As college student in my mid-20s, I had to make my money count so I chose this lens (kit) and a Canon 7D. This combo remains the only camera and lens that I own and will be able to own for a couple years yet, and I love, love, love its versatility. I have used many kinds of of photo and video equipment in my 5 years of military service and this lens/camera combo remains among the most fun, efficient, and flexible.I have had it for 2 years now and in that time I have used it for parties, portraits, macro, a short art film, landscapes, low-light, and it's been on my shoulder in Botswana, Japan, and everywhere in between to boot. I have to use it for everything and it hasn't come close to failing me yet.As far as complaints about vignetting, soft focus, etc.- I guess I can see it, maybe. There have been a few times I wished it was a bit sharper, but I have realized with time that most of these are going to be user errors, not lens errors. This lens will shoot as well as you do, period. Also, this lens combined with creativity and competent editing can match or exceed anything people can claim with gear 4x as expensive. I frequently get better results than people with more expensive and technically superior equipment.Frankly, unless you have been shooting professionally for 10+ years and have some kind of critical acclaim or success to show for it, this lens is going to keep up with you, and it's unbeatable for travel. I'll get other lenses someday, but I'm never selling this one.

Ive got my 18-135 as a kit with a t3i last year. For a beginner upgrading from a smartphone or a p&s, this lens will yield amazing results. BUT, when you upgrade your selection to L-glass, you can be dissapointed with the quality of this lens. I always fear that my af will break because I forget to turn the af to manual. the build quality feels plasticy. Af is loud but it is actually fast. IS is silent and great. Image quality does suffer from CA and color fringing. Not the sharpest lens ever made. I bought a used 70-200 2.8 IS (ver 1) and it just worlds better. the variable aperture is a pain, and don't expect to get good results in low light. HOWEVER, as I said, this is a very good lens for beginners and for genreal walk-around.

EF-S 18-135mm STM has much longer reach. I do not think I will ever need anything longer than 135mm.

I wanted an all purpose lens, one I could use for a wide variety of picture taking without having to change lenses. I am retired and do quite a bit of traveling and take a lot of scenic and landscape pictures. There are many times I don't want to take a camera bag with additional lenses and don't want to be frequently changing lenses. This lens fills the bill perfectly for that. It is just about perfect for its intended use.

am a beginning shooter on this camera, but feel that this lens is kind of limited in its range, especially on the close up end. Repeatedly find myself bumping up the limits. But if you are within that range takes really good pictures as far as I can tell. focus is sharp, etc...

My most used lens until I can afford a faster (<f/2.8) zoom. Purposely chose this lens over the EF-S 18-55 for its extra reach. But it is a better lens all around. I also have the EF-S 18-200 which is equally good but heavier. Until I get a faster lens such as the EF-S 17-55 or the EF 24-70, this will be my go-to lens.

Comments about Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens:

As a wedding photographer, I have played with a few lenses over the last 5 years. This is one of the best lenses (for the money) I'm a tought critic. Of course if you spend 3 times the amount, a fixed apature lens is the way to go. I think for any amature and for most professionals, this lens is unbeatable.
This lens is perfect as a second camera lens durimg events. I can leave it on my t3i all day for many types of shots and it really looks amazing with my 5d markIII. I am Impressed with how wide this lens can capture images and in bright light, the zoom is pretty amazing. Indoors , without multiple flashes, it can be pretty dark. I only use manual focus, so I can not comment on auto focus speed.

Comments about Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens:

I'm giving this lens 5 stars. It's not perfect but the image quality is really good and the price was right. I have a 7D and a 5D and I ordered the Canon 24-105mm so I could move up to an L lens. When I got the 24-105mm I tested it out on both Canon bodies. To my surprise the 18-135mm stood up quite well to the 24-105mm on the 7D and showed only marginal improvement but not enough to justify the cost difference in the two lenses. However, when comparing the 24-105 on the 5D against the 18-135mm on the 7D the 5D combo excelled. If you are familiar with the specs on the two cameras then you know why.

Moral of the story: If you have a 7D and you are lusting after a 24-105mm, get the 18-135mm.

Comments about Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens:

I got this lens with my 60D and it has served me well in the three months that I have owned it. The 18-135 range is very convenient, and the stabilization is helpful when shooting video. The optical quality is decent. Most problems (CA, distortion) can be corrected easily in photoshop/lightroom. Of course, the small aperture means that this is not a great indoor lens, and recently I have been itching to get a fast prime... but for a starter lens, the 18-135 is a good choice.

Comments about Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens:

Comments about Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens:

I sold my 24-105 to have the sensor replaced in my 7D. I bought the 18-135mm with IS to replace it. I use my 7D for shooting commercial video and was concerned with how the 18-135 would perform. After using it for second camera on a wedding, I am very pleased with the performance and quality of the captured video. The footage was sharp, color was excellent and the focus was faster than anticipated. It performed very well as the evening light dropped during the last part of the wedding. I anticipate photos taken with this lens will leave me just as pleased.

I purchased the 18 to 135 mil lens as it gave a closer picture than the standard lens that comes with a 600EOS Canon camera. I find that having the ability to get up closer to subjects that are further away with a lens that I now use as standard as a better option.
