Logitech has reliably created some of the best computer peripherals (mice, headsets, webcams etc.).This particular model was a bit hard - I had to order it online as most stores only carry the R400 model.CAUTION: Green laser light is far brighter than red and are excellent for a variety of light conditions - but be careful and never point it in the direction of someone's eyes.I chose the R800 because of the range and the green laser that is optimized for use on LCD presentation screens.I am delighted at how easy it is to use (simple controls, plug and play) and it is small - fits nicely in my hand. I have yet to use the countdown timer (vibrates at 5, 2 and 0 minutes to warn you that your time is up), but it will come in really handy.I also own another presenter tool that combines some of these functions with a remote mouse that allows you to switch to a web browser (full remote mouse controls) and while it is useful, it gets confusing to use and doesn't have the walking range, special green laser light, timer etc. I[...]Last benefit - with one button you can make the screen go black at any point during your PowerPoint presentation - great control.

I've had two recent encounters with this remote. First, as a speaker, I found it a little less than intuitive to use. The arrangement of the forward and back buttons makes it very easy to hit the wrong one. And you have to try it to discover that right is forward and left is back. I know it's easy to work out, but I think you want something better when it's handed to a speaker for the first time when they have a hundred other things to worry about.
My second encounter was as director of a large TEDx event, where it was being handed over in quick succession to a dozen presenters. Two of them managed to inadvertently switch it off because the power switch is right where your (probably nervous!) thumb sits.
This is a really poor piece of design and I'd urge anyone who's using these in a professional context to disable the power switch.
So: it's okay. It does work. It's moderately priced. And it's fine for low-pressure internal communications. But it has ergonomic failings that, to me, make it unsuitable for professional use. In those situations I'd spend the extra for a pro unit.
I hope this helps someone else avoid the minor disasters we ended up with.

I had to replace my old presenter and thought I would upgrade. I am so glad I did. It is ready to go right out of the box and there is so intuitive to use. I am a HS teacher and it was put to use the day I got it. It feels great in your hand and works great.

Works out of the box, except for on the Mac you have to make an addition in the Keyboard Preferences to add F5 as Play Slideshow. The PLAY button on the remote sends an F5 signal. Laser is very bright. I have yet to see how long the batteries will last.

We use the presenter for powerpoint slides in our church services. The range is great in that we don't have to "aim" the presenter towards the USB base.
The buttons are very responsive and you could easily jump a slide.

Comments about Logitech Professional Presenter R800:
This is my first presenter tool but I have to say it was a great decision to buy this version (vs. the lower grade one). I opted for this version because of the timer and green vs. red laser pointer. Both worked very well during a recent presentation and I wasn't concerned with the remote's reliability or functionality. Great buy.

Comments about Logitech Professional Presenter R800:
Used in lecture halls both large and small. The green laser is satisfactory, the buttons are intuitive and the timer is a nice feature. The vibration warning that it gives is quite soft, but can be felt if paying attention. Also has a button to start the PowerPoint and one to go to black screen in addition to the forward and back buttons. I don't know about the battery life as I've only used it a few times. Receiver docks nicely into control unit.

Comments about Logitech Professional Presenter R800:
I just LOVE this Professional Presenter R800 by Logitech. The most important part is that it works! I purchased another presenter by Interlink that was defective. I did not know of the problem until I was ready to start my presentation. I had used the identical Interlink presenter model in the past with no problem and had tested this new purchase prior to going to the venue. But for some reason the dongle seemed to lock up my laptop. Even the right and left arrow keys would not work to advance or reverse slides. Fortunately there was a gentleman who had his own Logitech Professional Presenter R800 with him and urged me to try it. Wow! When I removed the interlink dongle my laptop started working again and when I inserted the Logitec dongle there was no hardware recognition/install drivers/device is ready to use; etc. This Professional Presenter R800 by Logitech is truly plug and play without the OS needing to do anything! If I had not had this Logitec presenter for my lecture I would have been "up a crick, with out a paddle". I am a roamer and without the Professional Presenter R800 I would have been tied to my laptop; and I hate that; it makes interaction with your audience very stilted.
The Logitec presenter is very well designed. All of the buttons seem to be in the right place. I really like the green laser pointer. I am color blind and red is really hard for me to see. The class seems to like the green as well and the green is brighter than most red lasers. I read a review on the Logitec R800 presenter that said the on/off button is in the wrong place and is easy to turn the presenter off by accident. I disagree. You would have to be a complete greenhorn and so nervous a fidgeter that did not know your subject, or so terrified to be in front of people that you should not be presenting anyway. Logitec has done a wonderful job with this product. The timer is great. I tend to forget time and talk too long. To have a the presenter buzz in your hand at 5, 2 and 0 min. is a great reminder.
I returned the Interlink presenter to B & H and bought 2 of the Professional Presenters R800 by Logitech, one for our church and one for myself.
I think Logitec should be very proud of their design.

As a church, we use pp slides to give announcements and to have the words visible for songs. The R800 makes using pp during worship easy. The controls are easy to understand and are fairly intuitive. Also, the range on the R800 makes it easy for anyone to use no matter where in the sanctuary they happen to be.
