Even more remarkable, the latest high performance, one-inch wide print head now incorporates an Auto-sharing Black Ink technology, allowing both Photo and Matte Black ink to be installed simultaneously.
Capable of handling virtually any type of cut-sheet media up to 17" wide, the Epson Stylus Pro 3880 incorporates a high-capacity paper feeder that accommodates sizes ranging from 4 x 6" up to 17 x 22". I knew this was a good printer before I purchased it, I didn't just how good it was until I made a dozen prints. Of those twelve prints, ten were BW, mainly on Velvet Fine Art paper (8x10's) and two on Luster. I also printed a couple color images and was just blown away by the detail and gradation of the tones in the BWs as well as the color tonality. The printer came very well packaged. Many many small pieces of tape held everything together. A good paper manual and the quick start guide made for an easy installation. The driver software loaded without any problems as did the paper ICC profiles. Everything worked right out of the box. Prior to making a print I performed a monitor calibration. Aside from some minor differences in dark tones, the printed image did a great job matching the screen image. One minor annoyance, the rear manual paper feed is a bit finicky when it comes to loading paper, sometimes taking two or three times before it is fed correctly. Not enough of a problem to decrease my star rating. Maybe things may change with time, but my experience right out of the box is nothing but positive and I would highly recommend this printer. The price is high, but keep in mind that you get fully charged 80mL cartridges with the printer. This is arguably the best printer currently on the market. Can't wait to print some 17x22s.

This an excellent printer, but my experience with two printers; a 3800 and a 3880 is they have a short life span. I purchased a 3800 (new) and paid for the extra 3yr extended warranty. It was a $[$] printer so I thought it was worth the extra for the extended warranty. After 3yrs and 8 months the printer started dumping 1 inch long by 1/8 in wide black ink blobs, and the Photo Black cart on the LCD read 90% full when the cart was actually empty. Epson support said it needed a new printer head. The cost was the same price a new printer. Because it was now past the extended warranty they would do nothing else for me. (Shouldn't a pro printer at $[$] last more than 3.75 years of moderate use?), I guess not. I then purchased a new 3880, but did not get the extended warranty. After 2 yrs and 2 months, this 3880 started doing the exact same problems as the 3800: dumping 1 inch by 1/8 inch wide black ink blobs and the LCD showed the Photo Black cart at 90% full, when it actually was empty. I spoke with Epson support as well as next person up the line. Epson response: "Because it is out of warranty we will do nothing for you". Despite the fact that this is the 2nd 38xx series printer that had the same problems. Note that Epson will only warranty this printer for a maximum of 3 years - if you purchase the extended warranty, costing several hundred dollars - not cheap. You can not extend the warranty past the 3 years. Given that short time frame you can see that Epson does not expect the 3880 (3800) to last much more than 3 years. If it does, you were lucky. If not, buy a new one or... change to another brand. Given the fact that I had this same problem on two different professional printers - 3800 & 3880. Knowing that these are not $100 disposable printers, but $[$] pro printers; and as a professional customer that had already given Epson several thousand dollars for their printers, and thousands more buying their ink; I had expected Epson Professional division to provide better support and work with me to fix the problems. I had been told that Epson customer support really sucks. Now I must agree with that statement. If you can risk dumping $1200-$1500 every 2 - 3 years on an Epson Pro printer, then you may be happy with the 3880. If you can't, then look at anther brand. I've heard that Canon makes a good pro printer.

Comments about Epson Stylus Pro 3880 Large-Format Inkjet Printer:
I create photographic works of art for framing and wanted a larger format printer that could produce vibrant colors faithfully on a variety of materials. This printer does not disappoint. There's a steep learning curve because it can do so much. I decided to learn by doing to see what I got on different settings, making notes as I went. Printing for me is an art too - and using this printer to get what you want is as technical as a darkroom in many ways. Love it.

I was very skeptical about buying a high end imk jet printer after reading a lot of reviews. The pros at B&H didn t over sell, stated what they thought to be true and acurate and they did not disappoint...

This is a great printer for the price. I decided on this size since it consumes less ink then the next step down. It works great and prints beautiful images.
It is important to note that the first printer I received didn't work correctly. Epson sent another new printer to me overnight. The process was fairly easy with Epson.

I had the epson 3800 for over 5 years The quality prints still there the new 3880
Makes great difference. No clogging in compare the colors are much vivid other than that you wont notice much of difference. I think this is the last upgrade because
They have on of the best printers in the market means couldn't be any better than this.

I kept trying to make it harder, it is almost as easy as plug and play. Oh,there is room for customizing, but you can do that after cranking out a few lovely prints on the default settings. And the ink isn't disappearing into the void like some other(even Epson's) printers. Try Pictorico HG White Film using the Epson Premium Glossy profile - wow!

So far I have used this product for 8.5x11 and 13x19 prints. The photos are stunning, print relatively quickly, and set up and use are very easy. I plan to also use the printer for graphic design comps as well. Shipping was speedy and it was packed well so it arrived in perfect condition. It is a large piece of equipment, but with such a wide range of print sizes, it's to be expected. High quality, rich prints. I definitely recommend this printer.

Comments about Epson Stylus Pro 3880 Large-Format Inkjet Printer:
I had been using an Epson 1400 for several years and had been looking to upgrade for better color and archival inks. I am an artist and am not printing photographs but images that I create on my computer in Photoshop CS6. The Stylus Pro 3880 takes some getting used to. I've been testing of papers and profiles to get what I want. It is sensitive to the loading of paper, so I'm learning to be very careful, precise and gentle. So far, I'm very pleased with the results and am happy to have this printer. It is also encouraging me to work larger, which is great.

....So far, so good. This is a heavy printer and the only difficult thing about setup was the awkwardness of moving it into position. Depending on your situation you will want help with it. Setup was easy and I was able to print in short order. I've only done a few prints but they are beautiful. Color matched my screen on first try. I'm calibrated so they should be.

The printer set up easily, synched up immediately with the computer and the first print was perfect. I am doing a gallery showing tonight and made the prints for it on the 3880 (I still have my 2880). I used both Photoshop manages printer and Epson manages printer to make the prints and, at least until I get my monitor better calibrated, Epson management produced images closer to what I wanted. The printer makes me prouder than ever of my work.

So far about 40 prints in 17x22 sheet paper size and 16x24 custom size hand cut from roll paper with a razor knife and carpenter's square. Results are beautifully detailed with vivid color. Thirty of the prints will appear in an exhibit at our university gallery this summer, and I am not at all embarrassed to show prints of this quality. No problems with ink flow or paper tracking so far. I considered a larger printer but weight and size of the 24" or larger printers looked to squeeze me out of my small studio space. I was also taken aback by user comments on ink flow problems of the larger printers, while the 3880 (and my earlier Epson R3000) seem to get high user marks for few problems.

Comments about Epson Stylus Pro 3880 Large-Format Inkjet Printer:
Beautiful prints, the few that I was able to print before the printer died. It won't turn on properly, I keep getting Service Call Error 150. Now because it is more than 30 days old, Epson will NOT send me a factory new printer, only a refurbished model. Like it or lump it. If you buy one, use it as much as possible early so if it dies you have only 30 days from Epson to get a factory new printer; after that it is refurbished at best.
I was going to sell the refurbished printer and upgrade to the 4900 but was advised not to, too many problems with the Epson 4900. I was steered to the 7900, way more money but I just want a dependable machine. The 7900 is huge, over 200 pounds!
This is supposedly the best color printer I ever bought and it is a bitter disappointment. Epson is very tough to deal with, they stubbornly refuse to replace with a new printer no matter how light use I have had since Dec 25, I didn't even set it up until January 2013. Started having problems in late March, finally gave up the ghost and I called on April 30. Too late, refurbished printer or I can hang it on my nose.
Thanks for nothing Epson. I am seriously considering Canon.

Comments about Epson Stylus Pro 3880 Large-Format Inkjet Printer:
I've recently just purchased this printer and it's an updated version of an 8 year old 4800 Stylus Pro Large Format Epson printer.
Main reason I needed this printer is for mock-ups and proofs. I needed the large-format so I can print on full page spreads on 17x22" paper.
The printing quality is great and the printing time is also cut in half. There are two loading trays for paper on this printer. There's a single sheet fed on the far back and then another multi-page sheet insert right in front of that. So both loading trays are in the back. It's nice to have the extra single sheet tray for wanting to print on a different paper format, thicker .lb paper or different texture, without removing all the other paper. I guess it helps with organization of all your paper in the long run since you're not swapping paper in and out.
Another neat feature on this that I did not have with my old Epson is the ability to set paper preferences right on the printer itself. You can store paper types in the memory of the printer, so if you're going to be doing a single sheet gloss paper, you can set the printer on that preset and then switch the preset back to presentation matte paper.
Set up is quite easy. I just downloaded the latest drivers from Epsons website and it was ready to go.
The build construction on it feels a little cheeper than my older model. The front paper holder is pretty flimsy but I guess it's only holding paper....
The only thing I have no dialed in yet is the best paper to print on this printer with. Some of the paper I'm printing on ends up looking a little washed out but obviously it's user error right now as I have no had time to figure out all the settings and paper. I was assuming the old paper I was using for my old epson printer would still pair nice with this printer but it does an OK job as of now.

The printer makes great prints and is simple to use. I love the results. The cost of replacement ink cartridges is the only negative about this printer, so if you are considering buying one, check this cost first if you do a lot of printing. That is why I gave it 4 stars.

Happy with product.. I have never seen so much packing tape on a printer in my life! I found more tape after using it for a week! Really? I only wish there was a good way to test papers... They send a few sheets of photo paper... That's it... Then you have to spend hundreds of dollars to determine what paper you want to use.... At least send small paper thickness and texture samples... Epson used to give these away at shows... I am buying box after box... Huge waste of money..

Comments about Epson Stylus Pro 3880 Large-Format Inkjet Printer:
I purchased the R3880 because I had such good results on the R1900. So far the printing on the R3880 has been exceptional. I wanted to print larger size canvas. Big problems with the feeding in the rear with 17 x 22 exhibition canvas matte. I spent hours trying to get the paper to feed without a paper error and did not succeed. When talking with support, I did not get any good info except that the printer is not really made to print on that canvas. They pretty much said good luck. The techs tip did finally work and it had nothing to do with the adjustments. I had to put my hands flat against the guide and push really hard and not let up. Totally differently than the video that is show on how to load canvas paper. The print was fantastic in black and white. 5 stars for quality but one star for feeding canvas in the rear.
