I was using a pair of RCA noise-canceling headphones before I got Koss QZ99. I got the RCA from a famous online shopping site for less than [$], you can't beat that!! And, the noise-canceling worked noticeably. Problem with that pair is the location of battery compartment, construction, and look. The location of battery compartment makes it hard to either hang it on the side or behind you. The cords connecting the battery compartment made me worried, and had tried several solutions trying to secure them, so, they wouldn't break off. The headphones itself make squeaking noises when moved, and the look just old. Sound quality!?? Horrible!Weekly commute on a bus between NYC and Maryland is tiresome. Listening to fellow passengers' phone conversations and mechanical noises make it worse. All I wanted is peace of mind for that 4 to 5 hour bus ride.I didn't do much of digging before I bought QZ99. I just crossed my fingers and paid for them. Amazingly, the noise reduction part works very well, and sound quality is OK. The problem I have is the heftiness of this pair. You really need a strong neck to support them. My head can't move too much when I am on the bus with this pair on, 'cause of the bulkiness. Suggestion: take them off for 5 to 10 minutes every hour. This pair may not be a comfortable choice, but, for the sake of blocking out surrounding noises, I will bear with them.

I got the qz99 to replace a pair of Pelter 3m noise canceling phones that died after a year. I never used the noise canceling aspect of these phones,so when shopping I figured why pay $100 more for NC phones when all I need is a good isolation phones
I use these when I mow acreage some times up to 6 hrs at a strech on the tractor it's around 70-75db this is vary wearing and dangerous for my hearing so Good isolation is essential .
I called Koss to ask for a recommendation and the qz99 is what they said would work Well just barely I gess they are between 6-10 db louder than the 3m phones

They seem relatively well built But if you are looking for serious sound isolation
For induristial use Do Not Get these. My ears are still ringing

Comments about Koss QZ99 Around-Ear Noise Isolating Headphones:

These headphones were purchased for use in recording narration for e-learning. They are fine for that purpose. However, they have very little bass which makes music sound "tinny".

The QZ99's are used during drums practice. Bolck out most of the residual noise from the drums allowing in just enough to know your are matching the music and keeping time.

I've owned these headphones for over two years. They work excellent with noise rejection. Great for editing and shooting while recording audio. However, they're unbelievably tight and uncomfortable on the ears. I've finally sold my pair and will be purchasing a new, different set.

good sturdy construction. i use them for video field recording and am very happy with the sound quality and background noise reduction. the multi size jack is helpful. they have some weight if you plan to wear them for hours. but they need to be for the noise reduction. and most any full sized headphone will strain the ears in time.

We had problems in live performances determining if what we were hearing what was from the recorder or the live sound coming through headphone ear muffs. These do a good job isolating external sound.

The ear cousions Are filled with some kind of oily fluid. One day as I was working as the video man at a race track, I felt somethingf running down my neck and thought it was just sweat....only it had an oily feel to it. Didn't have time to check it out until I got home. And that is when I found a pinhole leak...didn't find the leak until I took the ear cousion off.

Soundwise, it sounds ok, nothing to write about. It seems to block a lot of mids and highs, but does very little with the lows, such as kicks and bass amp.great cans to protect your hearing !

I can't believe for $, you get something that feels very sturdy. Everything feels well made, high quality. Thick, comfortable. The volume knob is certainly very useful !It blocks a lot of mid-highs, but does little to low-end, like drum kicks, or deep heavy bass amp. I'm glad I bought this, incredibly priced !sound quality wise, i'd rate it 5/10. I use this for recording, where the musicians can listen to guide track properly without bleed or external noise

Comments about Koss QZ99 Around-Ear Noise Isolating Headphones:

I work in a busy newsroom and find the headphones useful for blocking out extraneous noise. Besides listening to music, I also use them when I'm transcribing taped interviews. The stereo-mono switch comes in especially handy at these times. The only drawback is that they fit snugly enough to be a little uncomfortable, but that'a a minor drawback considering how useful they are.

These headphones feel very solid and sound fine.
I wish they weren't so tight ("head in a nutcracker" describes the fit for someone with a size 7 5/8 hat, at least). I also wish the pads were removable for washing.

Comments about Koss QZ99 Around-Ear Noise Isolating Headphones:

I bought these headphones mainly so that I could listen to my MP3 player while using power tools. They are great for that purpose. The passive "hearing protection" function is up to the task of attenuating chain saw noises etc. (This is not an active noise reduction headphone.) The sound quality is good. The mono/stereo switch allows use of mono sources too (such as AM radio, communications equipment, etc.) which would otherwise be audible in only one ear. The cable is a bit long. To avoid getting the cable caught in power tools it is important to coil it up, wrap it with a rubber band, or some other means. Highly recommended for good sound quality in a noisy environment.

I attended to use this product to hear a little bit better when editing my independent projects for film but from how amazing it isolates the noise, i just started listening to music with it and it sounds so much better when then it just coming out of my laptop. This was definitely worth the purchase but the only down side too it is that it gets uncomfortable after awhile and might put some pressure around your ear but i find taking it off every 10 minutes helps.

I was looking for something to use with my laptop and iTunes while my family was watching TV, or while sitting alone. Sturdy and very quiet, reasonable sound. Adjustable to fit my head and ears and comfortable, but are a bit heavy - but that goes along with sturdy. I just got them so I cannot comment on longevity of service yet. Inexpensive enough to make it a reasonable buy. I am satisfied. Only complaint is that they are a bit heavy, but not really uncomfortable.

I bought these to monitor dialoge while recording video. The headphones deliver on what they promised – passive noise cancelling. They also seemed to have more features than their competitors. Though the warranty is a limited warranty, it is nice to see a company that has such confidence in its products to include a lifetime warranty. You can clearly tell what's coming through the wires verses what (if anything at all) is coming through the earpads.
