The MXO2 LE with MAX (Laptop) from Matrox is designed to provide all the features of an I/O card in a sturdy, portable breakout box. It features both professional audio and video connectivity. The device can easily be moved among laptops in your facility or in the field as the need arises. This model is designed for use with either PC or Mac laptops.
This model features Matrox MAX, a technology that implements faster than real-time H.264 encoding for resolutions ranging from iPod to HD. It uses a dedicated hardware processor to accelerate the creation of H.264 files for Blu-ray, the web, and mobile devices. By using specialized hardware acceleration, jobs are finished more quickly and system resources are liberated for other tasks. This technology allows direct export to higher-quality H.264 Blu-ray compliant files from Compressor.
This solution offers broadcast-quality audio & video input and output. Calibration controls include blue-only. You also benefit from a wide variety of HD and SD workflows with Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro thanks to Matrox MXO2 LE's 10-bit hardware up/down/cross scaling engine and support for a wide variety of file-based formats and industry-standard codecs.
Note! A different host bus adapter is required for use with a desktop unit and may be purchased separately or as a part of a different MXO2 desktop solution.
Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 support for Mac OSX to be available in early November 2010.

Comments about Matrox MXO2 LE with MAX (Laptop):
This has solved a whole bunch of processing problems. This item was the link for a major project that initially seemed difficult.

Comments about Matrox MXO2 LE with MAX (Laptop):
* Can't use it's own compression hardware to compress it's own output
* Has connectors on at least one too many sides
* Doesn't have a light bulb to tell you it's on on the front. It's inside
* Has vents on the side so you can't put anything next to it.
* connectors between it and the expresscard/thunderbolt/pciecard adapter do not positively forbid being plugged in upside. This gets much easier having been done once :(
* supplied software is less than spectacular

Comments about Matrox MXO2 LE with MAX (Laptop):
The Matrox MX02 LE w/max has more than one use. I have hooked up to Sat trucks on site and played VNR's directly from the FCP7 and Avid MC6 timeline. No matter what your timeline is set to, you can set the MX 02 LE to convert to the format the Sat truck asks for. Color grading works greats as well. Once the feed to the truck has taken place, clients want the clip online. With max, you can do this quickly and with high quality. I use it with my Macbook Pro in the field, and MacPro in the studio. Great all around device.

Comments about Matrox MXO2 LE with MAX (Laptop):
Works great in FCS3, but after FCPX came out I was planning on transitioning to Adobe PPro, but integration is lackluster and 23.98 is psf only, After Effects does not display the proper PAR for DVCPro 1080 on ext monitor. But if using in FCS3 you couldn't really ask for anything more

Comments about Matrox MXO2 LE with MAX (Laptop):
This device is still new to me but I will mainly use the MXO2 LE for Output to an HDTV for some color grading. I would at some point like to do an accuracy test between that set-up and an HD broadcast monitor, but I believe if properly calibrated it can be very accurate. I also use this device for up-down-cross conversions, since I mostly shoot in 1080p at 23.976fps. It can also be a great tool for on set monitoring and capturing. One con would be the lack of necessary audio controls for the audio out to speakers.

Comments about Matrox MXO2 LE with MAX (Laptop):
So far, so good. Every thing that I need it for at the moment, it does! Portable solution for video capture. Waiting for realtime h.264 capture and support for cs5 on Mac. I use it with Final Cut Studio Pro and Dt Video Labs Playback Pro in small show environments.
