Carry Case:

This case is ideal for the PMD661 Marantz pro digital audio recorder. The velcro flaps provide easy access to the battery, memory card, on/off, and jack areas without having to remove the recorder. I especially like the 1/4-inch headphone jack on the PMD661 as it is much more solid than the earlier 660's mini which was prone to breaking. This case gives me great access to that jack and the control pots for the L and R mic inputs while the recording unit is worn sling style. The large record and stop buttons are totally accessible by pressing through the see-through plastic and the VU levels can be easily seen while setting up the recording. I looked at more expensive options and I'm glad I went with this one as it is built specifically for the Marantz PMD661. The gathering "skirt" at the bottom helps to protect the XLR input jacks from salt spray or a light rain shower. This is a great feature as I always use external mics on any recorder for ENG. I prefer coiled cords and this skirt does a good job of keeping either airborne moisture or dust away from the XLR jack area. Adjusting the mic power switch is a bit tricky through the skirt so when I (rarely) need to change the position on the slide, I pull the recorder half-way out of the case so I can see what I'm selecting with 100 percent certainty. There is no pouch for extra batteries but that's fine with me as I carry spares in my auxilary mic/camera bag. I have paired the Marantz using this case with my Canon T4i for video as it allows me to throughput the mic audio to the camera using an RCA to XLR Y-cord, then an XLR to XLR to a field mixer attached to the camera. This set up gives me pro preamps for DSLR video while I also get double redundancy to the Marantz recorder's SD card (and the ability to attenuate one mic input). I mount the camera, field mixer and mics on a steady cam rig I made from a 20-inch bike wheel rim. It would be nice if a more detailed series of photos would be supplied by B&H to show how the recorder fits inside the case. Snug means no noise from the rigging.

              Comments about Marantz Carry Case:

I did not order this case to begin with; I first tried a bigger multimedia hip bag that was designed to accommodate this recorder. I found that case to be too large—and that it didn't hold the recorder securely enough—so I decided to order this one, expecting I'd be sending it back.

Marantz should supply more product photos of this case! In the one angle available, you can't see any of the details of the case, or how sharp it looks. (Looks a little like a squid washed up on the beach, in the currently posted photo. :) In addition to the main top flap, the case has a velcro flap on either side, for access to the controls and connectors. And it's also got a velcro flap on the BACK, so you can replace the batteries without pulling the unit out of the case. That 'pouch' on the bottom that protects the XLR connectors doesn't have to hang down like that if you don't want it to; because I'm recording dual mono with it, I've got a side-turned 90° XLR that's in line with the body of the '661, and I run the cable up along the side, rather than down.

Two things I wish Marantz had done differently: One, if you're not using the shoulder strap, you've still got two large plastic strap attachments hanging off your case. The type of "double gate keeper" that Think Tank uses on their gear could get around that (and I may yet break the plastic connectors off and just leave the nylon loops). And two, the belt loop on the back is only wide enough to accommodate a 2 1/4" belt—I'll have to do some kind of a mod to attach it to my gear belt.

Pleasantly surprised; 3 1/2 stars, rounded up.

Does a pretty good job protecting my PMD661 from the elements, though the buttons are a little clunky to press through the clear plastic. It's still a third of the price of Portabrace's similar case.

I only wish it had some kind of storage pouch for memory cards or something, but oh well.

Great case for the PMD 661. Clear plastic allows you to press buttons on the front panel while the recorder is closed in the case. Should protect from mist or very light rain. Good quality straps hold cables together and strong velcro sides allow side panels to be accessed. Strap is wider and more comfortable than the included strap from Marantz. Also has a belt loop too.

Well made protective case that fits the unit. It provides access to all of the required "bits" so easy to use in the field.
